Another one of my Iceland shots. I noticed the aperture was a bit fast, but none the less I think this shot turned out quite nice. Stay tuned for more! Thanks and enjoy!
Bombus campestris
Male - Yellow form
There are several different colour forms of the males of this cuckoo bee. This yellow tailed one and a melanistic mostly black one (previous picture).
The long downward curved abdomen and lack of red at the very tip of the tail help to distinguish it from the similar looking Forest Cuckoo Bee (Bombus sylvestris) that I posted photos of earlier in the year.
The Cuckoo Bumblebees do not build their own nest rather use a host Bumblebee species and lay their eggs in their nest instead.

Still more from 'A Poppy Field' Archive - just a couple more left now, but this really is the last of the slidefilm variations.
Along my local walk I pass through a wheat field. It seems to grow very quickly. Not long ago there was nothing to see and now it is full of wheat.
Another shot from the Arun valley on that lovely morning last weekend before the weather broke to its usual autumnal pattern
It has been one of the hottest summers here down under with hard to fight bush fires in tinder dry conditions in the north of our South Island. This photo is taken near Waipiata inland from our city and so far from a town that there was once a borstal (youth detention/ correction centre or prison) that had no walls as there was no where to run to.
