FInally some sun!
After almost a week of doom and gloom the weather was finally supposed to break all over the deep south on Friday. My wife agreed to give me the one sunny day of our vacation to do some train stuff. Since it was more or less on the way back towards Nashville, where we were flying out on Sunday, I decided to head for Columbus, Mississippi. The weather was perfect, but of course the Golden Triangle Railroad showed up light engines. The good news was according to the C&G dispatcher there were cars for them to pick up. After switching in the yard for a while they came back out light engine again and ran west to the Weyerhaeuser CMF plant west of town on the KCS/C&G line. After switching the plant they came out with a train of empty boxes for the International Paper mill on the GTRA line. The GTRA is operated by Patriot Rail and runs a 10 mile line of their own and also has trackage rights east over KCS/C&G to downtown Columbus and west to the CMF plant. In this shot they are eastbound on the KCS/C&G line headed back to their own line from the CMF plant. For roster geeks I'm pretty sure the GP38-2's came from Weyerhaeuser's Chehalis Western Railroad.
