It's a blue kind of day here, rainy and kind of dreary. Also, a lot has happened in the last month. God is trying to impress on me that life is short, it's precious, each moment counts. So I'm trying to live a life that reflects that.
We've decided to take one last trip before we let our WDW APs expire. There will be a gap in trips due to some some of these life changes, so we've decided not to renew until next year. If you've got plans to be in WDW over Labor Day Weekend, let me know, we'd love to say hi!
Lastly, if you'd like to see more Fireworks Friday photos, we're featuring a bunch on the blog today!
Had a chance to photograph this show last month due to every timing issue working out in my favor and arriving at Epcot and walking into the Fastpass+ area at 9:15 pm.
Thanks for looking and have a great day!
Fireworks Friday! Another shot from the Odyssey Bridge during Christmas week. Thanks for looking and enjoy your Friday everyone!
The flag pole was down for the Christmas Parade taping, I grabbed space on the upper level of the train station during the Pixelmania MVMCP meet. Shooting fireworks from this location was one of the primary reasons for attending Pixelmania this year and looking through my fireworks shots I'm very glad that I did.
Special thanks go out to Cory Disbow and Scott Thomas for sharing some tips on shooting fireworks with a ND filter. Without their help I would have been guessing blindly at settings and would have never gotten these shots.

Yesterday was Disney-MGM Studios' 25th birthday, which meant one big thing, fireworks! Just like with May the 4th last year, I decided to set up on Echo Lake with my fisheye to ensure total coverage, and was there with the same spot at around 5:45 almost as soon as I clocked out from working. This was one cool fireworks show, and this is definitely my favorite shot from it.
Happy Friday everyone! Have an awesome weekend!
As for the shot, this is a 5 shot HDR, edited with Camera Raw, CS5, and some Nik Software.
Please don't hesitate to tell me what you think, comments and constructive criticism are welcome and appreciated! :)
This scene may not have the most fireworks bursts (and those seem to get the most views when I post on #FireworksFriday), but there's still a lot to look at. You can see some of the stained glass effect on Cinderella Castle, fireworks bursts from different directions, and even the blur of Tinker Bell taking flight over the Magic Kingdom!
I'm still trying to decide whether or not I recommend using a neutral density filter to shoot the show, but this image was captured through one, allowing an exposure of just over a minute. In this case, the castle projections were stable enough (they usually change faster) that I like the way the finished product turned out.
While visiting the Magic Kingdom earlier this month I made a point to see Wishes as often as possible. I'm sure the new evening show will be spectacular, but it will be difficult to make sure it has the same heart as Wishes.
Fireworks Friday! Another shot from the Odyssey Bridge a fw nights after Christmas. Thanks for looking.
I really enjoyed shooting the holiday edition of IllumiNations when I was down last year in December. I didn't, however, realize how much it added to the display. It rather startled me when IllumiNations ended more quickly than I had anticipated. However, I was able to get some great low shots, as that's one of the wonderful thing about IllumiNations: a lot of the action takes place close to the water. I'd love to shoot this with a bit of a wider lens, though, to see if I could capture more of what's happening reflected in the water!
All said and done, though, this shot is truly a favorite of mine due to the variety of colors I found. It's not often that I find teal fireworks, so that really drew my eye upon review. Last year, I shot from the Rose and Crown, this year I was stationed just outside Italy. I like how, if you really look, you can see the dock-pillars that the gondolas tie up to silhouetted at the bottom of the frame. It's a subtle hint that takes a couple views to see!
Happily Ever After, the new fireworks show in the Magic Kingdom in Disney World, isn't quite as likely to blow out your photos during the finale. Still, it's a visually spectacular show, with ample opportunities for interesting photographs.
I shot the show a few times last week, including once with a neutral density filter (as in this shot). Generally speaking, however, I think the show is better suited to shoot without the filter. You won't capture as many bursts, but will get a clearer look the the different projections on the castle.
Golden fireworks burst over the Beast's castle in the New Fantasyland section of Walt Disney World during the nightly "Wishes" fireworks show.
I didn't have a full tripod with me, so I mounted a little plastic "ultrapod" precariously on a nearby lamp-post to manage a reasonably long exposure. It kept shifting around, but I did get several shots I was pleased with in the end.
It's nice to have another castle to shoot fireworks over at WDW!

For fireworks friday and in honor of the 1st game of the 2014 MLB playoffs for the St. Louis Cardinals tonight, here is a shot from the fireworks show that followed the Cards' game on July 4th this year. The fireworks show wasn't the most amazing I've seen, but the cool part was they were shot from all around the stadium so you had a good view from wherever you sat.
Enjoy. Thanks for your views, comments, & favs!
Oh and... Go Cardinals!
Happy Fireworks Friday! Yeah I fudged the Mickey. My clunky thumbs overshot the 4 second mark so there's a bonus burst on top.
Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular does not refer to your typical Hollywood stars. But it's in "Hollywood" and it's about wars in the stars. Grab a beverage from the Tune-In Lounge and enjoy the show.
My second keeper from the 25th Anniversary fireworks show for DHS, I was worried I didn't close the shutter in time with those super bright white flares across the middle. When I peeked at it after the show I was delighted to see they hadn't washed out the shot, and when I got home was very surprised to see they actually made for some great points of light.
I became inspired, after joining joining Flickr and reading other Disney photography blogs, to try shooting the fireworks shows on a recent trip to the world. My results weren't perfect, but it was a lot of fun. This picture is cropped because I blew the large bursts above the castle. I still love the colors. Happy Fireworks Friday everyone!
I decided to try something different for this week's #FireworksFriday. While I appreciate the colorful bursts that you can capture during Illuminations this scene and this location seemed more dramatic when the colors were removed. Let's see if anyone else agrees with me?
I posted the same photo with color on my Instagram account:
A few weeks ago, my Dad came down for a very big legal conference and stayed (with my Mom, who took some vacation time) at the Marriott World Center Drive. Though their room wasn't IDEALLY placed, I still managed to make it work one night and saw IllumiNations from a really unique perspective. Very happy with how this came out; it's nice to see a new view of something we see all the time!

My other shot from my second location after we were asked to move and not be a group by a CM.
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend.
This is from my second night in a row shooting from this spot. The night before was a smoke out as after 3 minutes you could no longer see the fireworks. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
Another shot (and my last) from the back of the Italy Pavilion. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
This has been a shot I've had in my head for a few months now. Originally I wanted to try to line up the angles when Sorcerer Mickey was out in front of Hollywood Studios. When the topiary was moved over to EPCOT for Flower and Garden, this shot materialized. Very happy with how it turned out.

It's been awhile since I've done a Fireworks Friday, not because I didn't have the shots, just because I simply forgot to process a fireworks shot! :P
As for the shot, this is a 3 shot HDR, processed with Camera Raw, masked in CS5, and finished in Nik Color Efex.
Please don't hesitate to tell me what you think, comments and constructive criticism are welcome and appreciated! :)
*This is one of those shots that looks better on black if you have a moment. To do so, just click on the picture! :)
Happy Fireworks Friday everybody, glad I was able to get a little bit of time this morning for Flickr. I feel like I have opened Lightroom in weeks. Another 8 inches of snow this morning so I am just taking a quick break from shoveling and wishing I was down in Florida :)
Just a reminder, WDW Photography is relaunching on Monday morning with a brand new design and features. Hope everybody has a great weekend, going to try to catch up on flickr the next few days.
I got to shoot the new Magic Kingdom fireworks show three times last month, each time moving progressively closer (as I arrived earlier to claim a spot and crowds eased a bit). On this day I was aided by the weather, as thunderstorms kept some people away from the Magic Kingdom, though a short, but strong shower just before the show started could have ended my plans for photos were it not for the kind umbrellas of strangers while I dug the ponchos for my camera and me out of my backpack!
As it turns out, it was one of the most fun nights I've had watching fireworks + thanks to the person in front of me with the colorful umbrella, I'll always have images to remind me of that night!
This was my first time shooting Believe... In Holiday Magic and the show seemed pretty sparse from here. There were a lot of gratuitous sprays, castle bursts and shooting stars, which will make for some great castle shots, but I have the feeling I'm not going to be bothering much with fireworks this season.
Fireworks Friday! Taken last month during Holiday Wishes. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
I wanted to set up for a shot straight down the middle of Hollywood Blvd., but I had to settle for an off-center view due to a merch cart. This view was actually surprisingly easy to get, I didn't have to camp out long at all.
After all the night photos this week, I thought I would change it up for Fireworks Friday. Have a great weekend everyone!

Is fireworks Friday still a thing? Well if it isn't, I guess I can just look like a old fogie.
I miss this show, and it's final song is a message of hope that feels extremely appropriate right now in these crazy times.
"We go on
To the joy and through the tears
We go on
To discover new frontiers
Moving on
With the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward, now as one
Moving on
With a spirit born to run
Ever on
With each rising sun.
To a new day
We go on."
Fireworks Friday! This was taken during the week that WDW showed the Disney's Celebrate America fireworks show the whole week of July 4th. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
I knew that if I headed up the entrance to Paradise Pier, I might be able to see Disneyland's fireworks from DCA. I wasn't specifically looking for them, but I was in the right place at the right time!

Here is my last one from the path between the Boardwalk and DHS. Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!
Illuminations from the Germany Pavilion from June - there was a different spot I wanted to try in Germany but it was roped off so this was the next best spot.
Here is a shot of Illuminations for Fireworks Friday as well as Freedom Friday.
This is a unique Friday for me since it will be my last day at my current job.
This job has been a great experience with a great team. However this job has been taking up a significant portion of my time outside of the workplace (thank you laptops and internet access). I can deal with overtime. That is a regular part of the accounting world, but there gets to be a point where it is taken to extremes and other areas of your life begin to suffer. My new job appears to be one where I can go home and be “home.” I will be able to spend time with my family and focus on other things that matter to me again, which will be nice. I might even start posting and commenting on Flickr again. We’ll see.
In the meantime happy Friday and my prayers go out to my friends on the Eastern seaboard. Keep your heads down this weekend. Hopefully Irene won’t be as bad as she looks right now. Also, hopefully, my parents and great aunt, who are at sea on their way to New York, will be able catch a flight home to Tampa before Irene hits.
Thanks for looking!
