Male Red Legged Honeycreeper.
Interestingly the juvenile male starts off looking like the green female - then gradually develops the male plumage - so has patches of both for a time.

This little bench is in front of a sewing store in a small strip mall. There is also a coffee shop and I think there was a beauty parlor. The name of the parlor was “We’s Cuttin Up.” I think it moved somewhere else or I just didn’t see it or maybe it refers to the sewing store. I really don’t know much about this mall as it is!

Maybe not a true quonset because there is about six feet of vertical wall on each side. But how 'bout that big door?
No, this Glaucous-winged Gull has not been to a Taylor Swift concert. Those colourful bands are part of the Salish Sea Gull Project which is studying the health and habitat of gulls in the very human impacted Salish Sea (Gulf of Georgia). I took this image at the pier in Crescent Beach, Surrey, B.C. and I reported the sighting to the project.
Who wouldn't want to go wash their hands in a little room dominated by this chandelier....yes, it's from the ladies' room at a winery near me!
For Macro Mondays - It's Alive.
The second time I have seen one of these flies, the eyes suggest to me that it is some sort of Horsefly but if anyone can help with the ID I would appreciate it.

Nothing fancy about this one, I was just packing up to head home as I had an hour walk and a two hour drive home and I thought I'd take one last shot of such a pretty sky :)
This very fancy and elegant mandarin duck drake showed up in Queen Creek, AZ, about 20 minutes from my house. These guys are native to the Far East in places like China and Japan. But colonies exist in both the UK and U.S. from ducks that have either escaped or were released into the wild. I know there are some established in California, and a couple show up in Prescott, Arizona from time-to-time. But it's very rare for the Phoenix area so I was thrilled to have had a couple opportunities to photograph this gorgeous guy. Interestingly, he befriended mallard drake and the two seem to be inseparable.
I don't know what kind of message the artist was sending with this fancy enamel pin, but I think it's perfect for Pride Month 2025.
