The Flat Iron building in New York City

Shot using my 300mm lens in Washington Township Michigan. It makes for a very flat photo.

On my drive from Geneva to Florence I got a flat tyre. With a bank holiday and places closed sundays, it meant I had to drive 3 days without a spare. The tyre had only been refitted 2 days earlier. The biggest hassle was that my car was full to the brim with my life!

The thumb was provided for scale. It turned out to be a morsel for munching, which I didn't notice until I reviewed the photo later. It did not take much to provoke this centipede.

Correction: this appears to be a flat backed millipede. Centipedes have one leg per segment. This has two.

Built in late 60s or early 70s and designed by the City Architect to replace slums in the area. Many of the city flats are orientated north/south to maximise sunlight and keep shadows to a minimum. They are made with reinforced concrete and have granite rubble cast into the concrete to minimise staining from rain.

Captains Flat is an historic mining town south of Queanbeyan in the Southern Tablelands of rural New South Wales with the Molonglo River running through it.

"The area was originally inhabited by Ngarigo Aboriginal people prior to European settlement. The town formed as a result of mining for gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper and iron pyrites in the hills surrounding the upper reaches of the Molonglo River. The town boomed from 1881 to 1899 then went into a rapid decline until 1939 when rail access revived mining activity for another 23 years." [Text courtesy of: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captains_Flat]. There are so many areas of natural beauty in and around Canberra, it's certainly worth a visit!

The reason they are linked to my pinch river profile is because they will inevitably feed into my work at some stage in some way or another, but for now can just be enjoyed as images of the area that captured my attention and inspired my creativity.

more shots from a recent beach visit...

I dislike that the Coke products in my area have started using the "flat caps." I used to see them when I traveled to different states, but I just now started seeing them here. I don't like them; they're hard to twist on and off.

Flats, Grange Park

Red Road flats in Glasgow, taken from a local alotment. I put it through lightroom, first time i had used the program so horrible results followed. I went a bit mental on the lighting and effects etc

*must return to lightroom... and try to figure out how to use the program :) *

Flat Stanley was impressed by the Green Entrance to Leisure World. During the winter it is a brown thatch of limbs and he is looking forward to see it go green in the spring. The guard house and electric entry gates are hidden by the center posts.

Flat-backed millipedes are just one group of a wide variety of millipede species found in US forests.

I just bought these flats and I'm in love with them.

These were lucky. I was watching the bird approach, head on, and so with no real idea of what it was (I wasn't quite sure it wasn't a Black Crowned Night Heron), and then it started to turn.

So I fired off three or four frames. These are the two that came out. I'm not quite sure what it is, but the probable ID is that it's a Sharp-Shinned Hawk, based on the smallish body, and the long tail behind the legs.

On the other hand (and why I am still not certain) it's a lot paler than the reference photos I've been able to find, and doesn't seem to have the "striations" which are part of its formal name, "Accipiter striatus"

I also can't see the dorsal color. I seem to recall it being pail, but this is too small for a gyrfalcon. I've seen Northern Harriers, and I'm pretty sure this isn't one, as it's too small to be an adult; and the season isn't right for a juvenile and even if it were, the markings are wrong.
