Since I had so many strawberries from a recent trip to a berry patch, deciding what to do with them took a little thinking. I made some strawberry jam and froze some for smoothies but baking something with them is also something I wanted to do. I have made a strawberry pie only once or twice before and I thought that I'd give it another go. I sure hope it tastes good!

Another great brocante-find: tapestry wool. I will use these wonderful colors in all sort of projects; winding, weaving, knotting, knitting or crochet. I have so many nice ideas.

A flat lay of memories from my now deceased older generations. A white lace tablecloth and brooch from my grandmother H, my Aunty B who died just before Christmas some years ago and who folded parachutes during WWII, her brother my Uncle E, and a cup of tea beloved by my mother with her fancy cup. Candles and potpourri to complete the memories.

326/365: Inspired by the red snowflake in my new Christmas mug, I decided to put a few red things together to see how it would work...having tried and failed with red before. Each year I add to my collection of Christmas mugs. You may well see the outside of this one in another 365 shot as I really love it. I bought the tiny heart dish from Granville Market, Vancouver while visiting there with Flickr friend Charlotte...using it brought back lovely memories.

Over easy?

Devilled?

How about chocolate eggs? 😉

Or maybe all of the above?

I like them any way...

These were scrambled into omelettes for tonight's supper. Eggs are not just for breakfast at my house. Sometimes we have so many eggs that I like to use them up by having omelettes for supper. I will usually cook up some homestyle potatoes to go along with them and fry some bacon. Yum!

The idea for this Christmas inspired flat lay came to mind as I was emptying the dishwasher - haha! I like doing flat lay photography and Christmas is my most favourite season for photo inspiration. I am letting the creativity flow when I can.

These are the red tulips I posted on Day 36 (February 5th) and even though I have some newer tulips I decided to photograph these at least one more time.

We are celebrating a long weekend here and we are getting ready to head off to visit with my parents and also my brother who is visiting from out of town. It is quite snowy and not the nicest for going out or travelling anywhere but at least we aren't needing to drive very far. I like winter and snow but I am kind of glad that February is a short month.

20/30 - April 2018: A month in 30 pictures

Last weekend we were at the beach and the weather wasn't great, this weekend we can't go and the weather is lovely...that's life but it gave me inspiration for the photo. The starfish are ornaments, the letters from my craft stash.

Although it is officially Spring, it certainly doesn't feel like it when you are waking up to snow and a cold, blustery wind. Not nice, Mother Nature, not nice at all! :(

I saw this Facebook post which I thought was funny AND accurate...

"Spring is literally that friend who says they are 'on the way' but hasn't even left the house yet." 😂

Things I don't wear, although I love them dearly.

These necklaces need to be worn by tall graceful women and I am certainly neither of these.

The wooden one I bought myself (for some reason I don't know now), the green one was a present from a departing friend and the white and black one was made for me by a women I briefly worked with. She was Maasai and I felt so honoured that she gave me this wonderful necklace. She said it was her hobby to make these, being so far away from home.

Another rainy Spring day here. I am grateful it is mild with just rain and fog because just a little further north the folks are experiencing freezing rain and power outages. The freezing rain has been so bad that trees are breaking and coming down. Mother Nature isn't always kind.

I was watching Pam meticulously creating this desert for an upcoming party and felt it fit the “Flat-lay” theme…so here it is. Photographed on a black felt background.

Evidence of a probable cat and dove encounter. A pair of doves were in the habit of stealing the cat's food from a table outside. Apparently one of them did not sufficiently scout out the area for hazards before landing. I saw no dead bird, but there is only one dove hanging out in the nearby tree where there used to be two, so I suspect the bird did not survive.

Just a quick flat lay image I put together after I got home from work. I have so many other commitments to do which leaves me not much time for Flickr. I hope to visit your images soon, friends and thanks very much for your visit! 💕

Definitely Dreaming - Week 23: Writing

Things should start to calm down here now...maybe. It's been a manic month. My sister was staying with us for a couple of weeks. While she was here I had a very big birthday so there were family celebrations. Then we went to Norfolk for just over a week. The internet is dreadful there. So all in all I haven't been on Flickr much other than to post my photos. Now I'm home I will try to stop by and leave a comment or two.

While away I managed to pick up a few props. There is a lovely little vintage shop that I always try to visit and pick up a thing or two. This time there were several things I just couldn't resist. Some of them are in this photo: The ink bottle and box, lace doily, magnifying glass (I know I already have one but this one is different). Authentic ration book and the pen nibs. Imagine my excitement finding all those treasures...and more!

The admission tickets are from a garden we visited, I caught my husband about to throw them away, he now realises the error of his ways ;)

I'm so excited for the boards I've used for my surface. Over the summer my neighbors replaced their fence and let me have a section of the aged and weathered boards. When my husband and I cleaned up the yard a couple of weeks ago he cut them down for me, yay! Still practicing food, I want this to feel a bit looser but haven't been able to master the effortless look so I keep trying. Fun day planned, enjoy your weekend.

198/365: My friend's son bought me these gladioli for taking a parcel in for him. I certainly wasn't expecting such a generous gesture.

In American Victorian-era advertising, children were popular on trade cards because children were often the ones who sought out and traded these cards. Merchants would even have children hand out cards on sidewalks to other children to ensure they were brought home to parents. As child welfare movements grew in America, images of happy, healthy children provided a "halo effect" for products—even dangerous ones. For instance, cards for Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup featured serene babies to mask the fact that the product contained harmful ingredients like morphine! Cards often depicted children in affluent, leisurely settings. For young girls in more restrictive environments, these cards served as a symbol of the "attractive consumerist activities" available in the new industrial era. "Sympathetic imagery" of children in difficult circumstances was used to sell medicine, as consumers were more likely to buy a remedy if they believed it could help fix widespread disease among children.

Last year, I was shopping in an antiques and curios shop (surprise surprise) when I came across two boxes full of beautifully lithographed Victorian era business cards, the majority from America, and most business long lost to time over the last 150 or more years. The box had a handwritten sign on it saying that the cards were $5.00 each, reduced to $3.00 if I bought five or more. I asked to see the boxes and went through them.

As I was going through them, the lady behind the counter told me that they were all the collection of a woman who used to have a stall in the antique shop (which is a collective). Sadly, but not unexpectedly, the former owner of this collection of cards died of cancer and, having no children of her own, asked her family (who had no interest in them) to sell off her collections in her stall at the antique shop at reasonable prices.

I was so impressed by the quality of the cards, and touched by the story of their former collector owner, that I ended up buying eighty of the cards. I have taken several trips back since then and bought a great many more. At least this way I have held at least a portion of her collection, which she had so carefully curated, together. I have also bought more from elsewhere to enhance and grow my collection.
