Day 29/365:

We've just arrived home from a week in Dorset with friends. Our 'January Jolly' had been postponed from last year so it was really nice to get away for a break.

I picked these bits of wood up on our walk along the beach at Kimmeridge Bay yesterday (my friends thought I was mad...you'd think they'd know me by now).

I bought the three larger starfish from a shop in Lulworth Cove. The other starfish and stars were already in my props stash and the little letters are from my craft stash. I added a texture overlay...an image I took of a swimming pool when we were on holiday in Menorca a few years ago.

I hope to start catching up with viewing and comments a little later

Day 348/365:

Another day, another flat lay. Really running out of ideas for an easy shot especially at this busy time of year.

I checked out The Indian Cooking Course cookbook from the library images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/5169uuCD2AL._SX4... because of the image of the front cover. I decided to use it as inspiration to create my chili layout. It's the perfect sort of day to use the slow cooker and get things done while dinner simmers away.

Any critiques are always welcome and appreciated. I think my silverware needed to be duller so it didn't pick up the light so much.

Well, the weekend is shaping up to be icy, windy and maybe a chance of snow. So maybe these fellas will stay home, as neither is weather sealed, and the Olympus Em1 will take centre stage (arthritic joints permitting).

Shot with the latter with 7-14mm Zuiko attached.

It is raining and windy today. I got soaked walking my dog this morning which led me to needing to warm up and get cozy once I got back home. It won't last long as we are heading out again later to visit with my father in law and have supper with him. He sold his house over a year ago and is living in an apartment attached to a long term care home. He has settled in well and has a PSW check in on him twice a day. He also gets his hot supper delivered to him daily during the week but on the weekends his kids come and visit with him and bring him supper. I am lucky that he isn't picky and has a good appetite and always enjoys everything that I make him. I also make sure I bring a dessert which the other kids don't do which is too bad since he likes it so much. He is turning 84 years young and has the biggest sweet tooth. He is a funny guy too - every time he is eating the dessert he always says to me "Mmmm, it's sweet - just like you!" :D

Thanks for your visit. I hope everyone is having a great day!

Day 200/365!!! TWO HUNDRED!!!

Definitely Dreaming - Six

Six daisies on a little wooden tray.

Not quite the image I had in mind but it will do.

I had every intention of posting earlier and catching up but things never go quite to plan do they?

Today has been the hottest day of our heatwave...I think the hottest day on record in the UK. It's been 39°C here, some places did top the 40° mark.

I have good dishes I never use. I take them out here or there for photography and then put them away in their zippered up protective bags and place them back in my cupboard. I feel bad that I never use them but after today I think I might change that. The greatest joy is the present moment so celebrate and use the good dishes!

Crazy Tuesday theme: Tableware

Thanks for your visit! Happy Crazy Tuesday.

I picked these dried flowers up at a craft show recently. I thought they'd be perfect for a flat lay. I do love a bit of pink.

I was getting withdrawal symptoms as I haven't picked my camera up for over a week. I found this beautiful tea cup and saucer today and just had to incorporate it into a photo. this doesn't actually show its true beauty but I had to act quickly as the light was fading. I will have to try to set something up to show it off better another day.

As some of you know, I like to get the most of my props. So I used my little munchkin pumpkin again as well as the acer leaves along with other autumnal treasures.

I couldn't resist buying these roses today, they have a lovely fragrance as well as looking pretty.

86/365: I had this idea for a while. At the start of the 365 I made a list of possible photo ideas. It took a while to set it up how I wanted it and I'm still not sure I'm totally happy with it...always room for improvement! Now to actually make the cake...I wonder what tomorrow's photo will be...I guess it depends if there is any left! ;)

KNOPEN

Fish eat plastic in the ocean because it smells like food!

Tests on anchovies show that when plastic is mixed with salt water and begins to disintegrate it releases an odour which is similar to krill.

The enticing smell sets of foraging and feeding behaviour in fish, causing them to eat the debris, believing it is food.

WIT: I have a lot of white kitchen stuff, so just arranged it in a flatlay style still life. Not much in post, just tweaked the white a little, for a slightly warmer white. There are an unlimited number of white shades, something I found out when I had my kitchen remodelled. Who knew??

14/30: April 2020: A month in 30 pictures

I tried to get a photo of my dog today but he wasn't obliging. He is very old and I don't like to mess him about too much so it's another flat lay.

Debbie ~ KissThePixel 2021

Thought I'd try another introductory flat lay today as the weather is still pretty miserable.

I grew up in the countryside and have always been interested in nature and gardening.

Although you can't see them from this angle, there are shoots appearing on the bulbs in the bowl.

The only problem is I haven't a clue what they are as I didn't label them.

Still it will be a nice surprise when they bloom.

6/31: October 2019: A month in 31 pictures

Another attempt at knolling with this eclectic mix as I couldn't think what else to take a pic of today. It's a bit early in the month to be stuck for ideas.

12/30: April 2020: A month in 30 pictures

My heart wasn't in this today. I took a few photos I wasn't happy with before I came up with this one. I do love lavender, it's so calming...probably what we all need right now. This is from last year when I went lavender picking at Hitchin Lavender. I had intended to make lavender bags but didn't get round to it.

The tulips again. A busy afternoon looking after our gorgeous baby granddaughter so a rush job before the light went and it starts to rain. I think these tulips are going to feature a lot, even when they start to fade...especially when they start to fade! ;)

I ran out of time and light today and ended up using flash. I much prefer to use natural light.

Day 155/365:

Oh dear, it's those flowers again. I forgot I'd left them set up from yesterday and surprisingly they weren't all shrivelled so I just faffed with the set up, adding a heart and a bit of lace. It looked okay on the camera but when I finally had time to look on the computer I wasn't happy. More faffing in NiKs with the double exposure preset and it was this or nothing...hence the title.

80/100: 100 x challenge - Flowers

100 Flowers 2020

The last few flowers from my delivery a couple of weeks ago.

Sophie inhaled deeply through her nose, held her breath and then exhaled, her nostrils flaring as she did so. She repeated her breathing a few times and then started jumping on pointe, holding her arms ramrod straight and stiff by her side, yet allowing her wrists to be loose and her hands to flap about like tiny wings. The excitement around her in the wings was palpable as members of the corps de ballet gathered about, giggling, gasping, pointing at her whilst looking at her imposing figure and costume with admiration, smiling shyly at her.

It was not so very long ago that Sophie had been a member of this troupe that made up the backbone of the performance. She had danced her way through as a member of the swan flock countless times in Swan Lake and as a snowflake in the Nutcracker. She had worked her way up over the years, entering as an Élève – an apprentice – before becoming a member of the Quadrille where she danced in line with all the others, supporting the principal dancers. When the ballet staged La Bayadère, Sophie was invited to be one of the three Coryphées – fitrst artists – to lead the he corps de ballet through the intricate, repeated patterns of Les Ombres, and she excelled herself. After playing various faeries in Sleeping Beauty, and friends to the leads in Giselle and Don Quixote over time, she proved herself to move up to a Grand Sujet and play Pas de Trois in Swan Lake. Now after all this time, she was no longer playing a Lead Sylph in Les Sylphides, or performing the Peasant Pas de Deux in Giselle. She was a Premier Danseur, and about to make her debut as Cinderella.

And then her moment came and Sophie found herself on stage. As she danced beneath the theatre’s spotlight, she felt the happiness, the exhilaration, the jubilation she always did as she performed with grace on pointe. Although her performance was highly orchestrated, dancing gave Sophie a sense of freedom she never felt at any other time in her life. She needed no wings to fly, only her dainty feet to lift her up and spin her again, and again as again with precision and perfection. Her heart soared high above her, beating with pride. When she finished her first solo as she puffed ragged breaths in and out, all she could hear was the thud of her heartbeats pulsating in her ears. Then it began: the clapping of a pair of hands, two, ten, a hundred, several hundred, a crescendo of applause lifting her spirits higher. It was at that moment, as blinded by the brightness of the spotlight, she made a deep curtsey to her unseen audience beyond the harsh whiteness, Sophie knew she was where she belonged. She was a success! She was home!

The other day I received a purchase from Etsy of an envelope full of beautifully laser cut ballerinas made of crisp white paper. I was particularly enamoured by this lovely one and her exuberant pose. It was a cloudy and overcast day, but I still managed to create a spotlight for this beauty against a black background.

This image I would like to dedicate to my dear Flickr friend FinouCat who loves dancing in all its forms. My wish for her is that she rises on pointe like ma petite danseuse.

Day 313/365:

I was a bit stumped for ideas today so just grabbed a few photography related bits for a flat lay. Pretty basic but another day done and dusted.

These flowers arrived on my birthday yesterday and I just couldn't wait to take a photo of them. The peonies are blossoming before my eyes and I look forward to taking a macro of the perfect pale pink layers.

I recently bought the heart to put in my garden but I am sure it will feature in many more photos.

Practicing flat lays this morning with some family treasures and yard sale finds. My husband is totally indulgent and found all of the rusty scissors and knives at a yard sale and bought them last summer as a surprise. I started the set up to fit the knolling category but felt it was just too stiff so I loosened it up, wish I had changed a bit more but I can do it next time. Always a critic but I think it's good to give your work a critical eye and learn for the next time.
