I was really looking for a nice bright shot for today. And then I found this fire. It was a little overblown in the center, but I hope it gets across just how hot fire is.
This is sorta symbolic of me getting back into things again. It's time to remember the good things in life, and just now nice a shot can come out. Of course, it also reminds me of how few fireworks shots I took, but at least I'll know for next time to take more!
My second to last shot from the Celebrate America show at the magic kingdom back in July. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
Funny story, I took an HDR bracket after Magical had finished (because, of course, my framing was off during my pre-show bracket) and halfway through it, I bumped my tripod. So I tried for a long shot and attempted to re-set my frame so I could finish. Granted it wasn't perfect, but it was close enough that Photomatix was able to align the images!
I was quite pleased with how much easier it was to get a location when shooting at DHS, I got this spot about 45 minutes prior but at showtime there were very few people around me. It was a nice change. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.
"Believe in Holiday Magic"
Disneyland Park - Anaheim, CA
This isn't the most spectacular fireworks shot ever, but it seemed appropriate for this last fireworks Friday before Christmas. A 0.6 ND filter on my camera allowed me to get a longer exposure and to bring the Christmas colors into the classic Mickey fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle. Enjoy & Merry Christmas!

Fireworks fill the sky above the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater during the Symphony In The Stars show during Star Wars Weekends. This area was not crowded at all mainly because it is off to the side of the show, kind of like watching Wishes from Liberty Square. An added benefit to this location is that the Star Wars characters who appear on stage before the show pass by on their way backstage.
This was taken at the unofficial "Gregg and Justin couldn't make it, Ryan couldn't make it and Bill couldn't make it" photomeet on 4/12 and let me tell you, it was quite an ordeal! After a late dinner at Rancho del Zocalo, Mike, Patti and I set up our tripods near the Big Thunder exit about 40 minutes before the show. We settle into our spots, take our brackets and wait for the show to start only to realize that all three of us had chosen TERRIBLE framing. Mike and Patti scrambled to the exit and I rushed halfway back to the entrance (on a fractured ankle, no less) to the stroller parking and was able to salvage the rest of the show. So much for being prepared! And to make matters worse (for me!), I find out after the show that the cast members allowed Mike and Patti to set up in the gated CM only area right outside the exit! Never has shooting fireworks been so hectic or hilarious
Here is the last of my series of shots from Prince Eric's Castle, the shots where I forgot to set my ISO to 100 and left it on auto! Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
Last week I intended to shoot Magical in front of Small World but we were distracted and failed to set up anywhere in time, however as we were rushing through Fantasyland I noticed this frame and right as I decided that this would be a great spot, one of those shooting star fan sprays was set in the dead center of my frame and that just affirmed it. I didn't have my full size tripod with me so I was determined to shoot from here this week.
As you can see, there wasn't any wind so the smoke stagnated which dulled these glittering bursts but still caused majorly blown highlights. Even though the conditions weren't ideal, I'm still relatively happy with what I brought home. Happy Fireworks Friday everyone!
On a overcast and blustery evening, Ryan Pastorino joined Justin, Bill McIntosh and myself for an impromptu meetup at Disneyland earlier this week. One of my goals for the evening was to catch the "Mickey" burst, a shot that has eluded me for one reason or another...Mickey's right ear (or is it his left ear...) drifted a bit on the breeze, but I was just happy to catch the burst at all!
Happy Fireworks Friday from Disneyland!
Illuminations - Reflections of Earth, Epcot
Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, FL
Illuminations may be my favorite of the nighttime spectaculars at Walt Disney World. It isn't as "magical" as Wishes might be over in the Magic Kingdom, but the way the World Showcase lagoon is utilized for this show is highly impressive. You can view the show from a different country every night! This shot was taken from the second floor of the Mitsukoshi department store building outside Tokyo Dining, the most creatively named restaurant at WDW.
This was my first time shooting Illumnations, and the shot was taken with a .6ND filter on my Canon 17-85mm lens. I love the long exposures the ND filter allows me when shooting fireworks, it makes for much more "full" shots.
Thanks for viewing!
Missing WDW lately and after a return to Flickr after a few too many weeks away, I see all my Disney Flickr friends' fireworks photos and miss it more! So, now here's mine :)
It had been years since i had last seen this show, so I was looking forward to seeing it again during my trip last October. At the same time though, I didn't expect to come away with any good shots because I didn't know the show at all. Thanfully, my friend and fellow Pixelmaniac, Jeff Dierking walked me through the next scene during each of the show breaks, allowing me to anticipate the shots instead of react to them. Thanks to Jeff's help, I ended up with a couple of shots I'm happy with.
There was no way I was missing a chance to photograph a rare fireworks show at Hollywood Studios, and man was it a great show!
Fireworks Friday - we decided to try shooting Illuminations from the Canadian Pavilion and we had some pretty good viewing for the show.
Fireworks Friday! Another shot of Holiday Wishes from the Top of the World Lounge in Bay Lake Tower. Thanks for looking!
Here is another shot from the Wishes Dessert Party with no music piped in, show was still nice but was weird not hearing the music.
I completely forgot to prepare a shot for Fireworks Friday so at the last minute I was looking through photos from my first actual fireworks shoot when I stumbled upon this one. I was actually considering layering in the establishing shot with a near empty pathway because nobody likes to see a bunch of heads mucking up the foreground, but then I looked closer...
And I suggest viewing this in the lightbox. The people in front pop a bit more against a dark background
Fireworks Friday! Going through my shots from our Christmas week trip I came across this one. I knew it was not the best, but I liked how within all that blown out area you could identify all the shell bursts. Now in no way does this do justice to the awesome display that is the Illuminations Holiday Tag, it does give a small visual to the nuber of shells that go off in a VERY short time. Thanks for looking and have an awesome weekend!
Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam, in Disney's Hollywood Studios, is as much a projection mapping and laser show as anything, but it still includes quite a few fireworks (that's the "BAM" part of the title). I've heard folks complain about the lack of fireworks, and that could be a problem if you can't get a viewing spot near the Chinese Theatre. The show also focuses obscure (at least to me) characters from something called Prep and Landing, but once you've seen the show a couple times it makes sense. There is a bit of a sense that the show tries to squeeze a whole lot of different character/video clips/fireworks/etc in at different times, but it's still fun and upbeat, with music the crowd can dance and sway to. Don't compare this with the Osborne Lights, since the show designers didn't have the same canvas to work with. It's a pleasant way to end your holiday evenings in the Studios.
Fireworks Friday!! Disney's Celebrate America fireworks show was a wonderful change from Wishes. We were lucky enough to arrive on the last day of the "Limited Time Magic" for this on July 7th. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
It's Friday already! I dug up a shot from my first real fireworks shoot, and if you look to the left you'll see Tinkerbell streak across the sky. Now I don't know how you got THAT idea in your head, it is a family park after all.
One of my favorite parts of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth occurs near the end of the show. Shells fired from all around World Showcase Lagoon arc out over the water towards the open globe in the center. This view is from the balcony above the Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan pavilion. The torii gate is silhouetted in the foreground and the lit-up roof lines of the pagoda are visible on the right.
It's been quite a while since I photographed the regular Wishes show at the Magic Kingdom from the front. I decided to try out the FastPass+ viewing area of the redesigned hub. Standing all the way at the back on a relatively uncrowded night, I had an unobstructed view of the whole show. I was kind of surprised at how low even the highest bursts were, meaning that my choice of an ultra-wide-angle lens was unnecessary.
Here is another shot I took last month while at Pixelmania of Holiday Wishes. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.
Fireworks Friday! Another shot from the Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
Fireworks Friday! A little blown out, but I liked the colors on the outside of the burst. Thanks for looking and enjoy your weekend.
After about a month I finally have a shot prepared for Fireworks Friday! However I was not very well prepared for that evening's shoot even though I had fully intended to set up for Magical. We just lost track of time at DCA with dinner time and the AP preview of Ariel's Undersea Adventure that I didn't have my tripod out until well after the show had begun and I completely forgot that I was previously using a higher ISO than usual so half of my shots are blown. Even though this isn't going to be the forerunner in my fireworks collection, I wanted to share what I was able to do at this location. Granted, it would have worked out better with a nice wide angle but the thing that really threw off the framing was the lamp post that would have been dead center of the ideal frame.
Near the end of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the sky fills with fireworks. There are high bursts, upward fountains and sparkly shells arcing in from the perimeter of World Showcase Lagoon. The combination of the visual spectacular and the accompanying musical crescendo make for an emotional finish to the nightly show.

The FastPass+ viewing area for IllumiNations is at the front of World Showcase Lagoon, between the two gift shops. Rumor has it that this is the location that the show's designers had in mind as the perfect viewing spot. As with all outdoor spectacles at Walt Disney World, your view will be obstructed if you don't claim your spot early.

One of my favorite fireworks shots from our last trip. Enjoy!
Thanks for looking & sharing your thoughts!
Yes, that's two weeks in a row where I actually had something prepared for Fireworks Friday!
I took this on a windless evening where the bursts had to contend with residual smoke which of course thickened as the show progressed. I'm not sure what happened with the center of Mickey's left ear but there were several shells that didn't burst properly that night
It's a shot nobody has really attempted before (at least that I've seen) and it's one I want to come back and take with a Tripod - if anyone who's more experienced and way better at taking fireworks photos than me wants to know where this is taken - it's in Mater's Quene.
All photos are hand held. They don't allow tripods in the stadium. Gotta love the Olympus 5 way image stabilization. OM-1ii, 1250 ISO, f/5, 1/15 sec. Zuiko 12-40mm lens.
