When I caught my first glimpse of the beach last Wednesday, I wasn't very hopeful of getting great shots. It was rather gloomy and extremely windy out. The beach was all but deserted, with only the most die hard walkers and bikers taking advantage of the solitude to get their exercise. Capturing shots was difficult, as the wind kicked up sand, and blew my hair and camera strap in front of the lens! When I looked to the west, though, I could see that the clouds were headed out to sea, and blue skies were going to emerge, so I stayed for a little while to see if I could capture more "classic" beach weather for you!

Aside from the wind, I have always preferred the stormy looking days on the beach. Everything takes on a drama that makes it feel exciting. Unfortunately, the electricity here can be all too real, and not just moody! Central Florida is the lightning capital of the United States, and so when storm clouds are around, there's always the chance of being stuck. It happens to several unlucky people yearly. In my years of dodging lightning bolts for a shot, I've been blessed that none came too close!

Here you get just the slightest taste of windy, stormy weather in the Daytona Beach area. Within minutes, the sky was turning blue, and the scene became a typical tropical postcard. The wind was still fierce, but you'd never know looking at the scene unless you'd been there.

I visited Glastonbury on Wednesday 22nd June 2022 to capture some of the bus action transporting festival goers to the annual event. Of course, I was instantly attracted to the 6 Bristol VRs and 7 Olympians operated by Chepstow Classic Buses, but there were plenty of other interesting buses to photograph as well!

Black Darter (Sympetrum danae) - freshly-emerged from yesterday.

After three weeks inside we decided to venture out again and take advantage of the good weather. I had a few locations in mind, starting with my favourite spot for Black Darters and Common Emeralds.

The latter were surprisingly few & far between but we didn't have to wait long to see the first immature S. Danae followed by several more. However the highlight was this still very fresh emergent crawling up the juncea.

The first I've seen and although I had a hunch it could only be S. danae I did ask a trusted source to confirm. What an absolute delight. One of those rare moments which are even more special in these restricted times.

Nubble Lighthouse

Constructed in 1879 & still in use today.

This is one of many shots of Nubble Light. I don't know about you, but I always take about 50 or more pics of basically the same comp when I am photographing a place like this. Maybe because the light & sky is ever-changing but I'm always trying to get the best possible shot. There is such a limited window with a sunrise I don't want to waste any of that precious time. Anyway, I was going through these pics today and realized this one got over-looked. It was taken at 4:53am on 8/28, a beautiful summer morning. We live relatively close to Nubble so it's only a 40 min drive but getting up at 3:30 is never easy, I'm sure glad we did that morning. It turned out to be one to remember.
