...at Edmond, OK's UCO Campus. So excited to have my camera back & to have spent such an awesome day with family & friends. #fireworksfriday

Thanks for looking & have a great day!

This shot was from the July 3rd show back in 2013 from the Polynesian. This was one of my favorite locations to shoot before the DVC bungalows were built. This was near the very beginning of the show, so a bit of blue-hour lighting was still around to add to the shot.

I was lucky enough to be invited to spend some time at a friend's Bora Bora Bungalow last night, and it included a stunning view of the Happily Ever After fireworks. This was my first time shooting the show. The show loses a little bit, not having the projections, but I think everybody should watch just the fireworks in their first viewing, then see them in-park where they can enjoy the projections. Having both at first can be a bit overwhelming!

After meeting up with Tom Bricker and his wife Sarah, Justin and I decided that we might try photographing the fireworks from outside the Main Gate...Actually, this is an idea I have had for a while...I have seen other shots from here, and wanted to try it for myself...On this day, I did not have my entire photo bag, and used the fisheye lens that I had attached. While I really like the entry/exit queues and the brickwork in front, the Station and fireworks are kind of diminutive...Disneyland's fireworks are substantially smaller than WDW's, and most of them barely made it over the roof of the station.

Still, this is an interesting scene, enhanced by the fireworks, as opposed to an interesting setting for the fireworks...But I like it!

Happy Fireworks Friday!

Holiday Wishes taken from the Train Station during Pixelmania 2010

Technical Info: Shot with a Singh-Ray Vari-ND filter. NIK Color Efex Tonal Contrast filter was used in photoshop to enhance the fireworks.

Very happy with how my last IllumiNations shot turned out, even if it meant being called a rookie by Don and Jeff. They were surprised that I had never shot IllumiNations from Japan before, not even in my pre-local trips!

My third time capturing Holiday Wishes was far more successful than my first two. The first time I was shooting near the Hub and forgot to see the show and do my "research," and the second time was from the California Grill. This is also the first time I've managed to not completely blow out the finale. I thought I had spun my variable ND too dark, but it came out perfectly!

Wishes Nighttime Spectacular at Magic KIngdom

Only a few more weeks left before Christmas, so it's back to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom for this week's #FireworksFriday .

Another image from Pixelmania 2011, you can even see the camera that was just to the right of mine. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

Well, here's another installment of "The View From Innoventions" during the mini-meetup for no particular reason meetup at Disneyland two weeks ago...

This time we have a view of the Haunted Mansion sequence from the "Remember...Dreams Come True" fireworks display.

This HDR image was made from a single frame captured in RAW format. There are a few different ways to create a HDR image from a single exposure...

One way is to import the RAW image to Photomatix where the program can tonemap it, creating its best guess at filling in the missing light data.

I prefer a little more control over the image, and therefore choose to import the RAW file into Adobe Lightroom where the image was corrected for color balance, and three versions of the image is created, each with different exposure values from -2 to +2 EV. These three new images are then taken into Photomatix and processed like a "normal" bracket with follow-on processing in Photoshop.

You may wonder why I choose to create a HDR image out of a single exposure...

Honestly, after learning how to make HDR images work the way I want them to, it is pretty hard to be happy with a normal image anymore...I can take the HDR image and "open" or "close" the light and shadow detail to my tastes, along with color, contrast, and sharpness. In the case of these fireworks shots, I had actually planned to create a composite image based upon a HDR bracket taken just before the show started, me3rged with the fireworks exposure of choice. I have actually finished a couple of these images as composites and decided that they just don't capture the "mood" of the show as I remember it, or the spectacularly different lighting effects on Matterhorn. By choosing a single image, I am telling the story as it really happened. Having said that, I am never above using digital trickery to achieve what is in my mind's eye, haha!

New goal. Get to EPCOT and photograph three fireworks shows without leaving the park. It is doable!

For this week's #FireworksFriday, I'll share a view of Wishes from Top of the World lounge at Bay Lake Tower in Disney World in Florida.

I prefer to watch Magic Kingdom fireworks from inside the park, as you get a better view of the show as it was designed to be presented and feel more immersed in the story, but it's still nice to step back every once in awhile and watch from somewhere else. Top of the World is close enough to the park that you still have a good view of some recognizable landmarks to include in the shot, but you can also get an idea of how big the Magic Kingdom shows really are. This is even more evident when the shows include perimeter bursts that surround the park.

This may have been the eaiest time I have had shooting fireworks at WDW. We left Epcot around 8:30 or so and walked over to the Studios and stopped shortly after walking under the Lake Buena Vista Drive bridge. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

I've never attended Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, but I have watched Hallowishes a few times from outside the Magic Kingdom. As fall settles in, I'll continue to share the photos I've taken, including this one from Bay Lake Tower. I used my older, Canon EOS 20D to capture this shot, because I was using my newer Canon to record video of the show.

Here is one from the end of Hollywood Blvd. I want to thank the dude that warned me to move my tripod back out of the "crosswalk" as that was a traffic flow area. If I had not done that I would have been forced to move and not had a good location. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

To capture the size of Disney's fireworks shows that include perimeter bursts requires backing away from some of the standard locations for shooting Wishes. This view is from a hotel room in Bay Lake Tower. From here, a lot is lost, as Cinderella Castle is dwarfed by Space Mountain and the foreground includes a relatively uninteresting parking lot. The curve of the monorail track adds at least a moderately interesting shape.

This #FireworksFriday photo isn't my best effort, as I don't know the Hallowishes show as well as I know regular Wishes, but it does give folks a pretty good idea of the scale of the show.

This isn't one of my better fireworks photos, but it contains all of the elements I want for the last #FireworksFriday before Christmas: Dreamlights, perimeter bursts, along with red and green fireworks!

I had to do a little extra work, because I didn't plan the shot very well and had to close the shutter before Cinderella Castle iced over or risk blowing out my fireworks photos. That required combining a second exposure of the castle and crowd with the fireworks I wanted. It's a shot I could have easily executed in one exposure had I been prepared, so I'll need to study Holiday Wishes better for the next time I get to see it!

Tink and I both hope you have a fantastic weekend!

I really love this shot. I really love every shot from HalloWishes, honestly. I like how, in this shot as opposed to last week, the fireworks are interacting more with Cinderella Castle, rather than just framing it. Not only are the starting to cross in front of the castle, but you can see two bursts that originated inside of the castle. I also love the variety of colors, from the greens to the oranges and reds and then in the very back, you can see the purples and magentas.

This past Sunday, I was lucky enough to attend the final showing of the beloved fireworks show, "Remember, Dreams Come True." Remember has been my favorite show for years now, so I’m really sad to see it go. There was so much love, personality, and memory within the show. From Julie Andrews’ narration, to the inclusion of the original Star Tours spiel, and the original Main Street Electrical Parade theme, Remember captured all the wonderful things about Disneyland I grew up with and cherished in a fantastic fireworks display. I’m going to miss it dearly, but I’m optimistic that with the 60th anniversary we’ll be given something wonderful.

I can officially now say that shooting Wishes from the bridge across from Be Our Guest will be a difficult endeavor at 28mm or narrower. An ultra-wide will be required to get both sides of the show in frame, though, you can get Cinderella Castle without going that wide!

I've just realised that I never got round to uploading any images from my Disney College Program last summer up to Flickr...so I may as well start with a #FireworksFriday and Wishes at Magic Kingdom!

I've missed a couple recent #FireworksFriday weeks, but since this is the last one before Halloween, I'll share one more look at Hallowishes from Bay Lake Tower.

Another one from the Frozen Fireworks in Hollywood Studios. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

I'm just squeezing this in under the wire for #FireworksFriday, but want to share this week, since I was recently chatting about using a neutral density filter to shoot Happily Ever After. In that discussion, a photographer asked if they should use a filter for the show the first time they went to shoot and I suggested that they should not. However, I think this photo illustrates some of the reasons to use and not to use a nd filter.

There are many scenes in the show when fireworks bursts fall in the same place, relatively close to the castle. This part of the show, while the Genie in Aladdin is speaking, is an exception, with a wider distribution of fireworks.

So, I like the way the fireworks look in this shot, but one thing that is lost are the castle projections. You can make out the word "Applause", which appears late in the scene, but you can't really see the detail in the castle projections, and those projections are just as big a part of this show as the fireworks.

So, as often, the answer to the question about using a neutral density filter or not depends on what sort of image you wish to capture.

Here is my last shot from Echo lake during last summers Frozen Fireworks at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

"Wishes" Fireworks - Magic Kingdom Park

Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, FL

"A magical gathering"... this particular night I setup shop near Partners during the electrical parade, and wound up talking to the folks right next to me. Turns out both of us were from the same town! I guess that's not exactly magical, but it is always fun to make some small world connections while traveling.

Hope you enjoy this shot. Thanks for looking!

Fireworks Friday - I wanted to try a few different locations while photographing wishes and the first one that came to mind was from New Fantasyland. I was told from some CMs that this was one of the best spots to watch it from and boy they weren't kidding

Happy Fireworks Friday!

Even though Magical is definitely not my favorite Disney Parks firework show, I was really excited to shoot fireworks after taking a long firework shooting hiatus. I rented a 14-24 f/2.8 for a week and went a bit crazy with the Disneyland landscape shots (they're coming, just wait) and the fireworks shots. Unfortunately, I didn't get to shoot the finale, as the show was canceled to "high winds." Who knew that was a thing?! Oh well. Another time, perhaps.

I'm horribly rusty on my firework shooting, so any constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated.

My first trip to the reimagined Disney California Adventure was awesome! I loved the details and Buena Vista Street was very impressive. I happened to catch a great vantage point for the fireworks over Disneyland on one of our last nights.

I am officially done with Student Teaching! This also means I'm done with college! So what I am I going to do? I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!!

Sorry for the insane amounts of excitement. Today is just a good day all around. I'm headed down to the shore for the weekend, so I'll catch up on all your streams on Sunday night when I get back!

Wishes Nighttime Spectacular at Magic Kingdom

Here's another shot from the Illuminations dessert party taken during the Photo Magic Event back in 2013. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch Illuminations again without remembering what a great time I had that night! It was definitely my favorite part of the Photo Magic trip!

The Photo Magic meet up was a lot of fun and I think a lot of people, myself included, expected this to become an annual event. Sadly, it now seems like Photo Magic was fated to be only a one time only happening.

Here is another shot from the back of the Italy Pavilion, just outside the doors to Tuto Gusto. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

With yesterday's announcement of the end of a 14 year run, I wanted to go back in my archives and find an old picture, or pictures, of Wishes that I could re-edit for today. This is a quick composite of three images, from the end of Wishes, on the last flagpole down day I was able to shoot.

This was from the first night I tried shooting the new fireworks show in Epcot and without knowing the show very well I was lucky to find two different scenes with bursts that didn't pop up in the same places!

Shooting the fireworks of Epcot’s Illuminations Reflections of Earth is one of the thing things I look forward to every year when we go to Disney World. With the retirement of Illuminations I was cautiously optimistic about shooting the new Epcot show. I didn’t get a chance to shoot the new show, or even go to Florida, I did realize that I had a few fireworks photos from last year that I had not worked on or posted since we got back. While it’s not the same as just getting back from a nice vacation getting to work on a few new Disney Photos helped make the last few “Stay at Home Days” a little more tolerable. It’s a crazy world right now try to stay safe and keep your sanity and sense of humor.

Thanks for Looking.

It's been a while since I've posted a fireworks Friday photo, but it is appropriate to get back to it with my favorite fireworks show! Somehow we get in a rut as to where we view the show from, so this was my first time watching from Italy. Could have been slightly better positioned for the globe & gondola poles, but I still like this shot. I hope you enjoy it as well!

Thanks for looking! Comments & constructive criticism are always welcome.

My first fireworks friday post in a while! This is from the Frozen segment of Disneyland Forever! from last year's Diamond Celebration.

Happy Friday!

Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
