Smile on Saturday theme: Fancy Fence

I shot this one out my window to capture all the light and shadows.

Colour abnormalities often caused by a virus I have been told.

This very fancy and elegant mandarin duck drake showed up in Queen Creek, AZ, about 20 minutes from my house. These guys are native to the Far East in places like China and Japan. But colonies exist in both the UK and U.S. from ducks that have either escaped or were released into the wild. I know there are some established in California, and a couple show up in Prescott, Arizona from time-to-time. But it's very rare for the Phoenix area so I was thrilled to have had a couple opportunities to photograph this gorgeous guy. Interestingly, he befriended mallard drake and the two seem to be inseparable.

Fallowing about a week of almost blizzard-like conditions, with relentless NE winds and drifting snow, we were told that it was going to warm up, but that some areas might experience freezing rain in the interim period. They were correct! This is what we woke up to see!

This 'fancy' fence is at one end of what used to be our manure pit. Those are grape vines in back and the power line overhead. By this time the thaw had started, and some of the ice had already fallen off the power line. (17-02-09-6598)

This was taken February 2017, and currently, December 29, 2017, we are in the midst of another ice storm!

2009 Challenge Day 362: REMOTE

We decided, my hubby, daughters and I, NO gifts this year for Christmas!!! But, they didn't know that I already had done mine for my family!! LOL!! Ready to surprise them!! But the biggest surprise was from my older daughter, who is working part time!! An LCD 42" Samsung TV!!!

This is its remote control sitting on a needle point runner that I had done pre-computer era!! LOL!!

This morning in my garden. This bright, vivid, yellow striped gazania flower is in a flowerpot outside my kitchen door... There are a number of flowerpots 🌱🌱

Eastern Grey squirrel seeks food and shelter in my "bird" feeder on a dull day.

This roof with limited space, has found a solution to keep everything compact.

Grumpton, myself and Colin went on a tour of local waterfalls during this current Arctic blast and this one really delivered the goods.

Weiner Falls near Sproat Lake offers a relatively tall column of water which creates fascinating ice formations because of the freezing spray.

After a sketchy climb down into the canyon we donned our ice spikes and got stuck in. This is one of my earlier compositions.

I'll be posting a full video documenting the creation of this shot but until then, fancy a dip?

Before heading out on the walk with Scott and Sock this afternoon I managed to snap a few shots of Fyero while she was watching out the window.

I like the way the tulips frame her and pop some colour into the photo so I'm going with it.

I did manage a couple bird photos while I was out walking but this shot just stands out a little more to me.
