On a dark and somewhat dismal day, a woman braves the showers at an overlook. Letchworth State Park, Castile, New York. Renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. Hikers can choose among 66 miles of hiking trails. Trails are also available for horseback riding, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Letchworth offers nature, history and performing arts programs, guided walks, tours, a summer lecture series, whitewater rafting, kayaking, a pool for swimming and hot air ballooning.

I was going to try and take some other ideas I had but other things got in the way. So this is the one. HMM everyone!
Really appreciate all your comments and favourites.

I'll be away from tomorrow for a few days - going camping near Slimbridge and hoping to put my zoom lens to good use! Fingers crossed for some warm weather as our daughter is also going away this weekend. She is completing the training expedition for her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and going rough camping on Dartmoor. Her previous expeditions have taken place despite torrential rain so she deserves some sunshine after all the mud she's trekked through in the past.
You may have noticed a recent change to my Flickr name - I've dropped the binky55 as most of my contacts now know me as Anne.

It seems for every 10 of my photos, 1 gets selected in Flickr's Explore (most interesting 500 a day)... This can't go on! ;-)
I dedicate this to Denis, aka Ditch the kitsch!, my first and dearest flickr friend
(and to all other Flickr'ers who continue to inspire me !)
Seems I'm never gonna understand this Explore stuff (who can??) ;
suddenly, after 2 months, an older photo of mine shows up in Explore's history.
But I'm not complaining!
Explore looks like a kind of lottery, while others who deserve just as much or more to be selected, don't get it (yet). Still it is reassuring that one doesn't need a pro account, or even 100 views for a pic to get "selected" by the flickr gods! ;-)
Nevertheless, life goes on, so please check my most recent pictures too! ;-)
Thank you, Flickr friends!

This Holiday Season I wish that each of my Flickr friends give and receive exactly what they wish for. I wish for you a peaceful heart, the company of those that cherish and appreciate you, joy in the belief that you can rise above your challenges and that the world will be illuminated by goodness and light. For all the problems that beset this fragile Earth....it is still incredibly beautiful. Enjoy this moment. Namaste

An inversion layer on a cold autumnal afternoon in November near Markethill. The sun has just gone down leaving some nice colour in the Belt of Venus. Taken handheld at f4.0 as the fog was moving around a bit and the scene was ever changing. St John's Parish Church Mullabrack is clearly visible poking out of the fog in this shot.
