I was going through some old papers and came across this sheet of construction paper. It is wonderfully faded. Oddly enough there were no gator clips attached to this sheet. Certainly there were at some point.

Maple Tree Flowers
Something that one would normally overlook. However, the pretty golden, back lighting attracted me to the general subject.
Although they flower every year, Maple Trees produce flowers that are not noteworthy from an esthetic POV. Because their flowering process is so mundane, I don't think I've ever thought about the annual flowering of our Maple Trees before - not until later when the "helicopter" seed pods mature & start to fall. The actual flowers are so small that they usually get missed. Despite vaguely noticing debris from the fading flowers on the ground, I didn't pay much attention to our naked Maple trees until today when I finally took a closer look. Flowers appear at the tips of branches in small clusters.
The seed pods - that follow the flowers - are now just starting to form. In other lighting, I probably wouldn't have noticed them at this point.
I went outside the other to day to snap some photos when the sun popped out it's golden rays and beckoned me outside after being cooped up inside after a long winter...and this rose caught my eye...last year this was a fresh and vibrant cherry-red rose...now it's nothing but faded memories. Spring is coming and it will soon be reborn.

While we're living, the dreams we had as children fade away. But still the memories remain. And so they keep on smoldering, like little dim sparks ready to start a great fire... Lighting up the hope of our dreams once again. An empty seat is not a last chance, just a forgotten one.
The day I shot this was a day that produced a couple of great images of our Bayview Bridge and I've received some great feedback about them. There were a few images that I hadn't even looked at so I went back today, picked one, and processed it. That basically consisted of converting it to jpeg from RAW. It needed little else. I really like how it turned out. I hope the sky repeats itself soon. That day was awesome.

My wife took this photo of a faded Gardenia flower, next to our house. Larger sizes available.
Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades,
but the word of our God will stand forever. (ESV)
I may as well mention here, that the conclusion I arrived at from the observations I was afterwards able to make, was, that the flowers die because the fairies go away; not that the fairies disappear because the flowers die. The flowers seem a sort of houses for them, or outer bodies, which they can put on or off when they please. George MacDonald, Phantastes.

These tracks were our route into the town every day, which is much faster than walking via the roads. A little unnerving in the pitch dark on our way back though! Especially if you think you can hear a train coming...
I couldn't decide how to process this image - whether to oversaturate or convert to black and white - so in the end I did both. The picture fades from black and white to full, overblown colour the further out you look.
Well, after a big day at the Growers market where I sell my plants, I still had to find a subject for my POTD. I went looking for a bug, having seen a really cute ladybird which unfortunatety declined to be my model & flew away!
And so, I came across this geum x rivale called "Pink Frills". It's quite lovely when fresh but I have always admired the beginnings of seeds in the fading flower... so not being able to find a suitable bug, I decided this was it. Once I'd seen this end result, I knew I was right, it's very elegant even at this late stage.
A faded set of M4s sits in New Haven yard. With the last of the Triplex MUs seeing passenger service nearly two years ago, the fate of these cars remains unknown.
Although a member of the BNSF fleet now, this warbonnet themed locomotive still sports its Santa Fe Railroad logo.

I don't know what kind of light in the left side the picture, is it the shooting star or UFO that want to conquer the world, wew??
"Fade to Night"
Suns fire kisses
Waters edge
Twilights glow
Brings star on low
Two hearts bound
As sky and land
The Fade to Night
Is at hand

Life it seems will fade away
Drifting further everyday
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters, no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can’t be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me but now He’s gone
No one but me can save myself, but it’s too late
Now I can’t think, think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm now I will just say goodbye

This flower is fading fast, but I thought that the colors and shapes were still interesting.
Strobist info: I wanted to show the translucent quality of the petals so I back lit the flower by placing a Strobie 130 in a Rogue grid behind to camera left at 10 o'clock. For fill light a placed a YN560-II in a 24 inch soft box, camera left and in front at 7 o'clock. Both strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N.
Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422
