Justing taking the 850 out on the first day of Spring. Giving it a break from photographing sports.

This empty planter sits at my front door. I mean it WAS empty. This afternoon I noticed a group of spring flowering plants in it; several miniature daffodils, a couple of tulips, a hyacinth and something else.

The best thing about a mystery like this one is that I have warm fuzzies for EVERYONE. Everyone I know now looks especially generous, thoughtful and caring and that feels good.

In the end, I found out I have my sister, Sheila, to thank for the soon-to-open flowers she planted in secret.

HAPPY SPRING EVERYONE!

P.S. I got an appointment for my first Covid-19 vaccination. Tuesday, March 30th. Hurray!

Late afternoon, drove to the Bottlebrush tree where I knew there would be jewels.

My Hitchhiker shawl, finished and blocking.

Eighteen miles separates the historic downtown district of Savannah from the quaint beach community of Tybee Island on the Atlantic. As someone who grew up along the Pacific Ocean, I tend to forget how enchanting the Atlantic Ocean can be.

This could be because I now live in a state where they consider lake water a “beach.” I miss the ocean and just hearing the waves crash is like a symphony in my head.

Another early morning along the Georgia coast and I found myself facing the Atlantic for the last time (at least for this trip).

There was nothing spectacular about this sunrise on that particular morning but the sight, smell and sound of the ocean soothed my soul and kept my shutter finger busy.

Happy Travels!

I am reluctant to turn this into Facebook, but since I refuse to open a Facebook account not wanting to be part of the "Great Unwashed", I will break my own rule and catch up with you all a little bit. I have long ago lost my "photo mojo" and just haven't wanted to post shots that aren't in my opinion flickr worthy. I have continued to visit here multiple times every day and enjoy seeing the great work my friends have been posting. My apologies to you all that I haven't posted many comments, My life has been complicated. It has been a busy 3-4 month period As some of you know, I had a bad bout with diverticulitis in July that resulted in 12 days in the hospital. While there, they discovered I needed I a bowel resection, that resulted in another 9 days in the hospital in October.

During that time in the hospital I came to the realize that life was catching up with me and I better fulfill some of my dreams before it gets too late. Soooo, in a moment of brilliance I decided, at the age of 64 , it was time to buy the house I should have bought at the age of 40. Well the closing dragged out until December 13th, a Friday by the way. Winter arrived on the next day and hasn't left yet. I have shoveled my damn 700 foot long driveway 22 times!!! So far! I wanted to paint and fix up some stuff before moving in, that took 3 months, I was thinking 3 weeks, and is no where near reaching a conclusion.

I lot of my reason for moving out to the country was so Scout and I would have room to roam. The day we signed for the house Scout's knees and hips developed arthritis and nerve problems. He has had a terrible time standing and moving around. We actually took him to the vet two days before moving into the house to have him put down. The vet thought shots might help and maybe warmer weather. He has had shots for a month now, and they seem to help at times, but slippery hardwood and tile floors and lots of stairs aren't being kind to him. The weather has been down right cruel to him. Today is the first day of Spring, maybe it will break soon.

Oh, did I forget to mention, I wasn't a very good patient after my sigmoid colonectomy and I developed a hernia. I struggled with that through the move in and finally had the operation last Wednesday. I have every confidence that I will continue to be a bad patient and will be back in the hospital soon.

Anyway, enough of this, just wanted you all to know why I haven't been commenting or posting. That and the fact that I suffer from depression. ( It just gets better doesn't it?)

Scout and I are going to try to hang in here, here are a few more pictures of the 500 feet of stream that passes through our property.

It's officially Spring and although we can't go out because of the Covid-19 lockdown, I'm glad that I have nature around me so that I can take these photos without breaking the rules.

I hope we'll have a nice Summer after all. Meanwhile, let's stay home, safe and strong.

France, 2020.

Happy Spring, everyone! As so often happens, this Tulip was already starting to wilt by this morning. My camera lens touched a petal when I was trying to take a macro and off it came. Then a second one fell. Managed to get a few shots with the remaining petals intact. Just loved the flaming streaks on the textured, white petals.

We saw some interesting sights when we walked as far as the blind at Frank Lake three days ago, including ice patterns and bubbles. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing that the bubbles were caused by methane gas escaping from all the plant material at the bottom of the lake water?

On 19 March 2016, I was on a birding day trip with a group of friends, going SE of Calgary, E of High River. Though the day started off rather cold, it gradually warmed up and was a beautiful day to be out in nature.

I will add our leader's report that he sent into eBird, adding that I did not see all of the sightings, as the birds were much too far away. As always, my camera lens was turned to various other things, too. Thanks so much, as always, Andrew, for a most enjoyable day! Thanks, too, Anne, for driving - I really appreciated the ride!

"We had 16 participants when we left Calgary on a sunny but frosty morning.

We arrived at the main gate around 10:00 am and set off, in a chilly -5 deg C to walk down to the outfall and then around to the blind. The recent cold nights had refrozen some of the lake, but it is still mostly open water.

Most obvious were the thousands of Pintails and hundreds of swans (mostly Tundra today). We did see the overwintering (presumably) Song Sparrow near the outfall. About 60-80 California Gulls, no other gulls that we could identify.

We left and went to High River for lunch, stopping by the Sutherland Shelterbelt to acknowledge the resident Great Horned Owl.

After lunch we circled the lake on the usual roads and ended up at the Basin 2 West Bay. Several more swans and finally, the Eurasian Wigeon, spotted by Tony Timmons. By lunchtime the temperature had reached about 10 deg C and continued to rise reaching ~14 deg C and making a perfect Alberta Spring (almost) afternoon.

Leaving Frank Lake we stopped in at Blackie to find mostly Starlings, and a few Eurasian Collared Doves.

The list for Frank Lake and Blackie was:

From Blackie we stopped by Third Lake on the way back to Calgary. A huge number of birds there, somewhere between 4000 and 8000, generally somewhat distant. Mostly Pintails, but we also saw American Wigeon, Mallard, a few Canada Geese, and California Gulls.

Clearly Pintails are on the move right now."

Well not so sure about that lol. I can hear the wind whipping up out there since it has dropped over 25 degrees since yesterday when it was sunny, beautiful and 60ish. It is now 34 out there now and raining and threatening to snow. Lovely Chicago weather - you never know what it will bring.

Well I'm still happy that it is the weekend and that it is light now when I leave work for the day. All good things :)
