Visiter Matera, c'est comme retourner dans un passé oublié. Lorsqu'on visite cette charmante petite ville de Basilicate, on a la sensation de mettre les pieds dans une Crèche vivante. Ce n'est pas un hasard si Matera est aussi appelée la "deuxième Bethlehem", elle a été le décor de films comme "La Passion du Christ" de Mel Gibson et "L'Évangile selon saint Matthieu" de Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Dans les années cinquante, la population qui vivait dans les grottes creusées dans la montagne fut contrainte d'abandonner leurs maisons pour s'installer dans des quartiers modernes. Personne n'aurait pensé que ces grottes, les «Sassi» (habitats creusés dans le rocher), allaient devenir le symbole d'une ville en renaissance. En 1993, l'UNESCO a inscrit les "Sassi" de Matera sur la liste du Patrimoine Mondial de l'Humanité, comme un système et un modèle de développement millénaires qui doit être préservé pour les générations à venir. Les "Sassi" sont reconnus comme un modèle de vie en parfaite harmonie avec l'environnement, s'intégrant dans celui-ci tout en exploitant ses ressources, sans l'altérer.

They were drunk and wore heavy armor for combat.
This species of North African elephant no longer exists, they were supposed to be smaller than any elephant we know of at the time.

Celle ci a une saveur tout à fait particulière puisque c'est enfin mon tout premier Martin 2020 , après m'être cassé les dents à plusieurs reprises sur mes spots habituels ces derniers temps , j'ai donc décidé de changer de tactique en exploitant d'autres endroits , armé d'une paire de jumelles j'ai cherché les indices m'indiquant ses lieux de pêche , et je suis tombé finalement sur une grosse branche de saule qui surplombe la rivière et c'est depuis cette branche que j'ai pu observer mon gaillard en action de pêche , ni une ni deux j'ai mis en place mon fameux mode opératoire habituel en fichant sur la berge un perchoir non loin de la branche et finalement ce matin là il est venu à deux reprises prendre possession de son tout nouveau plongeoir .

This one has a very special flavor since it's finally my very first Martin 2020, after having broken my teeth several times on my usual spots lately, so I decided to change tactics by exploiting 'other places, armed with a pair of binoculars I looked for clues indicating its fishing grounds, and I finally came across a large willow branch overlooking the river and it is from this branch that I I was able to observe my fellow fishing, neither one nor two I set up my famous usual operating mode by tying a perch on the bank not far from the branch and finally that morning he came twice to take possession of its brand new diving board.

Le site de Kerlescan est le plus petit et le plus préservé des alignements de Carnac. Il présente des traces riches d’enseignement sur les spécificités du mégalithisme carnacois.
Ce champ de menhirs est composé de 13 files où 555 pierres se dressent. Une enceinte de 39 menhirs est située à l’extrémité ouest du site. Elle est fermée au nord par un long tertre (= monticule de pierres recouvrant une sépulture), marqué par un haut menhir de 3,7 mètres de hauteur.
Le site est daté du IVe millénaire avant notre ère. La relative petite taille du site permet de mieux en comprendre l’architecture, on peut observer le monument dans toute sa plénitude et la perspective, sans doute voulue par les bâtisseurs, avec "les petites pierres qui se situent sur le bas du terrain, et les grandes pierres sur le haut." C’est grâce à ce site que les chercheurs sont certains que les menhirs de Carnac ont été taillés sur place, tant les affleurements rocheux portent des traces de leur exploitation. Les pierres elles-mêmes portent des messages : on peut y lire toute leur histoire, avec notamment des traces d’érosion pré et post-mégalithique. Certaines des pierres montrent encore des traces de tentative de débitage ...

L'orang-outan est le plus grand mammifère arboricole au monde. Il se déplace de branche en branche par brachiation, bien qu'il n'hésite pas à parcourir d'importantes distances au sol si nécessaire. Ses longs bras qui lui arrivent jusqu'aux chevilles lui permettent des déplacements aisés à travers la forêt tropicale malaisienne et indonésienne. A lovely woodland walk amongst magnificent old trees in the National forest of Tomnafinnoge Woods, County Wicklow, Ireland.
“Tomnafinnoge Woods is the last surviving fragment of the great Oak Woods of Tinahely, which once clothed the hills and valleys of south Wicklow, Ireland. As early as 1444 these woods supplied timber for the construction of King's College, Cambridge, and later for Westminster Abbey, St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin. In 1634, the woods were estimated to cover 'more than many thousand acres', but from then on they were heavily exploited especially for shipbuilding.
Today the woods are owned and protected by the Irish State. They are included in the Slaney River Valley candidate Special Area of Conservation.[2] A tributary of the Slaney, the River Derry flows through the woods. This is one of the best places in Ireland to see the great spotted woodpecker, which has recently recolonised the country.“ (Wikipedia)
We met these two horses and we brought them some apples every day for one week. They wait for us at the sunsets when we got back from our visits to Maremma beauties. They were giant compare to us but they moved slowly and gently around my daughters and we left them with sorrow in the heart but happy to leave them knowing they were free in a huge area and not exploited for tourists.

Situé à – 153 mètres sous le niveau de la mer, c’est le point le plus bas du continent africain.
C’est une des étendues d’eau les plus salées du monde, avec teneur en sel de 348 grammes par litre : plus élevée que celle de la mer morte. Ce sel, objet de commerce par les nomades Afars depuis des temps immémoriaux, est aujourd’hui exploité de manière industrielle.
Le lac Assal aux eaux turquoises, entouré de sa banquise de sel, elle-même cernée par la lave, est d’une beauté incomparable ...

Le site Bouchayer-Viallet s´installe à Grenoble en 1870 au moment de l´association entre les sociétés Joseph Bouchayer et Félix Viallet. Tous deux pressentent l´essor industriel et l´expansion de l´hydroélectricité avec l´exploitation des chutes d´eau. Ils produisent des appareils calorifères, de la chaudronnerie, de la charpente. Leur usine se spécialisera également dans la construction de l´équipement d´usine hydroélectrique. A la mort de Joseph Bouchayer, c´est son fils qui prend la suite. C´est à partir de 1900 que commence le transfert des installations de l´avenue de la gare jusqu´aux berges du Drac où se maintiendront les Etablissements Bouchayer-Viallet jusqu´à la fin des années 1960. C´est à ce moment-là qu´est achetée une halle sur pied attribuée aux ateliers de Gustave Eiffel pour l´Exposition Universelle de Paris, afin d´y installer l´atelier de chaudronnerie. Cette halle de 3000 m² est démontée, acheminée à Grenoble et remontée sur le nouveau terrain. Il s´agit d´un bâtiment industriel acquis à bas prix où est plaqué un pignon en maçonnerie assez plat doté de trois ouvertures en plein cintre. Depuis 1986, la halle est occupée par le Centre National d'Art Contemporain, dit le Magasin, du nom de sa dernière utilisation. Racheté par la ville de Grenoble en 1980, le site est réhabilité par Patrick Bouchain, architecte, assisté de François Braize, ingénieur-conseil. Bien que méconnu, cet espace d´exposition d´art contemporain, occupe aujourd´hui une des premières places européennes.

It was declared a National Historic monument.
It was a property of Juan Narbona who exploited it like limekiln.
In the year 1738 there was constructed an oratory and a chapel that were the only ones between Montevideo and Villa Soriano
The Estancia de Narbona, (Narbona’s Farm), built by Don Juan de Narbona in 1732, is an archeological relic. Its Chapel and Oratory were the only ones that existed at those times between Montevideo and Villa Soriano. They were related to the Camacho family, and they are near the Camacho Bridge, surrounded by a beautiful park.

Monitoring suggests a severe decline in the UK house sparrow population, recently estimated as dropping by 71 per cent between 1977 and 2008 with substantial declines in both rural and urban populations. While the decline in England continues, Breeding Bird Survey data indicate recent population increases in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Les Mines d'Ocre de Bruoux, souvent appelées Mines de Bruoux, sont un ancien site minier situé sur la commune de Gargas, dans le département du Vaucluse, en France. Il est transformé en musée et site touristique naturel depuis 2009.
De par son ancienneté et ses dimensions, c'est un site unique au monde.
L’utilisation de l’ocre remonte à la période Paléolithique. C’est en 1785, à Roussillon en Vaucluse, que débute l'exploitation de ce minerai avec Jean-Etienne Astier, qui découvre le moyen de l'extraire. Ici à Gargas, c’est en 1848 que commence l’exploitation industrielle de l’ocre, qui sera utilisé principalement pour des peintures, colorations et revêtements.
L’épopée industrielle des mines de Bruoux durera plus d’un siècle. Durant cette période, des mineurs – appelés ocriers – creusaient des galeries à coups de pioche, manipulant des wagonnets tirés par des chevaux et extrayant les sables ocreux. Sans l'intervention de l'homme et l'exploitation industrielle, ce minerai serait resté caché sous une végétation de garrigue, typique de Provence.
Aujourd’hui, la Société des Ocres de France, basée à Apt, exploite la dernière carrière d’ocre à ciel ouvert d’Europe à Gargas.

04-May-2022: about turism: my perplexities towards a future with more and more bans and more and more over-taxes.
Lake Bohinj and the much more famous Lake Bled are close (less than 20 km) but the second has a mass tourism now rooted, while the first is expanding its tourist reception in recent years, coming out (unfortunately) from the shadow of Bled, that was a lightning rod for peaceful and symbiotic nature lovers.
I am totally against mass tourism because it transforms a relaxing resort into an area where it is difficult even to access it.
Around Lake Bled, even at a certain distance, there are only paid parking lots, which come to cost 6 euros per hour (about the most decentralized and in May...) that, certainly, leave perplexed about the "tourist selection" that "they" would like to implement (high-end tourism) and, in general, certainly drive away the tourist in search of nature and not restaurants, bars, concrete lake-front and crowd baths.
The naturalist tourist should not feel like a tourist in Nature, which is a single great asset of humanity and that only administratively is divided between various Countries, while in Bled, as in Rimini or Cortina d'Ampezzo, they make you feel not only tourist, but also guest, sometimes unwanted if you spend little.
As tourism increases, so do the bans, because unfortunately mass tourism includes many people who don't know anything about Nature and generally only go to very touristy places to make themselves of...people, sowing dirt and ignorance wherever they move.
The imposition of prohibitions/bans to limit the "damage from mass tourism" affects everyone indiscriminately, including locals and naturalists who have always had a symbiotic relationship with these places, thus making them become inhospitable, at least to those seeking pure contact with nature itself.
Of course this happens all over the world, but it should be condemned.
We already pay State taxes for the maintenance of the slice of Nature that falls within our administration, tourist surcharges, exploiting market laws that should be verified and contained, are for the most part unconstitutional, as well as several prohibitions that deprive access and use of public property.
With the money that the tourist municipalities pocket they could very well implement a targeted prevention (controls by foresters, cameras, ad hoc fences for areas subject to micro-pollution...) rather than closing everything and then de-empowering themself on the maintenance of roads and areas (more and more numerous), thus going to save further, starting from the basic taxes that we pay to also have access to given areas.
I can understand that you tax parking at high altitude to maintain the roads, but the amount of the payment should be directly proportional to the expenses that must be incurred to ensure accessibility, not by putting prices at random and with increases of 200% from one year to the next.
I have always appreciated the fact that Slovenia, thanks also that it is not densely inhabited and has a modest tourism (except precisely Bled, Postojna Caves and the Coast), guarantees a wide accessibility and use of its territories and I hope it can continue, limiting the prohibitions and parking lots everywhere.

le charme carprinus , arbre souvent planté dans les parcs et jardins pour orner de ses feuilles brillantes et nervurées les vastes pelouses. Il se pare selon les saisons de couleurs dorées de longs chatons ou de grappes de fruits ( les feuilles tombent qu'au printemps . Les sujets âgés de carpinus betulus commun peuvent facilement atteindre 25 m de hauteur et un âge de 150 ans. Originaire des régions tempérées de l'hémisphère Nord , ces beaux arbres font partie de la famille des bétulacées . Outre leur emploie ornementaux, les charmes constituent de belles haies facile à entretenir et à tailler, souvent utilisées en agriculture de plaine pour servir de brise-vent. la dureté du bois de charme est exploité depuis des siècles puisqu'il servait déjà à fabriquer le joug des attelages des boeufs, De nos jouets , on en fait des jouets , des manches à outils. On utilisait son écorce autrefois en teinturerie pour obtenir des tons jaunes. En photothérapie, les feuilles sont utilisées pour leur propriétés astringentes .

Sentier des ocres - Roussillon (84)
Avec l'exploitation de l'ocre la main de l'homme a transformé le paysage Roussillonnais, les éléments naturels (l'eau, le vent, les pluies) poursuivent le travail des ocriers avec l'érosion mais, le résultat est tout simplement splendide (la « chaussée des géants », les « cheminées de fées » et le « val des fées »).
On ne se lasse pas d'admirer ces falaises couleur or et sang.

This locomotive was built in 1938. It was actively exploited until 1979. Now it is in working condition in the railway museum at the station Podmoskovnaya, Moscow.

Son nom arabe "al-Kahf", la grotte, dénote son passé d'exploitation minière commencée par les romains.
Les mines de Alquife furent et continuent à être l'orgueil minier de la province de Grenade. C'est une exploitation en plein air et elle jouit d'une beauté caractéristique.
Depuis très longtemps son histoire a été liée à l'extraction de minéraux que les romains utilisaient déjà.
Pendant la période arabe-andalouse les mines continuèrent à être exploitées et ce sont les arabes qui donnèrent un nouveau nom au lieu: al-Kahf, d'où vient Alquife.
Historiquement, il fait partie de la région connue sous le nom de Marquesado del Zenete.

It is a real problem, is it not? How can we come to an understanding of this utterly diverse and complicated world whilst sitting in the particularity of our home? It is true that the media, from newspapers to TV and social media, offer us a daily digest of selected information. We would, I sincerely hope, critically examine these news and think for ourselves. However, even so, we would have to deal with the selective nature of the information. We never see "the whole picture". Our knowledge, even at the best of times, is necessarily fragmentary. It is absolutely important to be aware of this limitation - it is one of the virtues that make us human.
I am saying this because AI is on the march. AI has never ever left its ivory tower, it never "left home". It never made any experiences. AI has not seen anything. It does not know how to suffer. What it does is to harvest and (often illegally) exploit printed or published materials, information it has neither created nor even collected. It does not know what it does not know. And yet AI will come up with explanations and scenarios that are untroubled by any kind of self-doubt. AI does not know when it is peddling false information. Circulant chaque week-end à la belle saison entre Ludwigshafen et Freudenstadt, le "Murgtäler Radexpress" était le dernier train DB exploité avec des voitures de type N-Wagen en Allemagne. L'ultime circulation commerciale a en effet eu lieu en ce mois d'Octobre 2022.
L'habituelle 111 189 rouge d'ordinaire affectée à la traction de ce train était à l'arrêt depuis le début de l'été, il a donc fallu trouver des solutions alternatives. En juillet, la 111 074 en livrée "Touristik" a rassemblé bon nombre de photographes, tandis que le premier week-end d'Août, c'est la 218 460 en livrée bleu beige qui a été dépêchée.
Alors qu'elle laisse derrière elle le massif de la forêt noire, la 218-460 s'apprête à desservir la gare de Rastatt avant de filer plein nord sur la Rheintalbahn.
Tunnel de l'ancienne voie ferrée, dite "ligne du charbon" sur laquelle transitaient les trains de transports de l'anthracite des mines du bassin d'Alès vers la vallée du Rhône, Lyon. L'ancienne voie ferrée est devenue "voie verte" et relie le département de l'Ardèche à celui du Gard. Les deux régions Occitanie et Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne, semblent bien ne pas s'accorder sur la politique de réhabilitation et d'exploitation de la plupart des moyens de transports interrégionaux, dont la voie ferrée de la rive droite du Rhône dont l'exploitation commerciale pourrait se poursuivre après la gare d'Aramon-Pont-du-Gard.

Turquoise Lake is one of the tourist attractions of Wolin National Park. It is located south of the village of Wapnica (Międzyzdroje commune). Its area is 6.74 ha and it is 21.2 m deep. Since the groundwater level is 2.6 m above sea level, the lake forms a crypto depression with a depth of 18.6 m below sea level.
Before World War II, there was a chalk mine on the site of today's Turquoise Lake. After the end of World War II, the Russians dismantled the equipment located there and the open-cast mine gradually began to fill with water. In 1948, the Polish authorities decided to resume exploitation of the deposit, but by 1954 the chalk deposit had already been exhausted.
There is a karst phenomenon in the lake. The name of the lake comes from the bluish-green color of the water surface, which is caused by the splitting of sunlight in clear water and the reflections of the white chalk substrate with calcium carbonate compounds remaining on the bottom.
Der Türkissee ist eine der Touristenattraktionen des Nationalparks Wolin. Er befindet sich südlich des Dorfes Wapnica (Gemeinde Międzyzdroje). Seine Fläche beträgt 6,74 ha und er ist 21,2 m tief. Da der Grundwasserspiegel 2,6 m über dem Meeresspiegel liegt, bildet der See eine Kryptosenke mit einer Tiefe von 18,6 m unter dem Meeresspiegel.
Vor dem Zweiten Weltkrieg befand sich an der Stelle des heutigen Türkissees ein Kreidebergwerk. Nach Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs demontierten die Russen die hier befindlichen Geräte und der Tagebau begann sich allmählich mit Wasser zu füllen. 1948 beschlossen die polnischen Behörden, die Ausbeutung der Lagerstätte wieder aufzunehmen, doch 1954 war das Kreidevorkommen bereits erschöpft.
Im See gibt es ein Karstphänomen. Der Name des Sees stammt von der bläulich-grünen Farbe der Wasseroberfläche, die durch die Aufspaltung des Sonnenlichts in klares Wasser und die Reflexionen des weißen Kreidesubstrats mit am Boden verbliebenen Calciumcarbonatverbindungen entsteht.
