We've had warm weather here in San Diego County for the last three days, and one of our beavertail cactus has come into bloom. It has a lot of buds, so I expect a lot more flowers in the coming days.
I lit this with a YN560-III in an 8.6 inch Lastolite softbox hand held at camera right about 4 inches from the flowers. I had a polarizer on the lens, and with the camera settings I used, no ambient light was recorded. The flash, in manual mode, was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Like a lot folks, I love vintage flash cards. I've not had any success on eBay (within my limits) but I found this box at my local goodwill for $1.99, which is well below what I have set as a bid limit on eBay!

I took part in the Manchester Weekender 2012 presents All in a Flash - a one day photography exhibition on the 14th october 2012.
Under the guidance of Len Grant, we tried to capture the characters of the Manchester Northern Quarter.
My theme was people at work within the Northern Quarter.
After taking photographs for a couple of hours, we each had a single shot printed out and took part in an exhibition flashmob - best described as a guerilla gallery.
Unfortunately only one shot was printed, so this gallery is an opportunity to say thank you to some of the other people that were kind enough to let me take their photograph.
Saw this pink in the sky early this morning...it lasted less than 5 minutes, just enough to grab this shot.

Trying some flash photography. Cut a red solo cup bottom off, put the bottom over flash then, the rest over the other part of the flash. Natural red. no filters!
Which doesn't appear to have a brand? Anyone know about this? Is this like those garbage no-name no-frill 35mms you'd get as a "gift" when you signed up for a bank account in the 90s?

This is a shoulder flash for 6th Armd Bde. When I joined the HQ, they had recently moved from Barnard Castle. Previously they had been part of 2nd Infantry Division, the key representing one of the 2 Div crossed keys, the bayonet the fact it had been an infantry brigade. A future commander changed the brigade symbol to a rhinoceros. On moving to Germany 6 Bde took over accommodation left by the Canadians who redeployed from Koerbecke near Soest, to the Black Forest area. This accommodation was, for the British Army at that time, sumptuous, and later copied as part of the Op Humane barracks upgrade programme.

A Flash is a water-filled hollow formed by subsidence.
Pennington Flash is a 70-hectare (170-acre) lake created at the turn of the 20th century by coal mining subsidence, mainly from Bickershaw Colliery. Before the flash the area contained two farms, both of which were abandoned in the early 1900s due to flooding.
During the 1960s and 1970s the idea to convert the flash for recreation was emerging and the country park was opened in 1981.
The track in front of the car was once the trackbed of the London and North Western Railway's Westleigh Line.
