a male Magnolia Warbler

I am working as a volunteer with the Toronto Birding Observatory a non profit organization that bands birds to help study migration patterns and the health of the general bird population.

I took a week off earlier to help because this is warbler season. We didn't catch a single warbler during my week off.....heard and saw them all around us but none in the net. Yesterday I was at the nets for eight hours and all we caught was a pair of white throated sparrows.

Today two hours in very near freezing and we caught this fellow, (we cheered :-) a pair of American Redstarts, an Ovenbird, a nuthatch and a chickadee.

Happy happy banders :)

I picked up two of these just yesterday at Target.

Nov.4, 2018: The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak, comprises a vast mix of temples, chapels, pylons, and other buildings near Luxor, in Egypt.

A cult temple dedicated to Amun, Mut and Khonsu. The largest religious building complex ever constructed. The temple of Karnak was known as Ipet-isu—or “most select of places”—by the ancient Egyptians. It is a city of temples built over 2,000 years and dedicated to the Theban triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu. This derelict place is still capable of overshadowing many wonders of the modern world and in its day must have been awe-inspiring.

For the largely uneducated ancient Egyptian population, this could only have been the place of the gods. It is the largest religious building ever made, covering about 200 acres (1.5 km by 0.8 km), and was a place of pilgrimage for nearly 2,000 years. The area of the sacred enclosure of Amun alone is sixty-one acres and could hold ten average European cathedrals. The great temple at the heart of Karnak is so big that St Peter’s, Milan, and Notre Dame Cathedrals would fit within its walls.

The Hypostyle hall, at 54,000 square feet (16,459 meters) and featuring 134 columns, is still the largest room of any religious building in the world. In addition to the main sanctuary there are several smaller temples and a vast sacred lake – 423 feet by 252 feet (129 by 77 meters). The sacred barges of the Theban Triad once floated on the lake during the annual Opet festival. The lake was surrounded by storerooms and living quarters for the priests, along with an aviary for aquatic birds.

The Egyptians believed that towards the end of annual agricultural cycle the gods and the earth became exhausted and required a fresh input of energy from the chaotic energy of the cosmos.

To accomplish this magical regeneration the Opet festival was held yearly at Karnak and Luxor. It lasted for twenty-seven days and was also a celebration of the link between pharaoh and the god Amun. The procession began at Karnak and ended at Luxor Temple, one and a half miles (2.4 kilometres) to the south.

The statue of the god Amun was bathed with holy water, dressed in fine linen, and adorned in gold and silver jewellery. The priests then placed the god in a shrine and onto the ceremonial barque supported by poles for carrying. Pharaoh emerged from the temple, his priests carrying the barque on their shoulders, and together they moved into the crowded streets. A troop of Nubian soldiers serving as guards beat their drums, and musicians accompanied the priests in song as incense filled the air.

At Luxor, Pharaoh and his priests entered the temple and ceremonies were performed to regenerate Amun, recreate the cosmos and transfer Amun’s power to Pharaoh. When he finally emerged from the temple sanctuary, the vast crowds cheered him and celebrated the guaranteed fertility of the earth and the expectation of abundant harvests.

During the festival the people were given over 11000 loaves of bread and more than 385 jars of beer, and some were allowed into the temple to ask questions of the god. The priests spoke the answers through a concealed window high up in the wall, or from inside hollow statues.

We've heard him for some time but never been able to spot him before. Lynda, out of the corner of her eye, saw a large bird fly into the woods behind the house, we searched and I happened to look up though a small hole in the foliage to see his perch quite a way away.. It was near dusk and the ISO was quite high and handheld so I couldn't remove all the noise...but, there he is!

The big guns finally arrived. His front wheels are off the ground, he's just driving on the rear wheels and the blade. This finally got the job done on our little 6-block-long street after two days of work. I have to cut Lexington a little slack for their handling of this one, this stuff is really hard to move.

This is necessary because school buses have to go down this street. As for our own cul de sac to the right, not so much .... so we still have that first hundred feet to get to this corner before we can get out. Just have to wait for warmer temperatures for that.

I am using my vintage 1980's PVC pipe quilt frame to hand quilt my queen size Double Wedding Ring quilt.

having these two together after long last has me so happy!

Not exciting for others but this is the first grab I've ever gotten with the Clyman coal tower in it.

They were hook up with a team of Belgians for a Demo at an Horse Expo in Ohio. The Clydesdales decided that they really did not want to do the demo and fooled around the whole demo, while the Belgians worked. Now after the demo the Clydesdales are working

Tulsa has been in a severe drought for the last few years. Yesterday we got more than a skiff. But as the thermometer shows, we were at the freezing mark. Today we have rain and sleet. Glad or the moisture, but darn.

FINALLY! I have been trying to capture a shot of a black squirrel for years! So many times I would be out on the bike trail, see one, stop and try to get a quick shot but nothing other than a tiny unrecognizable black blur. And I've even been to Maryville, Kansas, supposedly the "home of the black squirrel". No success there either.

And then today, as I focused my little old Sony on a flower in my yard... I heard a scrabbling noise. I looked up, and there he was. As I struggled to change the macro setting on my camera, he looked at me as if to say: "What are you waiting for?"

Artejia "Artsy" Clark finally arrives home on Christmas Eve after a busy long year choreographing Broadway shows and teaching hot new boy bands (Out of Sync on the Block) new steps along with her partner (business) Spencer "Sporty" Dane.

I now own a Nikon D3100 D-SLR... so long point-and-shoots!

After hours of delays, we're finally taking off! We missed our connecting flight in Chicago, but managed to get a flight out to Newark (which wasn't ideal, but at least we got home).

I called my assistant to bring my armor to the industrial park. It had finally ffinished the update of the software. I knew that he would ask questions but the memory altering ability is there.

Assist: Here it is. What are you going to do with it here?

Me: I have to test it.

When I had suited up, and the mask came on his eyes became bigger and he said

"You? You're EXO!

Me: Yes.

I put my hand infront of his face and then I activated it.

Assist: Where am I? What happened?

EXO: You are allright. There was a beating but I got here on time. You got hit in the head.

Looking Out...

I finally learned the importance of always having your camera with you. I was on my way out to run an errand when I noticed this huge buck along the side of our pond. I didn't have my camera with me! I cafefully yet quickly turned my car around and went inside to grab my camera. I was thrilled when I drove back by that it was still just laying there! I took a few shots looking out my car window and left for my errands.

At first I thought that I was "Looking Out" at him, but after looking at my shots, I think he was "Looking Out" at me!

Molly has been asking for a frog Pillow Pet for months. It was sold out at Christmas, so she finally got one for her birthday. A great posed smile from her, huh!

This night started off with too many drunk people, and all I wanted to do was take pictures, so I escaped at first moonlight

I finally got this guy! It's the one I have wanted since I first saw series 4! I recently figured out how to feel the packs to determine what is in them and I was successful on my last 4 tries! I am a pack feeling master! That sounds kinda perverted but i don't care! I don't have to worry about getting duplicates anymore! Unless I want to!

I finished this little sweater a long time ago. I think the calendar may still have read "2007." And then it sat and waited, and waited for buttons. Which I finally added this week, using EZ's "afterthought buttonhole" method, with not entirely satisfactory results. But you can't see how ugly the buttonholes are when it's buttoned up! It's a short cropped sweater, the very bottom is at the bottom of the picture. The idea was to make a fitted, cropped, long-sleeve version of a the green one I did last year.

I wanted to do this for years - and it´s very tricky to execute - For those of you who ever tried their luck on the moon - you know why - the moon is fast as a pinball!

My first Six-Spot Burnet this year, Zygaena filipendulae, I always look forward to seeing these colourful characters.

D90, insert split-prism screen, focus way off, fiddle with, scuff screen beyond recognition, get katzeye screen, fiddle with metal shims and 3M tape. Rinse and repeat 8 times; finally get close enough, then do small adjustments using the MF cam under the mirror.

That was a lot harder than it should be.

Finally clearing out the doll room, deciding which to trade or put up for adoption. So hoping to avoid evilbay.

That commuter was a nice catch, but where was the Chief, it should have been here a good ten minutes ago! I was beginning to worry that it was being held for connections (a not unusual occurrence) meaning that the NYC train was being held even later! I am beginning to believe that railfanning would probably be a great hobby for conspiracy theorists! It turned out that I was worrying about nothing because a few minutes later someone with a scanner reported that the NYC train had been given a go to head east. Good news except that the Fairview crossovers were set to switch it from M2 to M3, making an already dicey light situation even worse! With a distinct feeling of déjà vu I trooped west across Fairview Ave to set up where I could catch the action while it was still on M2, just like I’d done with my very first train of the day.

I finally had enough Baron Karza's to make this set. I made the heads a long time ago so it was nice to finally get this monkey off my back. I really like this color set.

The heads are actually in CLEAR black. But they are so black, you cant tell. Except with the Emperor. If you shine a light behind his head you can see through his helmet extensions.

I have one more set of Magnos yet to make. The Black w/White hilights Magno Set. I have the white cast parts already made from a few years back...just waiting.

I have had some parts for as long as 8 years because that's how long it took me to get to it for various other projects. lol.

3/3/08 - Polaroid 680 SE w/ 600 film

After yearning for many, many years, today I finally got a Polaroid 680. A little late in the game I suppose, what with the Polaroid announcement and all, but eh, I don't care, better late than never. And it was a good situation. I'm always hesitant to spend $$ on eBay on cameras that aren't guaranteed, but in my perusal of auctions this morning, I came across one located right here in Santa Fe. So Will and I went out and met the dude, tested the camera, wheeled and dealed, and that was that. Couldn't have asked for more instant gratification! And it is a pretty sweet camera. I am a happy girl. Blurry perhaps, but happy.

Glued the body together.
