Autumn Fading Forest
It was autumn in this German forest and the fog already beginning to thin out. As it thinned, the fog appeared to recede deeper into the trees away from me. What my imagination created when viewing this scene was not at all like what I was truly seeing. To give the forest setting a fantasy look and a fading sense of depth, I used two images which I later blend together in processing. On one, I applied a path blur filter and removed the foreground trees. It would serve as the background elements. The second was taken sharply focused on the foreground trees and leaves with a shallow DOF. Then, in processing, I removed the background trees. When blended the result was close to what my imagination had first created.

Location - San Francisco, California
I've shot at this location several times but this time the light was special. The gorgeous light lasted for few minutes before it quickly faded away. 49 seconds shutter speed with the B&W ND 110 (10 stop) filter.
I tried more traditional crops with this one, but I kept coming back to this..... there is something about all that space above the fence and tree that I personally really like.
I think maybe I'm a little uncomfortable about these latest two shots because I had a bit of an epiphany after I was done shooting in the fog that I should've composed these shots differently - closer to the subject with the fencelines fading into the fog rather then the other way around.
Perhaps I'm just nuts - lets' face it landscape shots aren't really my forte and I like them.... that's really the most important thing. ;)
I'm always amazed at the way the colours evolve in these tulips. This one started out pale yellow (see below) and is now nearing its final days with a flourish of red.
The last of this first, wonderful day of my Oct/Nov hol. I really love the Carmine/Maroon colouring of the last of the sunlight on Scafell. All colour faded rapidly after I took this.
I'm going to be offline for a couple of weeks or so, as my Mac goes back in for repair. Like me it won't wake up from sleep!
Taken on our holiday in Spain last month, this is looking towards Torrevieja from the long pier. Light was fading fast but the sky was beautiful to watch.
Fading away in to a distant memory. my family and I have had some good memories at this pier. This pier has been through many strong storms and hurricanes, but in the end it wasn't mother nature who tore it down, It was us. A Contractor that won the bid removed the battered pier from the waters off Frisco North Carolina in early spring.
I was very happy have been able to photograph this pier back in 2016 before it was taken down. this year.
This is a 2 shot landscape format panorama.

Quick last minute shot.
I do like the texture and leaf bokeh though :-)
[this made it to explore - thanks to everyone who've viewed, commented and faved!!!!]
A cold and wet fall day surrounds this idle set of mismatched CF&E power waiting to pick up a sand train for the WLE later in the day. Both former CP units now bear the markings of the IORY and CF&E, although both still wear the faded CP red scheme.

Just a simple roster shot of a brace of C40-8s tied down on the South Track and idling away in a snow squall sitting just west of the Groton-Harvard Road crossing at MP 35.5 on the Keolis/MBTA Fitchburg Route mainline.
These three units graphically illustrate the changing times in New England as all three are former Pan Am Railways units, part of a group of 30 ex CSXT C40-8s (24 standard cab and 6 wide cab)acquired by Pan Am in 2017 in a deal brokered by GE. With the sale of Pan Am to CSXT effective June 1, 2022 they all once again became the property of their former owner. Finally after a protracted delay Genesee and Wyoming's newly created Berkshire and Eastern Railroad began operating the former Pan Am Southern property as a neutral third party on behalf of 50/50 parents Norfolk Southern and CSXT.
Consequently 10 of the remaining C40 variants were transferred to the new startup including the three here. Most were quickly patched with mee BERX reporting marks and the Pan Am Railways or legacy CSXT logos were painted over. Interestingly while BERX 7518 lost her Pan Am lettering and logo on her hood she kept her Pan Am globe nose logo. Why? I have no idea but it sure does make for an interesting marker in time that will assuredly not last as the Pan Am image fades from the New England rail scene.
