217m above ground. I love these pulsing red anti-collision lights. I need one of these for my balcony.

Why these fences? We're not animals.

Just remove these fences. Just ask at the register when people buy a ticket... "are you going to jump? Are you? Because you look a little crazy. You look a little depressed. If you are going to jump the price is going up. €9 for a non jump ticket. €9000 for a jump. We accept credit card and a nice sturdy (closed) fernseturm coffin is included. Whats it gonna be? Our psychologist is here on Monday. It's free."

The Fernsehturm in central Berlin was constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the government of the German Democratic Republic, or East Germany, as both a functional broadcasting facility and a symbol of Communist power.

It remains a landmark today from its position next to Alexanderplatz in the city's Marien Quarter, part of the district of Mitte, visible across most suburban districts of Berlin. With its height to 368 metres (1,207 ft) (including antenna) it is the tallest structure in Germany, and the third-tallest structure in the European Union. When built it was the fourth-tallest freestanding structure in the world after the Empire State Building and 875 North Michigan Avenue, then known as The John Hancock Center

Berlin-Mitte 02-2016

In 1964, Walter Ulbricht, leader of the Socialist Unity Party which governed East Germany, decided to allow the construction of a television tower on Alexanderplatz, modelled on the Fernsehturm Stuttgart and the first artificial Earth satellite, Sputnik. The original total height of the tower was 365 metres, but it rose to 368 metres after the installation of a new antenna in the 1990s. The Fernsehturm is the fourth tallest freestanding structure in Europe, after Moscow's Ostankino Tower, the Kiev TV Tower and the Riga Radio and TV Tower.

I took this photo somewhere near the Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer, the part of the Berlin Wall that has been conserved as a memorial. The Fernsehturm (television tower) was built by the East German government in the 1960s.
