I get a lot of questions on my lighting. This is a sample of one of my favorite tools. That's right a flashlight.

"Non-Matrix Metering"
Using spot metering, the reflection from the wooden surface to the metallic flashlight body becomes more realized as opposed to using evaluative metering.

Usually matrix (evaluative) metering works fine for most scenes. For this exercise, choose a non-evaluative metering mode (such as Spot or Centre-weighted metering) and use it on a close-up of a face against a bright background (backlit subject).
30 sec exposure taken late at night at an old cemetery. My first attempt at this technique. Too bring out the details of the tombstone I used a light painting technique I read bout several years ago in a Smithsonian magazine. In this picture I used a standard flashlight and partially obscured the lens to prevent bright spots.

And here's the terminals glued to the batteries, with the leads soldered on. Unfortunately, when I tested with the multimeter after adding the wires, I'm not seeing the expected 6V, meaning either a bad connection to the battery, a solder, or a break in one of the wires. I'll have to do some troubleshooting to track that down and fix it.
NOTES FROM SUNDAY: Found the open, still have no idea how it happened as it looks like it should be an absolutely good connection. Oh well. Pulled questionable bit apart and put it back together several times, and ended up replacing one of the terminals, but I think my batteries are working now. At least they show more or less the expected voltage. No pictures, as it looks pretty much exactly the same.
Next step is to wire it in, (fingers crossed that I don't blow the bulb again), and remount the switch.
