Opened 27 Jul 1913, wood & iron, became hall when new church built 1937. Previous chapel was at Mount Bryan Flat, 2 miles from town.
“For some time the Methodist people of Mount Bryan have been trying to raise funds to erect a building for the purpose of holding Divine services and Sunday-school, and at last they have succeeded. Though there is already one Methodist church in the centre of the district, a hall also has been built, and on Sunday last it was opened. On Wednesday a dinner was held in the district institute hall, and proved a success. A meeting was subsequently held in the church hall.” [Advertiser 30 Jul 1913]
“The hall, which is situated in the township, fills a need that has been felt for some time, for the church, which has been formerly used, is situated nearly two miles away, and considering that the major portion of the congregation are composed of townsfolk and those residing near by. and that , the township is still growing, it was deemed advisable to make this move. . . is 30 feet by 20 feet, and 14 feet high, is iron, and lined throughout with asbestos, and it makes a very comfortable little building . . . to be furnished with garden seats, and it is well lighted and ventilated.” [Aust Christian Commonwealth 15 Aug 1913]

The Westward Ho runs a ferry service from Weston-super-Mare to Flat Holm. As seen here it lands on the beach and so the departure time is linked to high tide when the ferry is re-floated by the tide. The ferry claims to be Britains smallest car ferry with room for 1 car (but not to Flat Holm). The boat previously served as the Cromarty to Nigg ferry in Scotland. See mwmarine.org/ for sailing details.
It is also possible to travel to the island from Cardiff.

Always a challenge to make good use of the wee shot-gun bathrooms in West End flats, but we think this works well. The bath is pushed into the window space, and the wee step thing on the left works well for your glass of wine, book etc. The floor is natural stone tiling.
The area at the Eastern end of Wembley Street and Hickman Street - the old Gibbons Square area - was demolished in about 1966 and these new flats built. Certainly an improvement in living standards over Gainsborough's notoriously unhealthy yards - but hardly endowed with the same romantic charm.
sjcook.t21 posted an excellent "then & now" picture of this area some time ago.
Ann, my ex, moved to Dawlish in December 2017. I have used the plural term as intially Ann bought the flat on the middle floor but shortly afterwards decided to buy the flat above on the second floor as it has loft space and more sunlight, especially in Winter. The vegatation in the gutter has since been removed.

A rusty flat can from my collection of flatcans. Too many people feel free to throw away cans in the street. These get flattened and sometimes serve as a reminder.
