These roses were in a bouquet that I received today, from my sister as a thank you gift for having her to stay. Obviously they had to appear in my daily shot.

I am really trying very hard to catch up with commenting, stuff keeps getting in the way but I will catch up asap.

Thank you everyone for your visits, faves, and kind comments

I went on a brush lettering workshop this morning. It was great fun and really interesting but so much harder to grasp than I expected. This is a first attempt with lots of scope for improvement. I can see lots of mistakes but thought it would do as a photo prop. I will continue to practise and hopefully improve.

Today we went to a brocante, I found some lovely toys and lots of yarn.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Thank you so much for your continued friendship and support.

Cheers!

Michelle :)

Thank you in advance for your views, comments, and faves. They are much appreciated!

As recommended by some lovely Flickr friends, this was one of my birthday presents...a book by American poet Mary Oliver. The book title is Devotions (hence the photo title) I added the little bird's egg shell to tie in with the book cover photo of a little bird being spoon fed.

I haven't been using my camera lately...no time and no inspiration but I decided it was about time I picked it up.

With such long absences between posts I will never be able to catch up so may have to just try to comment on your most recent images.

Just a flat lay for today with some of our muscari (grape hyacinth) flowers. 💜

Thanks again for your visit! I hope you had a fantastic day. x

The main difference is that a moss is a simple, living plant, while a lichen is a partnership between fungi and algae. Mosses have actual tiny stems and green leaflets, whereas lichens lack these entirely and usually look flat, crusty, or shrub-like

Smile on Saturday - What's in a name

Rather late in getting this taken and posted. We had a request for a little person to come and play at Nanny and Pops' house (garden) what could be better than to hang out with a two year old? I've achieved my steps goal 😂

I decided on August as it is the first of August today but it is also a First name. The following information is from WikiPedia:

August is both a given name and surname developed from the Latin, Augustus. Derived from the Latin word augere, meaning "to increase," Augustus had the meaning "esteemed" or "venerable" and was a title given to Roman emperors.

I have included a poppy and a couple of poppy seed head decorations as Gladiolus and Poppies are the birth flowers for the month of August. My gladioli haven't come up this year so I have used a poppy again...I think I would be pushing my luck if I used this for my 100 Flower challenges!

More practise with my brushstroke lettering.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

I am a day late welcoming in the new month. I may be the only person to think this, but I thought February flew by and here are already into March.

We aren't done with winter yet and yesterday March came in like a lion with white out conditions from the wind and snow and with that came more highway closures. Here's hoping that the month will be good to us with Spring-like weather and goes out like a lamb. According to the Farmers' Almanac, the weather folklore stems from ancestral beliefs in balance, meaning if the weather at the start of March was bad (roaring, like a roaring lion), the month should end with good weather (gentle, like a lamb).

Thanks for your visit. Happy Sunday everyone!

It was my birthday in September, and a very dear friend who enjoys photography as much as I do, and knows that I collect beautiful and vintage pieces, gave me a wonderful selection of antique ribbons, buttons, buckles, lace and other fine notions.

Amongst the treasures I was given were some beautifully delicate laser cut butterflies made of thin bleached paper, and affixed to one of my gifts was a dainty butterfly clip with transparent pink and purple fabric wings. Yesterday I decided to put them all together in a flat lay on a black backing board and photograph them. I think they make for quite a striking minimalist image. I hope that you like it too.

362/365: Apologies for the same old, same old but I just can't get my head round anything else at the moment...and I do love anything Christmassy.

As I approach the end of the 365 I'm not sure whether I feel relieved or sad. A mixture of both I guess. I will miss it so much but will be relieved at not having to come up with ideas every day.

Smile on Saturday

Autumn flat lay with ginkgo and wild rose leaves.

The rainy season arrived this week in Portland. Not much landscape photography for four months. Between showers today on a walk, I collected some autumn leaves and berries and shot this flat lay.

…it’s an old shot, I just thought I’d give it some extra exposure (dreadful pun intended)

Well you knew I'd use these pumpkins again, didn't you? I thought it was time Stitch (my little mouse) put in an appearance again too...along with some similarly toned stuff.

Compositionally Challenged Week 28 - Hands

I chalked myself up using black and blue chalk. I don't suggest it, lol! Of course there's lots of trial and error so I had to soap up, wash off, and reapply a few times. This is the closest I got to my vision and decided it was good enough. : )

326/365: Inspired by the red snowflake in my new Christmas mug, I decided to put a few red things together to see how it would work...having tried and failed with red before. Each year I add to my collection of Christmas mugs. You may well see the outside of this one in another 365 shot as I really love it. I bought the tiny heart dish from Granville Market, Vancouver while visiting there with Flickr friend Charlotte...using it brought back lovely memories.
