The Gannett Building is home to the Democrat and Chronicle, which is the most widely circulated daily newspaper in the greater Rochester, NY area and traces its roots back to 1833. It is owned by the Gannett Corporation. This Classical Revival style building was designed by Howell & Thomas in 1928 and was fashioned after the Pittsburg Press Building. It features a bas relief stone sculpture created by noted Italian sculptor Edmond Amateis. The five story addition was designed by Albert Kahn to house the printing presses. Now a little bit of history: the earliest history goes back to 1833, to a paper called "The Balance", it's name was later changed to the "Daily Democrat" around 1840. That paper then merged with another local paper, the "Chronicle" in1870 and was renamed the "Democrat and Chronicle. The paper was closely idenified with the Whigs and then the Republican Party. That changed for a time when Frank Gannett bought the paper as a morning alternative to his own Rochester-Times Union in 1928. He soon soon threw his support to FDR (during his early presidential years) however by 1940, the editorial slant returned to a Republican point of view. After Gannett's death in 1957 the paper moved to a non-partisan stance. This building opened in 1928, on Exhange Boulevard, housing Gannett's corporate headquarters, printing presses and newsroom for the now defunct Rochester Times-Union. Democrat and Chronicle staffers moved into the building in 1959. Editorial operations were combined with the Times-Union in 1922, leading to the shuttering of the evening paper in 1997, the same year that the new color presses were opened at Canal Ponds Office Park in Greece. Though Gannett moved its corporate headquarters from Rochester to Arlington,Virginia in 1985 (home of Gannett's USA Today) decisions about the Rochester operation continued to be made locally. A renovation of the main newsgathering and business offices at Exchange Blvd. was completed in 2006. The Democrat and Chronicle continues to occupy the historic Gannett Building. UPDATE: January 18, 2013 - The Gannett owned Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reported that the Gannett Newspaper building will be sold and that the Democrat and Chronicle Media Group will seek a new home for its news and business operations in the city. The building is located at 55 Exchange Blvd in Rochester, NY.

Built in 1888.

"Cabbagetown is a neighbourhood in central Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Administratively, it is defined as part of the Cabbagetown-South St. Jamestown neighbourhood. It largely features semi-detached Victorian houses and is recognized as "the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian housing in all of North America", according to the Cabbagetown Preservation Association.

Cabbagetown's name derives from the Irish immigrants who moved to the neighbourhood beginning in the late 1840s, said to have been so poor that they grew cabbage in their front yards. Canadian writer Hugh Garner's novel, Cabbagetown, depicted life in the neighbourhood during the Great Depression.

Toronto (/təˈrɒntoʊ/ tə-RON-toh; locally [təˈɹɒɾ̃ə] or [ˈtɹɒɾ̃ə]) is the capital city of the Canadian province of Ontario. With a recorded population of 2,794,356 in 2021, it is the most populous city in Canada and the fourth most populous city in North America. The city is the anchor of the Golden Horseshoe, an urban agglomeration of 9,765,188 people (as of 2021) surrounding the western end of Lake Ontario, while the Greater Toronto Area proper had a 2021 population of 6,712,341. Toronto is an international centre of business, finance, arts, sports and culture, and is recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world.

Indigenous peoples have travelled through and inhabited the Toronto area, located on a broad sloping plateau interspersed with rivers, deep ravines, and urban forest, for more than 10,000 years. After the broadly disputed Toronto Purchase, when the Mississauga surrendered the area to the British Crown, the British established the town of York in 1793 and later designated it as the capital of Upper Canada. During the War of 1812, the town was the site of the Battle of York and suffered heavy damage by American troops. York was renamed and incorporated in 1834 as the city of Toronto. It was designated as the capital of the province of Ontario in 1867 during Canadian Confederation. The city proper has since expanded past its original limits through both annexation and amalgamation to its current area of 630.2 km2 (243.3 sq mi).

The diverse population of Toronto reflects its current and historical role as an important destination for immigrants to Canada. More than half of residents were born outside of Canada, more than half of residents belong to a visible minority group, and over 200 distinct ethnic origins are represented among its inhabitants. While the majority of Torontonians speak English as their primary language, over 160 languages are spoken in the city. The mayor of Toronto is elected by direct popular vote to serve as the chief executive of the city. The Toronto City Council is a unicameral legislative body, comprising 25 councillors since the 2018 municipal election, representing geographical wards throughout the city.

Toronto is a prominent centre for music, theatre, motion picture production, and television production, and is home to the headquarters of Canada's major national broadcast networks and media outlets. Its varied cultural institutions, which include numerous museums and galleries, festivals and public events, entertainment districts, national historic sites, and sports activities, attract over 43 million tourists each year. Toronto is known for its many skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, in particular the tallest free-standing structure on land outside of Asia, the CN Tower.

The city is home to the Toronto Stock Exchange, the headquarters of Canada's five largest banks, and the headquarters of many large Canadian and multinational corporations. Its economy is highly diversified with strengths in technology, design, financial services, life sciences, education, arts, fashion, aerospace, environmental innovation, food services, and tourism. Toronto is the third-largest tech hub in North America after Silicon Valley and New York City, and the fastest growing." - info from Wikipedia.

The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

On this trip I had a surprise 4 day layover in Toronto.

The Sea Rabbit (Monafluffchus americanus) of Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York – This unique sea-dwelling rabbit, which is actually a close relative of the sea lion, was officially discovered and investigated by Henry Hudson when he first visited this land to colonize the area by order of the Dutch government. It was named New Amsterdam -- today’s New York City. This island was named after he saw the beach covered with strange swimming wild rabbits. The word “Coney Island” means “wild rabbit island” in Dutch (originally Conyne Eylandt, or Konijneneiland in modern Dutch spelling). Sea rabbits were also referred mermaid rabbit, merrabbit, rabbit fish or seal rabbit in the natural history documents in the 17th century. The current conservation status, or risk of extinction, of the sea rabbit is Extinct in the Wild.

This website features two species of sea rabbits, which have been taken care of by Dr. Takeshi Yamada (山田武司) at the Coney Island Sea Rabbit Repopulation Center, which is a part of the Marine biology department of the Coney Island University in Brooklyn, New York. They are – Coney Island Sea Rabbit (Monafluffchus americanus) called “Seara” and Coney Island Tiger-striped Sea Rabbit (Monafluffchus konjinicus) called “Stripes”.

The photographs and videos featured in this website chronicle adventures of the Coney Island sea rabbits and the world as seen by them. This article also documented efforts of Dr. Takeshi Yamada for bringing back the nearly extinct sea rabbits to Coney Island in the City of New York and beyond. Dr. Yamada produced a series of public lectures, workshops, original public live interactive fine art performances and fine art exhibitions about sea rabbits at a variety of occasions and institutions in the City of New York and beyond. Dr. Yamada is an internationally active educator, book author, wildlife conservationist and high profile artist, who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Sea Rabbit

Other Common Names: Coney Island Sea Rabbit, Beach Rabbit, Seal Rabbit, mer-rabbit, merrabbit, Atlantic Sea Rabbit.

Latin Name: Monafluffchus americanus

Origin: Atlantic coast of the United States

Description of the specimen: In the early 17th century’s European fur craze drove the fleet of Dutch ships to the eastern costal area of America. Then Holland was the center of the world just like the Italy was in the previous century. New York City was once called New Amsterdam when Dutch merchants landed and established colonies. Among them, Henry Hudson is probably the most recognized individual in the history of New York City today. “This small island is inhabited by two major creatures which we do not have in our homeland. The one creature is a large arthropod made of three body segments: the frontal segment resembles a horseshoe, the middle segment resembles a spiny crab and its tail resembles a sharp sword. Although they gather beaches here in great numbers, they are not edible due to their extremely offensive odor. Another creature which is abundant here, has the head of wild rabbit. This animal of great swimming ability has frontal legs resemble the webbed feet of a duck. The bottom half of the body resembles that of a seal. This docile rabbit of the sea is easy to catch as it does not fear people. The larger male sea rabbits control harems of 20 to 25 females. The meat of the sea rabbit is very tender and tasty.” This is what Hadson wrote in his personal journal in 1609 about the horseshoe crab and the sea rabbit in today’s Coney Island area of Brooklyn, New York. Sadly, just like the Dodo bird and the Thylacine, the sea rabbit was driven to extinction by the European settlers’ greed. When Dutch merchants and traders arrived here, sea rabbits were one of the first animals they hunted down to bring their furs to homeland to satisfy the fur craze of the time. To increase the shipment volume of furs of sea rabbit and beavers from New Amsterdam, Dutch merchants also started using wampum (beads made of special clam shells) as the first official currency of this country.

At the North Eastern shores of the United States, two species of sea rabbits were commonly found. They are Coney Island Sea Rabbit (Monafluffchus americanus) and Coney Island Tiger-striped Sea Rabbit (Monafluffchus konjinicus). Sadly, due to their over harvesting in the previous centuries, their conservation status became “Extinct in the Wild” (ET) in the Red List Endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Currently, these sea rabbits are only found at breeding centers at selected zoos and universities such as Coney Island Aquarium and Coney Island University in Brooklyn, New York. The one shown in this photograph was named "Seara" and has been cared by Dr. Takeshi Yamada at Coney Island University.

The sea rabbit is one of the families of the Pinniped order. Pinnipeds (from Latin penna = flat and pes/pedis = foot) are sea-mammals: they are homeothermic (i.e having high and regulated inner temperature), lung-breathing (i.e dependant on atmospheric oxygen) animals having come back to semi aquatic life. As soon as they arrive ashore, females are caught by the nearest adult male. Males can maintain harems of about 20 females on average. Several hours to several days after arriving ashore, pregnant females give birth to eight to ten pups with a dark brown fur. As soon as birth occurs, the mother’s special smell and calls help her pups bond specifically to her. The mother stays ashore with her pup for about one week during which the pup gains weight. During the first week spent with her newborn, the mother becomes receptive. She will be impregnated by the bull, which control the harem. Implantation of the embryo will occur 3 months later, in March-April. During the reproductive period, the best males copulate with several tens females. To do so, males have to stay ashore without feeding in order to keep their territory and their harem. In mid-January, when the last females have been fecundated, males leave at sea to feed. Some of them will come back later in March-April for the moult. The other ones will stay at sea and will come back on Coney Island only in next November. After fecundation, the mother goes at sea for her first meal. At sea, mothers feed on clams, crabs, shrimps, fish (herring, anchovy, Pollock, capelin etc.) and squids. When she is back, the mother recovers her pups at the beach she left them. Suckling occurs after auditive and olfactory recognition had occured. In March-April, the dark brown fur is totally replaced by an adult-like light brownish grey fur during the moult that lasts 1-2 months. This new fur is composed by 2 layers. Externally, the guard fur is composed by flat hairs that recover themselves when wet. By doing so, they make a water-proof barrier for the under fur. The underfur retains air when the seal is dry. Because of isolating properties of the air, the underfur is the insulating system of the fur. In March-April, the fur of adults is partially replaced. First reproduction occurs at 1-yr old in females. Males are physiologically matures at 1 year old but socially matures at +2 years old.

NOTE: The name of Coney Island is commonly thought to be derived from the Dutch Konijn Eylandt or Rabbit Island as apparently the 17th century European settlers noted many rabbits running amuck on the island.

(Updated April 7B, 2015)

So I resculpted Acoe's features, and she's primed and needs a few more sand-and-coat sessions, but I'm happy with her for now. I did a silly little mockup of a face, and I think she's going to look super cute. I'm so proud of her and I only hope that I can finish her. I want one!! XD

To avoid confusion, the grey is not the skin colour but the primer I spray on to fill in scratches and smooth the surface. I use a car surface primer spray (an acrylic one, easy to find at a car store, you're looking for surface primer. Just don't get spray on putty, too thick lol. I also recommend getting a hobby primer too, just for the last few coats. I like Mr Surfacer.)

I've also decided to change the size of her body. She was going to be about 35cm, but I think she'll end up being just a really skinny MSD, at around 40-45cm. She'll have yosd sized feet but I'm thinking of either MSD sized feet too, so that she can wear all sorts of shoes. When she was to be a tiny she would have come with yosd and pullip/momoko sized shoes, but I think the latter would be too small if if she was going to be taller.

She has a 5-6inch head and she's closer the 5 than 6 so she might even wear 4-5 stretchy wigs. She's going to have a long, thin torso, but won't look as though she hasn't eaten. She'll look like it's her body type. and she'll have a cute tummy with obvious hips. Acoe (this face mold's name) will also come with the option of being a boy - he can come with a flat chest and a boy torso, or a flat chest and a girl torso, or a large chest and a girl torso... or a boy tosro if you want, I'm happy to cast whatever, considering the pieces will be separate. The limbs will be the same on the boy and girl, and both should come with open hands, and fist hands, and maybe sleeping/relaxed hands, as I hope to do a sleeping face. I'm also thinking about a dreaming elf head, with claw hands. That'd be good fun to sculpt.

Anyway, so I'm thinking, for the whole doll, around $400 without a faceup? faceups would be around $50 I think, no customs sorry though! Just a variety of say three or four looks to choose from. There will be faceup options because I will be very sick of the same faceup. The dolls will also be very limited in numbers, but only by preorder. Say, 10 or so until I can get enough to have Dollshe cast them etc. But there will be multiple preorders, so there aren't any limits as much as it's my own limitations.

Would you buy her/him - available in white and normal skin, and maybe tan? (though tan would be a bit extra)

I've really surprised myself with it all, and I am so enthusiastic about it. This is going to happen, so prepare yourselves. I'm also not sure what to call my company, though I know I'd like to call Acoe's size my Wanderlings, as the dolls will have a sort of vague story together, in that they are a kind of people who don't live in one place, they just keep moving. At least, those are the Wanderling. I want the whole theme to be very earthy, like nomadic hippies? Yeah XD

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated, and I'm sure I can do something for anyone who can manage to spark my imagination. I'm also sorry for disappearing, i'm quite sick with a bad chest/head cold and my net went down and is now capped, so it's all just been a week of shit luck.

AGAIN. FACEUP IS FOR FUN LOL. To give you an idea of what she'd look like with a face. NOT GREY SKIN. THAT'S THE PRIMER. Okay. love you guys! You're so smart, you know what primer is! Thanks for looking, and I hope you like her (and/or can appreciate my feeble skill mongering XD)

I also bled on her which means she's real artsy and shit now. Pain means I tried. Blood means I FOUGHT FOR IT. And made a bit of a mess.

(doll head by me! WOO I AM FREAKING STOKED OMG HOW DID I MANAGE THIS. I MADE STILL LIFE)

Opened in 1927, this Spanish Colonial Revival-style hotel was designed by Warren & Wetmore for the Territorial Hotel Company as a luxury resort hotel for tourists, and was heavily inspired by the work of Rudolph Valentino. One of the most iconic buildings on Waikiki, the hotel has evolved over time due to changes in social attitudes, expectations, and economic conditions, but the original building in the complex is very well preserved. Replacing the previous Honolulu Seaside Hotel, which opened around the turn of the 20th Century, and was originally surrounded by a 15-acre garden, with the H-shaped hotel featuring 400 rooms with bathrooms and balconies, and opened to great fanfare on February 1, 1927, with a black tie gala attended by 1,200 guests commemorating the occasion. The Territorial Hotel Company went bankrupt during the Great Depression, with ownership then coming under the Matson Navigation Company in 1932. The hotel continued to serve well-heeled visitors until World War II, when it was utilized as an R&R Center by the United States Military, and was surrounded by a Concertina wire barricade during this time. Following the end of the war, the hotel resumed its normal service, and regained its status as a popular accommodation for wealthy and well-to-do travelers. In 1959, the hotel was sold to Sheraton Hotels and Resorts by Matson, which divested itself from its Waikiki hotels at this time. The hotel features a picturesquely asymmetrical pink stucco-clad exterior with a low-slope roof enclosed by a low parapet wall at the perimeter, green tile hipped roofs on some of the towers, lanais with arched openings and orthogonal columns, decorative trimwork at the towers, corners, and gable parapets of the building, a large Spanish Mission belfry atop a tower at the center of the building, a smaller belfry on a corner tower on the land side of the building, and potted plants in curved notches in the rooftop parapets. The building’s interior features a long corridor on the first floor open to the ocean with decorative pilasters, textured plaster walls and ceilings, arches, and tile floors, a lobby with arches, columns, pilasters, and wainscoting, staircases with quarry tile risers and treads, decorative painted Spanish-style ceilings with decorative beams in the lounge on the ocean side of the hotel, and beautiful stone floors on the lanais around the building’s exterior. The building was extended in the mid-20th Century with the addition of a series of one-story wings housing the monarch room and additional service and amenity space on the ocean side of the hotel, as well as the addition of the modern Royal Hawaiian Tower Wing in 1969 immediately Diamond Head of the historic hotel, which features a small pool in the courtyard between it and the older hotel building. The hotel was purchased in 1974 by Kyo-ya Company Ltd, led by Japanese businessmen Kenji Osano and Masakuni Osano, and was later inherited by Takamasa Osano. In 1980, the Royal Hawaiian Center was opened along the Kalakaua Avenue frontage of the hotel property, housing various retail and restaurant offerings in the increasingly built-up Waikiki. The hotel was extensively renovated between 2008 and 2010, restoring the exterior and common spaces, and updating the guest accommodations. One of the most iconic hotel properties in Hawaii and in the United States as a whole, the Royal Hawaiian is a member of the Historic Hotels of America, though it is not listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel remains one of the most prestigious hotels in Hawaii, and has been nicknamed the "The Pink Palace of the Pacific" for its color and distinctive architecture.

The Mandarin's House has the characteristics of traditional Guangdong's residences. Yet, it also features a fusion of architectural influences from western cultures, making it a unique product of Chinese and western cultural interchange. The Mandarin's House has high humanistic values. Zheng Guanying , a late-Qing celebrity, completed the acclaimed masterpiece Shengshi Weiyan (Words of Warning in Times of Prosperity) in this house.

Zheng Wenrui, the father of Zheng Guanying , initiated the building of the Mandarin's House . Following the couplets inside the house, the construction work might have started by the eighth year of the reign of Emperor Tongzhi, i.e. year 1869.The expansions were done by Zheng Guanying and his brothers, from which the complex gradually enlarged. In the past, the Mandarin's House had an unobstructed view towards the Inner Habour and the hills across the river; the hustle and bustle of boats and ships coming in and out of the habour was the picturesque scene inhabitants here once enjoyed.

The Mandarin's House is very large, occupying an area of 4000m2 on which are buildings and open spaces designed in various architectural styles. The entire complex has more than 60 rooms in total. A private residence for one family of such scale is rare in Macao. Around 1950's to 1960's, the descendents of the Zheng's family moved out to live in different places. The Mandarin's House was then rented out. At one time, there were more than 300 tenants packed inside the complex, constituting to poor living conditions. The carrying capacity of the complex was pushed to limits. Building modifications, on top of everyday wear and tear began to cause damage to the architecture. The lack of daily maintenance and fire attacks brought further destructions. When the government got proprietorship of the property in 2001, more than 80% of the architecture was suffering from different degrees of damage. Alterations done by tenants also brought challenges in recovering the original appearance of the mansion.

About Macau

Macau, also spelled Macao, along with Hong Kong, is one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China. It lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province to the north and facing the South China Sea to the east and south.

The territory's economy is heavily dependent on gambling and tourism, but also includes manufacturing. The world's most densely populated country, Macau is best known as Asia's largest destination for gambling taking in even more revenue than Las Vegas.

Macau was a Portuguese colony in 1887, and is both the first and last European colony in China. Portuguese traders first settled in Macau in the 16th century and subsequently administered the region until the handover on 20 December 1999. The Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration and the Basic Law of Macau stipulate that Macau operates with a high degree of autonomy until at least 2049, fifty years after the transfer.

Under the policy of "one country, two systems", the PRC's Central People's Government is responsible for the territory's defense and foreign affairs, while Macau maintains its own legal system, police force, monetary system, customs policy, and immigration policy. Macau participates in many international organizations and events that do not require members to possess national sovereignty. According to The World Factbook, Macau has the second highest life expectancy in the world

This box features a beautiful vintage cigar box style collage on the top of the lid, with Japanese Twilight imagery. A combination of handmade artisan papers, magazine paper scraps, and fine embossed foil papers were used to create an enticingly, mystical vignette in various shades of green and violet. Glowing green crystals of two sizes, are set atop the collage. The small beveled edge is done in a rich brown artisan paper with a mitered border, framing the collage smartly. The sides of the lid are covered in dark green and white magazine paper scraps.

The body of the box is done in our signature mosaic inlay paneling style, created with wrapping paper scraps, magazine paper scraps, foil paper and artisan paper, in hues of green and blue and brown. The bottom of this piece contains a magazine paper scrap image of the Japanese country side, and as always is, - signed, dated and numbered as one of a kind!

The interior walls and edges are covered in a fine embossed aqua foil paper, which is left unsealed so as not to disturb the foil finish. The bottom and top of the interior feature Japanese plant life images from magazine paper scraps. There is a hand framed rectangular glass mirror, up against the underside of the lid.The piece is sealed with a moderately glossy textured finish.

The box is 100% pine and functions on a set of two standard, brass mini hinges. We've installed a metal safety chain to prevent the box from opening past 90 degrees. The final aesthetic detail to this lovely piece is a vintage metal button with green enamel detail and a center rhinestone, that the we chose for a lid pull - a truly unique fixture!

The Merdarë crossing point features a sustainable urban drainage system, which uses gravel and the earth’s natural filtering qualities to remove oil and other byproducts that can spill onto the road from stationary vehicles. Once filtered, the drainage is naturally collected in a specially designed settlement pond which contains plants and filtered water that is so clean it has already attracted wildlife to its pondside.

Funded by the European Union Office in Kosovo, the Integrated Border Management (IBM) Kosovo Project, implemented by UNOPS, is establishing three common crossing points between Serbia and Kosovo.* The €11 million project aims to foster economic development as well as enhance regional cooperation, peace and stability.

Situated at Merdarë, Bërnjak and Mutivodë in Kosovo, the crossing points are being hosted and reconstructed in partnership with the government of Kosovo and the European Union Office in Kosovo. UNOPS is responsible for the design, construction, procurement and financial management activities for the facilities at each location. This includes the installation and relocation of essential infrastructure, including traffic infrastructure and bridges.

The facilities have been designed to meet European standards for integrated border management. The modern infrastructure will help facilitate institutional, operational and procedural reforms – facilitating free trade and the movement of goods and people. Upon completion, the three crossing point facilities will house 200 officers helping more than 1.5 million people safely cross between Kosovo and Serbia every year – more than 4,000 citizens on average every day.

Red Rock Canyon State Park features scenic desert cliffs, buttes and spectacular rock formations. The park is located where the southernmost tip of the Sierra Nevada converge with the El Paso Range. Each tributary canyon is unique, with dramatic shapes and vivid colors.

Historically, the area was once home to the Kawaiisu Indians, who left petroglyphs in the El Paso mountains and other evidence of their inhabitation. The spectacular gash situated at the western edge of the El Paso mountain range was on the Native American trade route for thousands of years. During the early 1870s, the colorful rock formations in the park served as landmarks for 20-mule team freight wagons that stopped for water. About 1850, it was used by the footsore survivors of the famous Death Valley trek including members of the Arcane and Bennett families along with some of the Illinois Jayhawkers. The park now protects significant paleontology sites and the remains of 1890s-era mining operations, and has been the site for a number of movies.

After wet winters, the park's floral displays are stunning. The beauty of the desert, combined with the geologic features make this park a camper's favorite destination. Wildlife you may encounter includes roadrunners, hawks, lizards, mice and squirrels.

The show also features Shakespearean puns as well as "additional dialogue" provided by two madcap Mineola residents determined to advance their own interests before the final curtain falls. The play is appropriate for audiences of all ages.

This park features lovely vistas of the Estuary, plenty of benches, a cute, boat-themed play structure for children. Unfortunately, it also features this terrifying Frankenwoman statue that used to sit outside of City Hall. Man, was I glad when they took that away. It celebrates notable women from Oakland by combining parts of their bodies into one tall, multicolored superwoman who has like, Isadora Duncan’s leg and Ina Coolbrith’s hand or something. I think it’s supposed to be inspiring, but honestly, I find it terrifying. Someone told me there’s going to be a much bigger version of it on Treasure Island, and I don’t know if that’s true or not, but if it is, I feel sorry for the people who live there.

Indoor Wall Water Fountain Feature - Features / Fountains

Add ambiance to any room with beautiful indoor wall fountains. We currently have many styles to choose from in a wide variety of frame materials and waterfall face choices. Our skilled artesians are adept at metal fabrication. The metals available for the frames on your water wall have been chosen for attractiveness, durability and ease of fabrication. The most common metals used are copper and stainless steel. The unique marbled or patina finish is applied to the copper of the indoor wall sculptures one piece at a time. A clear coating is then applied to the metal to give it a high gloss finish as well as to protect the copper from naturally developing a green patina over time. On some of our most recent water wall models we will even go further and apply custom artwork or custom patina shading to the metal making your wall sculpture a true piece of unique art.

Indoor Waterfall Water Feature Fountain - Features / Waterfalls / Fountains

Indoor waterfalls dramatically improve ambiance by bringing the sights and sounds of a modern waterfall into your home or office. The sound of indoor fountains are associated with beautiful nature settings, peaceful vacations and meditative tranquility. An indoor waterfall can provide many health benefits as well. The flow of water captures airborne particles and dust from the air. The slow evaporation of water releases beneficial negative ions into the air and acts as a natural humidifier. For more sensitive environments or healthcare settings we offer a line of indoor fountains incorporating specialized precautions against bacteria and microorganisms. These options include Saniguard coatings, ultraviolet light sterilization systems and reverse osmosis systems.

Wells novel features Rod Taylor as a time traveling scientist who journeys to a distant future where mankind has devolved into the brutal Morlocks and the fragile Eloi. Yvette Mimieux plays Weena, the object of Taylor's affections. As with most Pal films, the special effects are top-notch.

"The painting has many features typical of a 14th-15th Century Annunciation and, following that tradition, incorporates the symbolism of works of that period.

"It is a painting really of two portraits, that of Chattie Salaman as a female angel Gabriel and that of Angelica Bell, Vanessa and Duncan’s daughter, as Mary.

"The angel Gabriel, holding lilies, a symbol of Mary’s virginity, is painted in a strong proclamatory colour and posture. Mary, kneeling, dressed in white symbolic of her purity and virginity, humbly receives and accepts the call of God.

"Through the opening is a walled garden which might serve as an ‘hortus conclusus’ (closed garden) whose ordered beds and high walls are a further symbol of Mary’s virtues; her virginity, her self-control, containment and discipline. It represents the keeping out of the lures and temptations of the world in order to focus on the heavenly. In the right corner of the garden a fruit tree is in flower, spring has arrived, Mary’s eventual fruitfulness in the birth of Jesus alluded to. The garden portrayed is actually the walled garden at Charleston and Vanessa would probably have worked on this painting in her studio at the top of the house overlooking it."

Entrance nearest Ansel Road on the northwest facade of the Hitchcock Center for Women, an addiction treatment facility located at 1227 Ansel Road in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States.

This is the former Our Lady of the Lake Seminary, known informally as St. Mary's Seminary. The building sits on an 11-acre site adjacent to the Cleveland Cultural Gardens and Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Ground was broken in 1924 and a portion of the seminary opened for students and staff on November 7, 1924. The remainder of the seminary was completed on September 14, 1925. The chapel was finished on October 1, 1925.

The 95,000 square foot facility was designed by local architects Franz C. Warner and W.R. McCornack, and built by the Schirmer-O'Hara Co. (It is unclear who did the exterior artwork.) It is in the Mission Revival architectural style and the exterior is buff colored tapestry brick.

The seminary had more than 200 rooms, which included 150 single-occupancy bedrooms for instructors and students, classrooms, two refectories (dining rooms), a kitchen, several lounges, library, gymnasium, and chapel.

The building faces southwest, and is in the form of a rectangle bisected by a central wing. This central wing contains the chapel, which features walls lined with travertine marble, an open-timbered ceiling, bronze Stations of the Cross cast in Germany, 24 stained glass windows by Zettler of Munich, and an apse decorated with a mosaic of hand-laid colored glass.

The library on the second floor above the former main entrance. It is domed and features shelves for 40,000 volumes. It is decorated in the Mission Revival style with stained glass, marble, wrought-iron grill work, carved oak moldings, and frescoes.

The rear wing houses two refectories, one for students and a smaller one for faculty. Both are in the Mission Revival style, with unfinished plaster walls and open-beam ceilings. Numerous paintings hang the walls. In the basement below this wing is the kitchen, with dumbwaiters connecting the kitchen to the refectories above.

The two interior courtyards framed by the building were originally landscaped in the style of a Spanish garden.

The seminary provided both undergraduate and graduate programs until 1954, when an undergraduate program was established at Borromeo College Seminary in Wickliffe, Ohio (the site of the former Marycrest School). Our Lady of the Lake Seminary closed in September 1990. The graduate program moved to Borromeo College, while the undergraduate program was moved to John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

Hitchcock Center for Women is an addiction treatment center for women founded in 1971. It purchased the former seminary in 1992.

Known for their stunning pa ndau needlework – a highly prized traditional art, the exuberant bands of multi-coloured embroidery that decorate their clothing costume is one of the main drawing points in itself. This is an incredibly beautiful part of Vietnam.

The extensive Boat of Garten station features its original buildings, dating from 1904 by the architect William Roberts. It was originally a parallel junction between the Highland Railway's main line from Perth to Forres and the Great North of Scotland Railway's (GNSR) branch to Craigellachie - this was the original Strathspey Railway, the company being a subsidiary of the GNSR. Today there are two passenger platforms and the yard stores the majority of the SR's out of use rolling stock.

Boat of Garten also has the railway's only water column where the locomotives stop to take water on their way north through the station. There are two signal boxes, Boat of Garten North and Boat of Garten South and signalling uses traditional British Railways mechanical semaphore signalling; it is the crossing point on the line when there are two trains running.

Most of what visitors to the railway see today is original from the days of British Railways. The main layout of the station has not been altered significantly, with the exception of the extensive yard behind the signal box. The turnout that formerly allowed access to the yard without having to access the headshunt was removed before the line closed and there are no plans to re-install it.

Leaving Boat of Garten, trains cross the road on the new single track box-girder bridge and pass the site of the original GNSR engine shed; long demolished, it is now the site of a permanent way depot. The track had been lifted and structures demolished by British Rail after closure of the line in the 1960s. The railway passes though mainly farmland on the re-laid track, which was mostly recovered from Kincardine power station in Fife in the 1990s. The tracks to Craigellachie and Grantown had originally left the station extending in a double track formation as far as Croftnahaven, where the GNSR line turned sharply south east and crossed the River Spey. This arrangement was adopted because a signal box for a junction here was deemed too expensive.

The palatial John Wanamaker department store in Center City Philadelphia features the former St. Louis World's Fair pipe organ. The organ was installed in the store's marble-clad central atrium known as the Grand Court. in 1911.

Despite its size, the organ was deemed insufficient to fill the Grand Court with its music. Wanamaker's responded by assembling its own staff of organ builders and expanding the organ several times over a period of years. The organ still stands in place in the store today, and is the largest operational pipe organ in the world, with some 28,000 pipes. It is famed for the delicate, orchestra-like beauty of its tone as well as its incredible power.

St Mark's Church of England, in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell, features the largest collection of stained glass windows created by the husband and wife artistic team of Christian and Napier Waller outside of the National War Memorial in Canberra. The collection of stained glass at St Mark's dates from the 1930s through to the mid Twentieth Century. These include windows along the north ambulatory.

Saint Mark, who is depicted in this north ambulatory window, was an evangelist, and is sometimes referred to as John Mark. He is presumed to be the youngest of Jesus' apostles, and may have only been a teenager when he met Jesus. He disappointed Paul on his missionary journey, but by tradition he went to Egypt and redeemed himself in the eyes of Paul.

St Mark's Parish was first established in 1912, as ribbon housing estates and developments were established along the Burke Road tramline. In 1914, a church hall, designed by Louis Reginald Williams and Alexander North, was built to be used for all church services and any parish activities on a temporary basis. The temporary accommodation lasted for fourteen years, until St Mark's Church of England was built between 1927 and 1928, to the design specifications of noted local architect Rodney Howard Alsop. Mr. Alsop was a significant and prolific contributor to the Arts and Crafts movement in Australia. St Mark's Church of England is an interesting building as it has been designed in rather imposing Gothic design, and yet it is heavily influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, no doubt as a result of the architect's passion for the design movement. The foundation stone was laid in 1927 and the building opened in July of the following year. During the post Great War era, there was a war memorial movement that influenced architectural design throughout Australia. The movement was at its peak in the 1920s, so a key feature of the planning of St Mark's Church of England was the inclusion of a war memorial within the church building. This was achieved by way of a chapel which was dedicated to the memory of the men of the parish who died during the Great War (1914 - 1918). St Mark's Church of England was completed during the one construction period and the building has never been altered architecturally since. The design of St Mark's includes an elegant broach spire, and use of stucco rendering and minimal ornamentation. There are interesting internal aspects, including the octagonal baptistery and the placing of the square chancel behind the altar.

Christian Waller (1894 – 1954) was an Australian artist. Born in Castlemaine, Victoria, Christian was the fifth daughter and youngest of seven children of William Edward Yandell a Victorian-born plasterer, and his wife Emily, née James, who came from England. Christian began her art studies in 1905 under Carl Steiner at the Castlemaine School of Mines. The family moved in 1910 to Melbourne where Christian attended the National Gallery schools. She studied under Frederick McCubbin and Bernard Hall, won several student prizes, exhibited (1913-22) with the Victorian Artists Society and illustrated publications. On 21 October 1915 at the manse of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carlton, she married her former fellow-student Mervyn Napier Waller; they were childless, but adopted Christian’s niece Klytie Pate, in all but a legal sense. During the 1920s Christian Waller became a leading book illustrator, winning acclaim as the first Australian artist to illustrate Alice in Wonderland (1924). Her work reflected Classical, Medieval, Pre-Raphaelite and Art Nouveau influences. She also produced woodcuts and linocuts, including fine bookplates. From about 1928 she designed stained-glass windows. The Wallers travelled to London in 1929 to investigate the manufacture of stained glass at Whall & Whall Ltd's premises. Returning to Australia via Italy, they studied the mosaics at Ravenna and Venice. Christian signed and exhibited her work under her maiden name until 1930, but thereafter used her married name. In the 1930s Waller produced her finest prints, book designs and stained glass, her work being more Art Deco in style and showing her interest in theosophy. She created stained-glass windows for a number of churches—especially for those designed by Louis Williams—in Melbourne, Geelong, and rural centres in New South Wales. Sometimes she collaborated with her husband, both being recognized as among Australia's leading stained-glass artists. Estranged from Napier, Christian went to New York in 1939. In 1940 she returned to the home she shared with her husband in Fairy Hills where she immersed herself in her work and became increasingly reclusive. In 1942 she painted a large mural for Christ Church, Geelong; by 1948 she had completed more than fifty stained-glass windows.

Mervyn Napier Waller (1893 – 1972) was an Australian artist. Born in Penshurst, Victoria, Napier was the son of William Waller, contractor, and his wife Sarah, née Napier. Educated locally until aged 14, he then worked on his father's farm. In 1913 he began studies at the National Gallery schools, Melbourne, and first exhibited water-colours and drawings at the Victorian Artists' Society in 1915. On 31 August of that year he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, and on 21 October at the manse of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carlton, married Christian Yandell, a fellow student and artist from Castlemaine. Serving in France from the end of 1916, Waller was seriously wounded in action, and his right arm had to be amputated at the shoulder. Whilst convalescing in France and England Napier learned to write and draw with his left hand. After coming home to Australia he exhibited a series of war sketches in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Hobart between 1918 and 1919 which helped to establish his reputation as a talented artist. Napier continued to paint in water-colour, taking his subjects from mythology and classical legend, but exhibited a group of linocuts in 1923. In 1927 Napier completed his first major mural for the Menzies Hotel, Melbourne. Next year his mural 'Peace after Victory' was installed in the State Library of Victoria. Visiting England and Europe in 1929 to study stained glass, the Wallers travelled in Italy where Napier was deeply impressed by the mosaics in Ravenna and studied mosaic in Venice. He returned to Melbourne in March 1930 and began to work almost exclusively in stained glass and mosaic. In 1931 he completed a great monumental mosaic for the University of Western Australia; two important commissions in Melbourne followed: the mosaic façade for Newspaper House (completed 1933) and murals for the dining hall in the Myer Emporium (completed 1935). During this time he also worked on a number of stained-glass commissions, some in collaboration with his wife, Christian. Between 1939 and 1945 he worked as an illustrator and undertook no major commissions. In 1946 he finished a three-lancet window commemorating the New Guinea martyrs for St Peter's Church, Eastern Hill. In 1952-58 he designed and completed the mosaics and stained glass for the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. On 25 January 1958 in a civil ceremony in Melbourne Waller had married Lorna Marion Reyburn, a New Zealand-born artist who had long been his assistant in stained glass.
