I found this place on Google Earth several months ago and it has been at the top of my list to go and see. My recent trip to the Smoky Hills of Kansas with F-Stop Philm. Finally gave me the opportunity to see it. The old two story wooden farmstead is situated on some of the most beautiful land in Kansas. The Smoky Hills have to be experienced in all four seasons to truly appreciate them. Image made with a Pentax K30 Sigma 70 - 200 mm F2,8 lens.
After working sporadically on this quilt for over a year, I finished it the day after Thanksgiving. Just couldn't decide what I wanted to do with large Japanese Box patchwork squares until I put appliqued Morning Glories with leaves on it. Hand appliqued and machine pieced. Machine quilted 84" x 68". Nov. 2024

I got out this morning to wander around Mill Lake to see what wildlife survived all the snow and cold weather. I spotted this Northern Flicker doing some preening and stretching.
This catbird has been serenading for years in the same place....near the observation deck. Catbirds seem to like people but on their own terms....always just out of sight. He finally dropped his guard the other day, and I caught him. Sort of...... lol
One train ahead of 7E25 was 6E68 12:45 March Down RS to Tunstead Sdgs Fhh headed by 66415. It looks like the embankment works on Dore West Curve are finally finished after several years of work.
Think the woods need exploring more before the vegetation grows back up.

340 had some issues climbing Byron Hill. After taking the DP unit from another train, that DP unit is now the leader of 340 and 3 or 4 hours later they finally make the hill. On the other end, a set of BLE tunnel motors as shovers. The Hoar frost made the drab day beautiful.

After a week of boring, solid blue skies over Lake Tahoe, a great sky finally rolled in a couple nights ago and I got in a few hours of really good shooting. This is just a little north of Sand Harbor. I think that this area, in the northeast corner of the lake has the prettiest rocky coastline in the entire lake.
After almost a week of doom and gloom the weather was finally supposed to break all over the deep south on Friday. My wife agreed to give me the one sunny day of our vacation to do some train stuff. Since it was more or less on the way back towards Nashville, where we were flying out on Sunday, I decided to head for Columbus, Mississippi. The weather was perfect, but of course the Golden Triangle Railroad showed up light engines. The good news was according to the C&G dispatcher there were cars for them to pick up. After switching in the yard for a while they came back out light engine again and ran west to the Weyerhaeuser CMF plant west of town on the KCS/C&G line. After switching the plant they came out with a train of empty boxes for the International Paper mill on the GTRA line. The GTRA is operated by Patriot Rail and runs a 10 mile line of their own and also has trackage rights east over KCS/C&G to downtown Columbus and west to the CMF plant. In this shot they are eastbound on the KCS/C&G line headed back to their own line from the CMF plant. For roster geeks I'm pretty sure the GP38-2's came from Weyerhaeuser's Chehalis Western Railroad.

I finally made it over to Lake Shore Park, in Newark, hoping to find baby egrets & herons...they were everywhere, at all stages and delightful to watch. As usual, in a rookery situation, there is so much noise and the smell...well, you can image! Talking to a woman that lives here, she said they stay year round because living was pretty good in this location. The concern with the people living in this neighborhood, besides the obvious, is that their urine and such is killing the vegetation.
Finally made it to hospitals for the first time this morning. I don't know what else to say but yeah wow.
Finally finished my Blade Runner minifigure after so long! Thanks to Keith and Julie Nelson for the "M2019" pistol from the movie! Figure is fully painted by me (except the face). Hope you enjoy!
I finally have a new computer that I can see more easily. I tried out one and then traded up. Each time, transferring my photos has been an ordeal. Not much is blooming here yet. Usually things start to pop after Patriot's Day which is Monday.
Lake Erie has finally given up it's ice. but now there is no beach left just rocks and water. Still looks great though...

Good morning everyone. Back to nature shots today with my first pics of a Black Swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes asterius) for 2018. Finally like the title states as it was a long time coming. Up until just recently this species of swallowtail was strangely among the missing.
