Crazy Tuesday theme: This makes me happy.

Spring's arrival and it's colourful flowers makes me happy.

Oh, and hello April...it is so nice of you to join us. 💜

Thank you so much for your visit!

Hi everyone!

I said I'd be back sometime in the New Year and here I am with also the beginnings of a new 365 photo a day project. :) I tossed the idea back and forth in my head for the past few weeks and today I decided for sure, why not? This past year I hardly took any photos and I missed it very much and also all of you and the friendship and support you so generously offer. So here is my first photo of my 365 for 2025.

Happy New Year to you all! I wish you a wonderful year of love, good health and lots of happiness and laughs.

Cheers, friends!

Michelle

Day 354/365:

A quick flat lay with the iPhone and edited in Snapseed.

198/365: My friend's son bought me these gladioli for taking a parcel in for him. I certainly wasn't expecting such a generous gesture.

The title is from the (sixties) song Glad All Over by The Dave Clark Five.

20/52: The weekly challenge- Shot from above.

So I thought I'd do a flatlay using my vintage bottles for this theme. I painted a new backdrop (duck egg) and really wanted some texture to it. Unfortunately it dried smoother than I wanted so I added a texture courtesy of Kerstin Frank www.flickr.com/photos/kerstinfrank-design/6667355199/in/a...

Also for Sliders Sunday. HSS

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of my Flickr friends and followers a very happy Easter! May the days of celebration ahead as we commence the Easter period be filled with lots of fun, laughter and if you go on an Easter Egg hunt on Easter Sunday, a chocolate Easter egg... or two! However, amongst all the fun and frivolity and chocolate take a moment to stop and remember the reason for the season, whether it be religious, or the simple joy of being with the ones you love the most. Whatever the reason, I hope your Easter is special!

I thought nothing says Easter greetings more than a whole lot of antique Easter postcards and a few business trade cards from the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

Last year, I was shopping in an antiques and curios shop (surprise surprise) when I came across two boxes full of beautifully lithographed Victorian era business cards belonging to businesses long lost to time over the last 150 or more years. There were also lots of beautiful chromolithographed postcards. The box had a handwritten sign on it saying that the cards were $5.00 each, reduced to $3.00 if I bought five or more. I asked to see the boxes and went through them.

As I was going through them, the lady behind the counter told me that they were all the collection of a woman who used to have a stall in the antique shop (which is a collective). Sadly, but not unexpectedly, the former owner of this collection of cards died of cancer and, having no children of her own, asked her family (who had no interest in them) to sell off her collections in her stall at the antique shop at reasonable prices.

I was so impressed by the quality of the cards, and touched by the story of their former collector owner, that I ended up buying eighty of the cards. I could have bought more at the time, but I had to draw the line somewhere! I have taken several trips back since then and bought a great many more. At least this way I have held at least a portion of her collection, which she had so carefully curated, together.

357/365: The gift wrapping is finished so time for a nice cup of tea. Another fairly simple flatlay today as I am short of time.

I’ve always admired certain Flickr photographers for their discipline and talent in putting still lifes and flatlays together in a visually pleasing order.

The delicate pastel hues of Judi Mays’ flatlays, Cindy’s superbly orchestrated still lifes, Ant Maclean’s carefully constructed tableaux...me on the other hand I can’t seem to find those weather blasted and distressed, flaky paint, bits of wood or sea washed driftwood.

Apologies to those whom I’ve failed to mention but these guys are the ones that standout in the one brain cell that I laughingly call my memory.

So, I’m making do with tracking down other people’s window display efforts, usually junk shop ephemera. I imagine it’s not as satisfying as putting those items together oneself but at least there’s no clearing up afterwards. 😉

Well here’s my latest find, Cathedral Quarter Collectibles shop right here in sunny Derby.

Err, just to let you know, the Lion isn’t real.

Trying out an 'organised' flatlay instead of my normal more organic approach.

This starts my 100 project this year. I've been thinking about my theme for a while and have chosen flowers. It will be a mix of artificial, shop bought, from the garden or those seen when out and about. This should help me create something which fits my theme in any weather.

So providing there's a flower somewhere in the photo it will be going in this project

350/365: Today's photo is a tribute to dear friends who lost their son suddenly this week. Earlier in the week I received this lovely hand crafted angel from my friend so it seemed fitting to incorporate it. I am devastated for them...there is nothing worse than losing a child.

For the Crazy Tuesday group, challenge: Hobby. Happy Crazy Tuesday!

158/365: Another book on loan from my daughter-in-law. I haven't started reading it yet and probably won't get time before our holiday in a couple of weeks.

It's almost two years since my son married his beautiful bride, I don't know where the time has gone.

I took this photo as part of a challenge for three related photos but haven't got time to put them together just now.

I won't be around much for the next week or so. I'll try not to fall too far behind with commenting but may just have to hit the star for a while.

310/365: A bit of desperation here as the light was fading fast. My enthusiasm for the 365 is waning or my mojo is going...or maybe both. Either way I am struggling at the moment.

I hope you all had a great day!

Macro Mondays theme: snack

Broken guacamole tortilla chips topped with corn and bean salsa.

For Macro Mondays: "Cogwheel"

Een van de dingen die mijn moeder vaak zei.

Het gezegde betekend dat een meisje bescheiden en ingetogen hoort te zijn. Achteraf vreemd want mijn moeder was zelf een geëmancipeerde vrouw.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Literal translation:

GIRLS WHISTLING AND COWS MOOING ARE NO GOOD

One of the things my mother used to say.

The saying means that a girl should be modest. In retrospect, it was strange because my mother was an emancipated woman herself.

34/100: 100 x challenge - Flowers

34/100: 100 Flowers 2020

These flowers are from a bush in my garden, I've no idea what it's called but it's very pretty.

A flat lay of items that were in the room with me when I started out - I felt like it had sort of a travel vibe to it after i got it set up which is why I added 'explore' to it with the scrabble tiles.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

Macro Mondays - Knolling

Some of my pink things with a cup of white rose tea, that is white tea with rosebuds. I love it when I can drink or eat my props when I've finished with them, it was a little on the cool side but still tasty and refreshing.

Bit of a drab day today so I figured I may as well set up another quick still life / flat lay for my photo.

Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

224/365: If you can't think of anything to take a photo of then make something. I've actually finished this now but since I put so much effort in, why only get one photo from it. The finished article will be a photo for another day...or maybe more! ;).

The scissors here are my very first pair of hairdressing scissors...suffice to say they are pretty old...and pretty blunt! ;)

Day 2 of my 31 days of Lensbaby

A rummage through my Christmas craft stash for these berries and then some vintage bits and bobs for a festive flat lay...when all else fails
