Heading out from Moose Creek USFS

Okay now I realize something is wrong as I can't pick up any speed climbing out and finally check my flaps. Derp. This plane is so simple to fly I don't really bother with check lists

Early in the day the sun barely clears the mountains - and so do we to ensure that we can keep them in sight and not get disoriented in cloud since neither of our planes have artificial horizon instruments

Looks like conditions are getting better

Or not. Climb! Climb! Unfortunately the stock Savage Cub that Andrew was flying didn't have the performance to get over this ridge and he crashed into it

Circling in the clearer air waiting for Andrew to spawn back into the world

Continuing onward as Andrew works to catch up. I'm over the Bitterroot Range now and dropping back down towards the valley into Montana

Not too shabby, ended up only a few nm south of where I wanted to come down out of the mountain range, with the river to my left and reservoir to my right I was able to locate my position on the charts

Still following the highway, but sticking to the western side of the valley to avoid the precip and stay clear of potential icing conditions

Hrmmm.... not going to be able to avoid all the precip...

Finding a tunnel through the clouds towards more clear air

Passing the town of Stevensville. Poor Andrew continues to have issues - his pitot tube froze and so he didn't realize he was close to overspeeding and a wind gust caused his aircraft to sustain critical structural damage

Looking back down the valley. Goodbye precip and good riddance

Airport control tower visible as I realize I've flown too close and encroached the Delta airspace without permission. Oh well

Over the Nine Pipe National Wildlife Refuge. Well, not directly over, as that would be poor airmanship to fly so low over a NWR

Bigfork on the northern shore of Flathead Lake

Downwind in the pattern for Glacier Park Int'l

Couldn't get the smaller runway so we just landed together on the big one

Taxiing in at Glacier Park Int'l

Ended up landing behind Andrew again

Moose Creek USFS was the final back country strip. Next stop - Glacier National Park!

Diving over the field so Andrew can see where it is

Came back around for an actual landing approach

Had to circle around two times to let Andrew catch up after I passed him and forgot to throttle back

Snow has melted at Big Creek. Andrew is now on XBox and has swapped to the XCub

Now turned south to follow Monumental Creek

Catching sight of our first strip. This is going to be fun!

went around and am now coming in on final. Watch out for that....

Followed Andrew in on final to see how he did. Made it down okay

Came back around from the other end but you couldn't approach low enough and still see the runway, ended up way off to the left - that's the end of it just out my right window

Second attempt was better but still ended up getting blown into the trees by the crosswind

Then I flew into the trees taking off. Dammit!

Restarted in the air and just went straight for the next strip

Managed to get my wing back down without crashing. First try yey. Now watching Andrew approach from the opposite end

Andrew made it on his second attempt. We are now back up in the air circling to get up over the mountains

Topping the ridge to see the expanse of mountains ahead. Off in the distance is The Pinnacles

Mentioned how moody the clouds look off in the distance but Andrew said he didn't have any so I said go set your weather preset to Scattered (live weather was being wonky). This kicked him out of the flight session. D'oh!

Clouds ahead, time to dip back down into the valleys

Brrrrr chill - icing on the wings as I wait for my friend Andrew to work through some technical issues

Looking down on Flying B Ranch as I setup for my diving turn to base and final
