WC 1560 an SW1500 sits at Pokegama Yard in Superior WI. It is most likely heading back to Stevens Point WI after receiving a required federal inspection at the former Missabe shops in Proctor MN. Built for the Kentucky and Indiana Terminal Railroad in 1968. The WC purchased it in the mid 1990's. Today it's one a handful of units still in service on CN that still carry the maroon and gold scheme made famous by the Wisconsin Central.

" When it breaks down
Oh, babe, let's try
To see the beauty in all the fading
When it breaks down
When the stakes get high
To see the beauty in all the fading "
The light was fading when I took this shot of a dock on the northern end of the Cascade Reservoir in western Idaho. A small group of people are on the opposite side of the lake (not visible unless you enlarge the picture by clicking on it... and you have a large monitor). I was tempted to give this picture the name of "Cockeyed" because the dock seems... well, cockeyed. :^) That's because the water level of the lake had been dropping, leaving the front part of the dock touching the sand.

2/365: Faded Meets Color
In this long exposure photo taken a few weeks ago at Murrell Park on Lake Grapevine I have titled ‘Faded Meets Color.’ The faded solitude of the lake water meets the colorful beach party of the rocks, to blend into infinity, forever connected and no longer faded.
I searched the shoreline for awhile looking for this spot and once discovered I feel in ‘composition lust’ with the dead log which had drifted ashore and the large tree stump making itself noticed as it bursts out of the faded lake water. I took several different photographs with the driftwood in different locations along the shore.. this spot ended up being my favorite.
This photo was taken with my Nikon D810 and Lee Filters Big Stopper and Circular Polarizer for an exposure time of 30 seconds at f/8.0, ISO 31 – 14mm.

Reminded me a lyric from Neil Young in "Hey Hey, My My....It's better to burn out than to fade away..."
What do you think?
With all the cold and snowy weather we have had of late, I haven't been doing much in the way of outdoor shooting.
But, my office mate has some nice dried up little buds in a vase in her cube. So I took advantage of some indoor nature.
Captured with iPhone and Olloclip Macro Lens.
Edited first in Snapseed and then I decided it has been ages since I used Jixipix Dramatic Black and White, so used that to convert and edit in B&W.
The red paint has nearly all faded and vines cover a door, that has obviously not been opened for quite some time, on this old Indiana barn, found along an. Indiana backroad.
Autumn Fading Forest
It was autumn in this German forest and the fog already beginning to thin out. As it thinned, the fog appeared to recede deeper into the trees away from me. What my imagination created when viewing this scene was not at all like what I was truly seeing. To give the forest setting a fantasy look and a fading sense of depth, I used two images which I later blend together in processing. On one, I applied a path blur filter and removed the foreground trees. It would serve as the background elements. The second was taken sharply focused on the foreground trees and leaves with a shallow DOF. Then, in processing, I removed the background trees. When blended the result was close to what my imagination had first created.

I wanna hold the hand inside you
I wanna take the breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life, you go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go blind
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
A stranger light comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then its smiles cover your heart
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew
I think it's strange you never knew

I'm always amazed at the way the colours evolve in these tulips. This one started out pale yellow (see below) and is now nearing its final days with a flourish of red.
