Sophie inhaled deeply through her nose, held her breath and then exhaled, her nostrils flaring as she did so. She repeated her breathing a few times and then started jumping on pointe, holding her arms ramrod straight and stiff by her side, yet allowing her wrists to be loose and her hands to flap about like tiny wings. The excitement around her in the wings was palpable as members of the corps de ballet gathered about, giggling, gasping, pointing at her whilst looking at her imposing figure and costume with admiration, smiling shyly at her.
It was not so very long ago that Sophie had been a member of this troupe that made up the backbone of the performance. She had danced her way through as a member of the swan flock countless times in Swan Lake and as a snowflake in the Nutcracker. She had worked her way up over the years, entering as an Élève – an apprentice – before becoming a member of the Quadrille where she danced in line with all the others, supporting the principal dancers. When the ballet staged La Bayadère, Sophie was invited to be one of the three Coryphées – fitrst artists – to lead the he corps de ballet through the intricate, repeated patterns of Les Ombres, and she excelled herself. After playing various faeries in Sleeping Beauty, and friends to the leads in Giselle and Don Quixote over time, she proved herself to move up to a Grand Sujet and play Pas de Trois in Swan Lake. Now after all this time, she was no longer playing a Lead Sylph in Les Sylphides, or performing the Peasant Pas de Deux in Giselle. She was a Premier Danseur, and about to make her debut as Cinderella.
And then her moment came and Sophie found herself on stage. As she danced beneath the theatre’s spotlight, she felt the happiness, the exhilaration, the jubilation she always did as she performed with grace on pointe. Although her performance was highly orchestrated, dancing gave Sophie a sense of freedom she never felt at any other time in her life. She needed no wings to fly, only her dainty feet to lift her up and spin her again, and again as again with precision and perfection. Her heart soared high above her, beating with pride. When she finished her first solo as she puffed ragged breaths in and out, all she could hear was the thud of her heartbeats pulsating in her ears. Then it began: the clapping of a pair of hands, two, ten, a hundred, several hundred, a crescendo of applause lifting her spirits higher. It was at that moment, as blinded by the brightness of the spotlight, she made a deep curtsey to her unseen audience beyond the harsh whiteness, Sophie knew she was where she belonged. She was a success! She was home!
The other day I received a purchase from Etsy of an envelope full of beautifully laser cut ballerinas made of crisp white paper. I was particularly enamoured by this lovely one and her exuberant pose. It was a cloudy and overcast day, but I still managed to create a spotlight for this beauty against a black background.
This image I would like to dedicate to my dear Flickr friend FinouCat who loves dancing in all its forms. My wish for her is that she rises on pointe like ma petite danseuse.

I couldn't resist buying these roses today, they have a lovely fragrance as well as looking pretty.
#74 - 100 x challenge - Lensbaby
I took this one last month and haven't used it before as I'm not sure it really works or tells a story...I just wanted to use my new French (vintage) binoculars. However, having made good headway with my 100, I feel I am now falling behind so that's a good enough reason to add this one.

I tried to get a photo of my dog today but he wasn't obliging. He is very old and I don't like to mess him about too much so it's another flat lay.

Day 200/365!!! TWO HUNDRED!!!
Definitely Dreaming - Six
Six daisies on a little wooden tray.
Not quite the image I had in mind but it will do.
I had every intention of posting earlier and catching up but things never go quite to plan do they?
Today has been the hottest day of our heatwave...I think the hottest day on record in the UK. It's been 39°C here, some places did top the 40° mark.

These flowers were fallen from the hydrangea after the strong wind.

Fish eat plastic in the ocean because it smells like food!
Tests on anchovies show that when plastic is mixed with salt water and begins to disintegrate it releases an odour which is similar to krill.
The enticing smell sets of foraging and feeding behaviour in fish, causing them to eat the debris, believing it is food.

I ran out of time and light today and ended up using flash. I much prefer to use natural light.

Day 313/365:
I was a bit stumped for ideas today so just grabbed a few photography related bits for a flat lay. Pretty basic but another day done and dusted.
I have good dishes I never use. I take them out here or there for photography and then put them away in their zippered up protective bags and place them back in my cupboard. I feel bad that I never use them but after today I think I might change that. The greatest joy is the present moment so celebrate and use the good dishes!

As some of you know, I like to get the most of my props. So I used my little munchkin pumpkin again as well as the acer leaves along with other autumnal treasures.
Practicing flat lays this morning with some family treasures and yard sale finds. My husband is totally indulgent and found all of the rusty scissors and knives at a yard sale and bought them last summer as a surprise. I started the set up to fit the knolling category but felt it was just too stiff so I loosened it up, wish I had changed a bit more but I can do it next time. Always a critic but I think it's good to give your work a critical eye and learn for the next time.

WIT: I have a lot of white kitchen stuff, so just arranged it in a flatlay style still life. Not much in post, just tweaked the white a little, for a slightly warmer white. There are an unlimited number of white shades, something I found out when I had my kitchen remodelled. Who knew??
A little more flat lay.... Dried my oranges using my Ninja Dehydrator... Great for decorations and photography.
Still not sure if I'm getting the hang of this 'flat lay' but I'm having lots of creative fun trying...
Have a fabulous Thursday...

Day 155/365:
Oh dear, it's those flowers again. I forgot I'd left them set up from yesterday and surprisingly they weren't all shrivelled so I just faffed with the set up, adding a heart and a bit of lace. It looked okay on the camera but when I finally had time to look on the computer I wasn't happy. More faffing in NiKs with the double exposure preset and it was this or nothing...hence the title.

The tulips again. A busy afternoon looking after our gorgeous baby granddaughter so a rush job before the light went and it starts to rain. I think these tulips are going to feature a lot, even when they start to fade...especially when they start to fade! ;)

"Art is the flower. Life is the green leaf." - Charles Rennie Mackintosh (Scottish architect, designer, water colourist and artist).
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 8th of November is "creative with leaves", where a simple picture of leaves is not enough for the theme: it has to be creative. Luckily for me I am short of neither leaves, nor creativity, and as soon as I saw the theme, I knew that this was the image I wanted to create.
This leaf flower is made up of different leaves from specimens in my garden. The leaves that make up the outer circle of “petals” come from my Evergreen Alder which grows in my front garden and provides shade to the bay windows at the front of the house. The leaves that make up the inner circle of “petals” comes from a Murraya which grows in my rear garden and is a survivor that has survived fallen trees on it twice. The flower centre is a Nasturtium leaf, the likes of which find their way into my salads, as I like their hot and fresh taste, and the stem is a tendril from the old Wisteria that grows the entire length of one side of my properly in a magnificent hedge. Once I had taken the photograph, I then searched for a quote to accompany it. I was delighted to find that the one above which I chose comes from one of my favourite architects and designers, Scotsman Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It made me smile. I hope that you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

Smile on Saturday - Red on white background
The little hearts are from my craft stash and the large one hangs in my bathroom. I do have quite a lot of hearts dotted around my house.
My back is improving slowly, once again, but I am continuing with the iPhone, which has proved invaluable, until I feel able to pick up the big camera again.

I had hoped to get one more photo of these tulips before they dropped their petals but as I moved them they fell apart. Well, I wasn't going to let that get the better of me. Not sure I'll get another photo out of them but never say never. They were on their last legs when I bought them and I've got two pics from them so not complaining.
