The picture ‘Fog over the Water’ belongs to the 1890s. Levitan managed to catch the moment when thick fumes are just beginning to cover the ground. One more moment and everything in nature will disappear. In this natural phenomenon, the artist saw for himself a difficult, but interesting task: to convey a damp, foggy atmosphere at nightfall, disappearing space, a slow fading of the color of the earth and the cold light of the moon. There is also a noticeable departure from realism and tendency to general forms. The artist conveyed the mood and state of mind. It is possible that the illness that tormented him, or gloomy thoughts were reflected in this canvas.

The landscape ‘Fog over the Water’ is deeply lyrical, even elegiac. The artist managed to subtly relay the nuances of the environment and the modulation of light in the atmosphere of evening nature. The color fades away while retaining its certainty. The restrained coloring of the landscape projects perfectly the mood of quiet sadness. It should be noted that the artist also used various techniques to achieve the desired effects. Microscopic examination showed that the soil in the painting is two-layer: the lower layer is red-brown, while the upper one is white, dense, completely overlapping with the lower one. In some places, you can see how the author tried to remove the already dried paint. Probably, the artist originally had another version of the same composition, where the half of the moon was to the left, and then a new moon appeared, but somewhat smaller.

There are certain memories of mine that I have thought about so much, letting them replay in my head, that they have become faded. I liken it to a pillow that has been repeatedly fluffed: the imprint of my head once resting on it is now gone since I've beaten it so much. Memories fade, the colors lose their shine in my mind, features on faces soften away, and light shines less. I wish it wasn't this way. I hold those memories close to heart, trying desperately to remember, but it never seems to work.

Traces of love long ago

Traces of love ...

Just an old song I came across today. I wanted to thank so many of you for the outpour of love and personal/private comments and emails. I thank you for all the encouragement and photo editing sites you sent so that I could keep posting shots of Selene's Enchanted world. You are all terrific, I was amazed that I still am getting notes today about what programs to use and how many have offered to help me thru it. I hope I can get back on the saddle again real soon. Hugs to each and EVERY one of you. ♥

PS Im really excited and honored that Selene was asked to pose for an upcoming fantasty book cover that is schedule to be in bookstores this coming April 2012 (its a small bit but so much fun)....more on that later.♥

Olympic 747 SX-OAB stands outside the derelict remains of Ellinikon Airport in Athens. The airport was replaced by a new facility in 2001 and the airline ceased trading in 2009 - it's name lives on as a regional subsidiary of Aegean Airlines.

The impression of Recoleta is one of faded glory… Buenos Aires was rebuilt in the early 20th century to look a bit like Paris, Madrid and Rome. Part of its appeal and romance is due to its resembling a faded, time-worn version of all these, and a stroll round Recoleta feels far more Old World than anything on offer in European cities of the twenty first century. The shady plazas, huge parks, corner cafés and newspaper kiosks provide all you need for a pleasant metropolitan experience. The picture summarizes the above whilst also demonstrating Argentina’s passion for soccer…- Buenos Aires, Argentina

The last of the summer roses !

This is the coast near where the (in)famous King Kamehameha, was born.

Certainly VERY windy and rough country. Absolutely gee-orgeous though.

Light fades into the shadows in Lower Antelope Canyon, Page, Arizona.

This is the same area of the canyon as my last shot. I kept the subdued colors in the background to allow the blue area to step forward.

I wanted to get the total spectrum of colors that the canyon had to offer. The most difficult colors to get are the blues and purples.

I was told that as the light is reflected from one surface to the other within the canyon, a bit of the red spectrum is absorbed until is has been reflected to a surface as blue. Not sure how true that is, but it sounds logical.

I've been processing a few more Antelope Canyon shots and thought that I would post this shot, one of my favorites.

I still have many more shots to process from my Arizona trip last May.

Faded, baby, you're faded

Baby you're faded, faded...

Back on a great summer day in 2015, was capped off by a late evening departure of Pan Am train EDRJ. The all blue EMD lashup of course was delayed in leaving East Deerfield which only resulted in a couple of shots as evident of the shadows the train was led by GP40-2W, GP40, SD40M-2, and GP40 consist crossing the Green River. I would run out of light. Just like running out of light the all EMD would end in 2017. Nowadays Pan Am is mainly all patched blob ex CSX GE locomotives and really don’t have an interest in shooting Pan Am as much. Lucky to have got what I did of the tired EMDs. A return to Autumn scenery. This image comes from just outside of the Blue Mountains and a little further inland towards the west. The colours were in their full fiery guise, however, strong winds made most of them fall to the ground by the time we got there.

Former Wisconsin Central SD45 7501 was assigned to the "Rock Job" near the end of their reign on the Waukesha Subdivision.

With a faded WC logo showing CN's deferred maintenance policy, the 7501's days were numbered.

As leaves fade away into deep autumn, so as we seeing our freedoms fade, indeep be blasted away The norms we’ve always counted on are quickly disappearing. The flag is still there but it has been commandeered by a political movement that is nothing of which two thirds of our country want any part. We wait and worry.
