Fireworks Friday! This is from Holiday Wishes at The Magic Kingdom. It is SUCH a great show. The musical score coupled with the explosions of the fireworks is enough to make even the biggest Scrooge turn soft. And at the end when the whole park is surrounded - sends chills through your whole body! If there's one thing Disney has got down pat - it's fireworks!!

Another shot from the boardwalk in Frontierland.

Still drawing from my 4th of July pictures, as I haven't been to a park at night lately. I need to fix that soon.

One of the big shells of Wishes bursts over the Liberty Belle in the Magic Kingdom. This is another shot from my "night without a tripod," balancing the camera on one of the not-so-steady pilings along the Rivers of America.

Every time the Dream Along with Mickey show nears its finale, two sets of fireworks are set off. When that happens, people all over the Magic Kingdom, no matter where they are, look towards Cinderella Castle and wonder "What is going on, and why am I here instead of there?"

April is National Autism Awareness Month, and I'm posting this photo in honor of my friend's two autistic sons. For more information: www.autismspeaks.org

I'm back. We have Internet. I have a computer. I have time. I'm back.

Sorry I've been away, but an event happened that has forced my family to live in a rental house for a while whilst our home is being rebuilt. After a long fight with Comcast, we finally were able to get Internet, and so I can finally see all the lovely shots that were posted (bigger than on my iPhone) and also rejoin the ranks of the editors and posters. I thought it appropriate to have a fantastic fireworks shot up for Fireworks Friday.

This shot is from the beginning of Illuminations, which I'd probably shoot again with a shutter speed of less than 30 seconds. That speed is great for the middle and end of the show, but the fire at the beginning causes too many highlight blowouts, and there's also far too much going on, which makes for a murky and busy shot. Still, I love me a good explosion!

IllumiNations is a great fireworks show for many reasons. The music is great, the images on the globe are great, and the number of locations in Epcot where the show can be enjoyed is great. Looking for a new (to me) location, I joined a group of friends and photographed the show over the "upside-down waterfall" fountain at the Imagination pavilion.

Another shot from the Magic Kingdom 4th of July fireworks.

Alternate title: A salute to all nations that invented fireworks, but mostly Star Wars

Yeah, that doesn't make a lot of sense.

The no-longer-hidden Chinese Theater is silhouetted by the grand finale of Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular. This is a hand-held grab shot taken from my dessert party table. There's no room there for a tripod, but adult beverages are included in the price. It's not a bad trade-off.

Wishes over Beast's Castle. I really wasn't too impressed with this vantage point after hearing several people say its really cool. I don't think the castle is a big enough focal point, especially compared against Cinderella's Castle, and there's nothing to provide an extra bonus like reflections on the Rivers of America.

My final really good shot from back on the Rivers of America of Wishes. Thanks for looking!

Somewhere in the great wide world of Disney fan photography, I saw a really cool close-up shot of IllumiNations. (Sadly, I can't remember the name of the photographer.) Ever since, I've wanted to try my hand at such a shot. So one night, sitting next to World Showcase Lagoon in France after the Tuesday night Owner's Locker get-together, I threw on my 70-200mm lens and tried some hand-held short-exposure shots. There were a lot of rejects, as expected, but this shot from near the end of the show looked pretty decent to me. It just proves that there are many ways to shoot fireworks, and they're all correct.

"...of others with your smart devices." This announcement, made at the beginning of the Frozen sing-along, should be made standard at all Disney parks and attractions. It should also end with "or by putting children on your shoulders." In fact, anyone who holds anything above their heads during a show, attraction or parade should immediately be ejected. In my opinion.

Anyway, here's a photo of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth for Fireworks Friday.

I decided to take the new fisheye for a spin with Illuminations, and it didn't let me down!

Fireworks Friday - Happy Hallowishes

Mickey's Not So Scary 2013

I love the first act of Illuminations, but the inferno barge makes it very difficult to capture shots with nice trails in them. This is about as good as I could clean this shot up between the high-intensity fireworks and the barge.

In all my years of watching and photographing fireworks shows at Walt Disney World, I believe this is the first time I've captured an honest-to-goodness Mickey burst. Of course, it could just be the result of chance or the angle of view that aligned the bursts.

This version of "Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular" predates the current version with the video show on the Chinese Theater by a few months.

We had the perfect viewing location for HalloWishes and my new Sigma 35mm lens offered a unique view of the fireworks. I love the trails and movement towards the bottom of the photo. One of my favorite things about this lens is how sharp it is all the way around.

Still pulling from the wonderful night I had back in Frontierland with Wishes. I really like this shot because of the odd light trails of the fireworks; they're completely different from the nice, neat, "predictable" lines of most of the other shots.

The fireworks shows at Walt Disney World are breaking all kinds of new ground. Unless my camera's white balance is way off, these shells are an unusual color for fireworks: pink. Perhaps it's a tribute to Leia, Rey, Mon Mothma and all of the other women of Star Wars who are just as heroic as the men.

Well, I don't do too many fireworks shots (and I think this is the first I'm posting to Flickr), but I was pretty happy with this one. Fireworks at Disneyland are always fun, as long as you can manage the crowds with a tripod. :)

Thanks for looking! I appreciate any comments or feedback.

Another shot of Illuminations. Not anywhere near my best, but I wanted something for Fireworks Friday. I've got a few more locations to try over the next few weeks.

Happy Fireworks Friday and Happy Independence Day

The Symphony in the Stars show brought fireworks back to Disney's Hollywood Studios. Before the launch location was moved farther away (in early summer 2016), you could see the bursts from all over the park. For example, Echo Lake provided not only a good view but a lot of interesting foreground elements.

From my poorly chosen spot!

The Symphony in the Stars show featured the music of the Star Wars movies with synchronized fireworks. The show had the advantage over the current show in that they could be viewed in several areas of the park. The current shows in DHS and the Magic Kingdom require guests to find a location with a good view of the video projection in order to get the full effect of the show. Sometimes change is not progress.

Since I can't be at the 24-hour Rock Your Disney Side event at either of the Disney Parks, I'll just post a #fireworksfriday picture.
