Der Fernsehturm Heidelberg ist ein Sendeturm des Südwestrundfunks (SWR) für Hörfunk und Fernsehen auf dem Königstuhl.
Von der Anlage werden vier UKW-Hörfunkprogramme des SWR, zwei landesweite DAB-Ensembles der Digital Radio Südwest auf Kanal 11 B mit 10 kW, der bundesweite DAB-Multiplex auf Kanal 5 C mit 10 kW, sowie das DVB-T-Angebot von ARD/SWR und ZDF abgestrahlt.
Wegen der exponierten Lage des Standorts ist der Turm selbst nur 82 m hoch (ca. 570 m über Seehöhe, 430 m über der Rheinebene). Die Sender versorgen fast den gesamten nordbadischen Raum, die Vorderpfalz und Südhessen (Region Rhein-Neckar).
In 30 m Höhe besitzt der 1958 errichtete Turm eine unverglaste Aussichtsplattform, die mit Hilfe eines Aufzugs erreicht werden kann. Der Turm wird momentan saniert, und die Plattform ist seit 2002 für den Publikumsverkehr geschlossen. Der SWR, der den Turm von der Stadt Heidelberg gekauft hat, sieht derzeit keine Wiedereröffnung der Aussichtsplattform vor. Daneben wurde der Turm bis 2002 auch noch als Wasserturm genutzt. Der Wasserbehälter befindet sich in der Turmkanzel.
Auf dem Königstuhl befinden sich außerdem noch in unmittelbarer Nähe des Fernsehturms ein etwas höherer Fernmeldeturm der Deutschen Telekom sowie ein ehemaliger Fernmeldeturm der US-Armee, der Ende der 1950er Jahre erbaut wurde und Mitte 2007 an das Land Baden-Württemberg zurückgegeben wurde.

For the same reasons, the structure was also called "St. Walter" (from Walter Ulbricht).
U.S. President Ronald Reagan mentioned this phenomenon in his "Tear down this wall" speech on 12 June 1987:[3]
"Years ago, before the East Germans began rebuilding their churches, they erected a secular structure: the television tower at Alexanderplatz. Virtually ever since, the authorities have been working to correct what they view as the tower's one major flaw: treating the glass sphere at the top with paints and chemicals of every kind. Yet even today when the sun strikes that sphere, that sphere that towers over all Berlin, the light makes the sign of the cross. There in Berlin, like the city itself, symbols of love, symbols of worship, cannot be suppressed."

The Fernsehturm (German for "television tower") is a television tower in the city centre of Berlin, Germany. This well-known landmark, close to Alexanderplatz, was constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). The GDR administration intended it as a symbol of Berlin, which it remains today, as it is easily visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin.
The original total height of the tower was 365 metres (1198 feet), but it rose to 368 m (1207 ft) after the installation of a new antenna in the 1990s. The Fernsehturm is the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe, after Moscow's Ostankino Tower, the Kiev TV Tower and the Riga Radio and TV Tower. There is a visitor platform and a rotating restaurant in the middle of the sphere. The visitor platform is at a height of about 204 m (669 ft) above the ground and visibility can reach 42 km (26 miles) on a clear day. The restaurant, which rotates once every 30 minutes, is a few metres above the visitors platform (originally it turned once per hour; the speed was later doubled following the tower's late 1990s renovation).
