#78 in my 100 x challenge - Monochrome

Another flatlay today as I couldn't think of anything else.

I am a day late welcoming in the new month. I may be the only person to think this, but I thought February flew by and here are already into March.

We aren't done with winter yet and yesterday March came in like a lion with white out conditions from the wind and snow and with that came more highway closures. Here's hoping that the month will be good to us with Spring-like weather and goes out like a lamb. According to the Farmers' Almanac, the weather folklore stems from ancestral beliefs in balance, meaning if the weather at the start of March was bad (roaring, like a roaring lion), the month should end with good weather (gentle, like a lamb).

Smile on Saturday - What's in a name

Rather late in getting this taken and posted. We had a request for a little person to come and play at Nanny and Pops' house (garden) what could be better than to hang out with a two year old? I've achieved my steps goal 😂

I decided on August as it is the first of August today but it is also a First name. The following information is from WikiPedia:

August is both a given name and surname developed from the Latin, Augustus. Derived from the Latin word augere, meaning "to increase," Augustus had the meaning "esteemed" or "venerable" and was a title given to Roman emperors.

I have included a poppy and a couple of poppy seed head decorations as Gladiolus and Poppies are the birth flowers for the month of August. My gladioli haven't come up this year so I have used a poppy again...I think I would be pushing my luck if I used this for my 100 Flower challenges!

😄 HaPpY CrAzY Tuesday 😄

Since I had so many strawberries from a recent trip to a berry patch, deciding what to do with them took a little thinking. I made some strawberry jam and froze some for smoothies but baking something with them is also something I wanted to do. I have made a strawberry pie only once or twice before and I thought that I'd give it another go. I sure hope it tastes good!

33/365: Are you fed up with tea pics yet? I'm a bit like a dog with a bone when I get an idea in my head...may as well make the most of it :) Originally I just thought about photographing the cups but that seemed a bit boring so I decided to add different teas, then the tealeaves and spoon and finally came the sugar lumps. I don't take sugar in my tea but I've acquired some sugar lumps as props.

Not sure if non Brits will get the title but I made myself laugh! ;)

Edit: It seems not many people get the title...it's from the very English expression 'more tea vicar?" which apparently was said to cover any faux pas or embarrassing situation. I guess it doesn't seem so funny when trying to explain it. I do have a rather strange sense of humour!

BDCC monthly challenge - New ~ New book for the new year.

Well, it's a new to me book. An Ebay bargain. A few years ago I did an introductory course in modern calligraphy and decided that this year I would take it up again so thought this book might help with the practise. I don't know where i am going to find the time but it seemed like a good idea and if nothing else it has served as a photo prop ;)

A flat lay of memories from my now deceased older generations. A white lace tablecloth and brooch from my grandmother H, my Aunty B who died just before Christmas some years ago and who folded parachutes during WWII, her brother my Uncle E, and a cup of tea beloved by my mother with her fancy cup. Candles and potpourri to complete the memories.

The rainy season arrived this week in Portland. Not much landscape photography for four months. Between showers today on a walk, I collected some autumn leaves and berries and shot this flat lay.

362/365: Apologies for the same old, same old but I just can't get my head round anything else at the moment...and I do love anything Christmassy.

As I approach the end of the 365 I'm not sure whether I feel relieved or sad. A mixture of both I guess. I will miss it so much but will be relieved at not having to come up with ideas every day.

Anything goes for 2021 - Handmade with love

A couple of my handmade cards and a handmade and hand written tag, all made with love of course. My creative mojo had disappeared but recently I have been a bit more inspired so have enjoyed making cards rather than it being a chore...and the April challenge is making me pick my camera up every day and think about setting up an image.

Thanks to these dead roses (good job I keep things like this) and my iPhone, I'm still in the game.

I used the stage light in the portrait setting, quick simple composition that involved no difficult manoeuvres.

24/31: October 2018: A month in 31 pictures

I'm kind of getting hooked on this 'shades of' theme. Sorry if it's getting boring but all is fair in a 365, and they do take a while to set up...there is a lot of faffery involved. I know the spoons aren't purple but I thought they added a bit of interest and they are tied with a purple ribbon.

Cotton string colored with food dye and coiled on a black tabletop. Under 3 inches.

Some more Fern, a few Pine Cones and a Christmas Bauble.

326/365: Inspired by the red snowflake in my new Christmas mug, I decided to put a few red things together to see how it would work...having tried and failed with red before. Each year I add to my collection of Christmas mugs. You may well see the outside of this one in another 365 shot as I really love it. I bought the tiny heart dish from Granville Market, Vancouver while visiting there with Flickr friend Charlotte...using it brought back lovely memories.

These are the red tulips I posted on Day 36 (February 5th) and even though I have some newer tulips I decided to photograph these at least one more time.

We are celebrating a long weekend here and we are getting ready to head off to visit with my parents and also my brother who is visiting from out of town. It is quite snowy and not the nicest for going out or travelling anywhere but at least we aren't needing to drive very far. I like winter and snow but I am kind of glad that February is a short month.

I thought I'd try a flat lay with some flowers and hearts and added a texture. I don't need much of anything else in life...hmmm, except maybe chocolate?...oh yes...definitely chocolate! :)

Another rainy Spring day here. I am grateful it is mild with just rain and fog because just a little further north the folks are experiencing freezing rain and power outages. The freezing rain has been so bad that trees are breaking and coming down. Mother Nature isn't always kind.
