Visiter Matera, c'est comme retourner dans un passé oublié. Lorsqu'on visite cette charmante petite ville de Basilicate, on a la sensation de mettre les pieds dans une Crèche vivante. Ce n'est pas un hasard si Matera est aussi appelée la "deuxième Bethlehem", elle a été le décor de films comme "La Passion du Christ" de Mel Gibson et "L'Évangile selon saint Matthieu" de Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Dans les années cinquante, la population qui vivait dans les grottes creusées dans la montagne fut contrainte d'abandonner leurs maisons pour s'installer dans des quartiers modernes. Personne n'aurait pensé que ces grottes, les «Sassi» (habitats creusés dans le rocher), allaient devenir le symbole d'une ville en renaissance. En 1993, l'UNESCO a inscrit les "Sassi" de Matera sur la liste du Patrimoine Mondial de l'Humanité, comme un système et un modèle de développement millénaires qui doit être préservé pour les générations à venir. Les "Sassi" sont reconnus comme un modèle de vie en parfaite harmonie avec l'environnement, s'intégrant dans celui-ci tout en exploitant ses ressources, sans l'altérer.

Sirocco is a warm wind from the southeast. In the maps, the wind rose was positioned within the Mediterranean and specifically between the Ionian Sea and the island of Malta. Thus the wind that came from the North-East came from Greece and took the name of Grecale. the libeccio wind from Libya.The one that came from the South-East came from Syria and took the name of Scirocco. According to some Sicilian popular beliefs, this wind was considered a harbinger of misfortune and disease. These beliefs had their roots in the distant past, when North Africa was the permanent site of outbreaks of endemic infectious diseases whose germs were transported to southern Italy by mosquitoes and midges, bad flyers but very skilled in exploiting the Sirocco air currents .

Le site Bouchayer-Viallet s´installe à Grenoble en 1870 au moment de l´association entre les sociétés Joseph Bouchayer et Félix Viallet. Tous deux pressentent l´essor industriel et l´expansion de l´hydroélectricité avec l´exploitation des chutes d´eau. Ils produisent des appareils calorifères, de la chaudronnerie, de la charpente. Leur usine se spécialisera également dans la construction de l´équipement d´usine hydroélectrique. A la mort de Joseph Bouchayer, c´est son fils qui prend la suite. C´est à partir de 1900 que commence le transfert des installations de l´avenue de la gare jusqu´aux berges du Drac où se maintiendront les Etablissements Bouchayer-Viallet jusqu´à la fin des années 1960. C´est à ce moment-là qu´est achetée une halle sur pied attribuée aux ateliers de Gustave Eiffel pour l´Exposition Universelle de Paris, afin d´y installer l´atelier de chaudronnerie. Cette halle de 3000 m² est démontée, acheminée à Grenoble et remontée sur le nouveau terrain. Il s´agit d´un bâtiment industriel acquis à bas prix où est plaqué un pignon en maçonnerie assez plat doté de trois ouvertures en plein cintre. Depuis 1986, la halle est occupée par le Centre National d'Art Contemporain, dit le Magasin, du nom de sa dernière utilisation. Racheté par la ville de Grenoble en 1980, le site est réhabilité par Patrick Bouchain, architecte, assisté de François Braize, ingénieur-conseil. Bien que méconnu, cet espace d´exposition d´art contemporain, occupe aujourd´hui une des premières places européennes.
La Bergeronnette grise se nourrit de nombreux invertébrés aquatiques et terrestres. Elle capture des insectes sur le sol après une courte poursuite, mais aussi en volant. Elle poursuit sa proie avec un vol ondulant rapide, ou en voletant brièvement avant de la capturer. Sur le sol, elle chasse en marchant, en exploitant toutes sortes de surfaces depuis les routes jusqu’aux toits des maisons et autres endroits découverts.
Elle peut capturer des proies en courant et en donnant un coup de bec pour la saisir. Il lui arrive aussi de sauter en l’air pour happer un insecte volant.

The Yellow Wagtail feeds on numerous aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates. She captures insects on the ground after a short chase, but also while flying. She pursues her prey with a fast waving flight, or flutters briefly before capturing it. On the ground, she hunts while walking, exploiting all kinds of surfaces from the roads to the roofs of houses and other places discovered.
She can catch prey by running and pecking to grab it. It also happens to jump in the air to catch a flying insect.

This is a re-edit of a photo posted earlier on Flickr. A young Maasai warrior gets enthusiastic during a welcoming dance. Linda and I visited a "cultural" Maasai boma (village enclosure) while we were traveling back to Karatu from the Serengeti. It was a real village -- people live there as they try to keep the old ways, but open it to outsiders as a way to earn income to keep things going. These Maasai are traditional herders (and cultural interpreters) who live on the arid leeward side of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. They ask a donation, allow visitors to meet and photographic them, and they sell the excellent beaded crafts they have made. Some also work "in the outside" as guides or as workers at Serengeti and Ngorongoro lodges, Many see these show-villages as exploitation. I, and many others, see this as a friendly exchange that allowed Linda and me a very tiny window into the Maasai way of life. We came, we met, we learned, we left enriched though perhaps wanting more, and hopefully their life goes on. Technical Note: This is what an extreme wide angle is for. It was declared a National Historic monument.
It was a property of Juan Narbona who exploited it like limekiln.
In the year 1738 there was constructed an oratory and a chapel that were the only ones between Montevideo and Villa Soriano
The Estancia de Narbona, (Narbona’s Farm), built by Don Juan de Narbona in 1732, is an archeological relic. Its Chapel and Oratory were the only ones that existed at those times between Montevideo and Villa Soriano. They were related to the Camacho family, and they are near the Camacho Bridge, surrounded by a beautiful park.

Ce qui explose, quand explosent les censures imposées par les dirigeants, c'est un ordre moral fondé sur l'exploitation de tous. La famille, la virilité guerrière, la pudeur, toutes les valeurs traditionnelles visent à assigner chaque sexe à son rôle. Les hommes, en cadavres gratuits pour l'État, les femmes, en esclaves des hommes. Au final, tous asservis, nos sexualités confisquées, fliquées, normées. Il y a toujours une classe sociale qui a intérêt à ce que les choses restent comme elles sont, et qui ne dit pas la vérité sur ces motivations profondes.

El Marquesado del Zenete es una subcomarca (formada por diez municipios) situada al sur de Guadix, en la parte noreste de Sierra Nevada y limitando con la provincia de Almería.
La actividad minera de Alquife comenzó en la edad del Bronce y ha continuado hasta 1996. A mediados del pasado siglo las minas fueron explotadas a cielo abierto con grandes desmontes, excavaciones y movimientos de tierra, que dieron origen a los montes artificiales de color rojizo que pueden apreciarse en la fotografía. Las minas del Marquesado constituyeron, a lo largo de muchos años una de las principales fuentes de riqueza de esta zona de la provincia de Granada.

El Marquesado del Zenete is a subregion located to the south of Guadix, made up of ten municipalities in the northeastern part of Sierra Nevada, on the border with the province of Almería.
The mining activity of Alquife began in the Bronze Age and has continued until 1996. In the middle of the last century, the mines were exploited in the open sky with large clearings, excavations and earth movements, which gave rise to the reddish artificial mountains that can be seen in the photograph. The Marquesado mines constituted, over many years, one of the main sources of wealth in this area of the province of Granada.

DB 140 820, Ensdorf (ligne Trier - Saarbrücken), 24 Août 2007.
La 140 820 et son convoi sont vus dans la longue courbe entre Ensdorf et Bous le 24 Août 2007. Elle assure une des navettes quotidiennes reliant à cette époque la mine d'Ensdorf, alors encore en activité, à la centrale au charbon de Göttelborn. En queue de convoi, à peine visible sur la photo, une Br185-2, toute neuve à l'époque, assure la pousse et évite les tête-à-queue consécutifs sur un trajet pourtant très court. Ce trafic a pris fin avec l'arrêt de l'exploitation du charbon de la mine d'Ensdorf en 2010. Quant à la 140 820, elle a été retirée du service en Juillet 2010.
Voici la jeune Chouette rayée lors de sa première journée hors du nid familial. Elle poursuit sa montée sous les cris d'encouragement des parents "hou-hou". Elle aura tôt fait de se retrouver beaucoup plus haute, fatiguée mais certainement heureuse de son exploit! Elle sera enfin à l'abri de nombreux prédateurs.
Here is the young Barred Owl during the first day outside the family nest. The owlet is continuing to climb while the parents, very present, are encouraging the baby with their "hoo-hoo" to go higher and higher. Seconds later the owlet is already much higher, tired but certainly happy of this great success! The height will offer more protection from numerous predators.

RE4098 Freudenstadt Hbf-Ludwigshafen
Circulant chaque week-end à la belle saison entre Ludwigshafen et Freudenstadt, le "Murgtäler Radexpress" était le dernier train DB exploité avec des voitures de type N-Wagen en Allemagne. L'ultime circulation commerciale a en effet eu lieu en ce mois d'Octobre 2022.
L'habituelle 111 189 rouge d'ordinaire affectée à la traction de ce train était à l'arrêt depuis le début de l'été, il a donc fallu trouver des solutions alternatives. En juillet, la 111 074 en livrée "Touristik" a rassemblé bon nombre de photographes, tandis que le premier week-end d'Août, c'est la 218 460 en livrée bleu beige qui a été dépêchée.
Alors qu'elle laisse derrière elle le massif de la forêt noire, la 218-460 s'apprête à desservir la gare de Rastatt avant de filer plein nord sur la Rheintalbahn.

Saint-Véran a un long passé historique qui remonte à l’antiquité et a connu toutes les vicissitudes de l’histoire du Dauphiné et de notre paysPremier site habité du Queyras, dès -2500 ans avant J.C., la population d’alors a été attirée dans ce petit coin de montagne par l’exploitation de la mine de cuivre, Aux premiers siècles de notre ère, à la fermeture de la mine, le village serait venu s’installer plus au soleil, et n’aurait pris ce nom de Saint-Véran qu’en 700 ou 800 après J.C.Un terrible incendie en 1526 amena les habitants à reconsidérer l’organisation du village : au lieu de le reconstruire d’un seul tenant, le village fut réorganisé en quartiers, ou ruas, séparés par un espace coupe-feu, chaque secteur ayant son four à pain, sa fontaine, parfois une fruitière. On entre aujourd’hui par le bas du villageCinq quartiers se succèdent sur toute la longueur du village
Comme dans le cliché précédent , on voit que la sculpture sur bois a été longtemps autrefois un passe temps des longues périodes d'hiver dans le Queyras ... On en voit des témoignages avec les stations de chemin de croix dans l'église , ou bien encore avec les statuettes de bois sculpté de la crêche de Noel.... J'ai eu il y a bien longtemps le privilège de la voir en plein été malgré qu'elle n'était plus dans l'église.....
Cattle Egret
The Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) is a cosmopolitan species of heron (family Ardeidae) found in the tropics, subtropics, and warm-temperate zones. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Bubulcus, although some authorities regard two of its subspecies as full species, the western cattle egret and the eastern cattle egret. Despite the similarities in plumage to the egrets of the genus Egretta, it is more closely related to the herons of Ardea. Originally native to parts of Asia, Africa, and Europe, it has undergone a rapid expansion in its distribution and successfully colonized much of the rest of the world in the last century.
It is a white bird adorned with buff plumes in the breeding season. It nests in colonies, usually near bodies of water and often with other wading birds. The nest is a platform of sticks in trees or shrubs. Cattle egrets exploit drier and open habitats more than other heron species. Their feeding habitats include seasonally inundated grasslands, pastures, farmlands, wetlands, and rice paddies. They often accompany cattle or other large mammals, catching insect and small vertebrate prey disturbed by these animals. Some populations are migratory, and others show post breeding dispersal.

V siècles d'exploitation du charbon dans le bassin ont permis le développement économique pour la relance et l'emploi.
Le puits des Graves a fonctionné de 1925 à 1978.
L’exploitation du sel est passée d’une production artisanale à une production semi-industrielle depuis environ 5 ans. 13 sociétés exploitent régulièrement le Lac dont quatre grandes sociétés qui s’accaparent 90 % de l’exploitation.
Ces sociétés disposent des moyens de production tels que des bulldozers, des camions, des hangars, des machines à coudre pour ensacher. L’évolution de la production de ces industries extractives a permis de créer environ 2000 emplois par an.

Le sel djiboutien tel qu’il est n’est pas adapté à la consommation puisqu’il est récupéré sur la banquise qui n’est pas épargnée des déchets. En outre ce sel n’est pas iodé et il est mal conditionné, il est actuellement utilisé dans le domaine industriel. Les éthiopiens importent du sel alimentaire depuis d'autres pays

A la demande du Service Public de Wallonie (DGO1), Ney & Partners, en association momentanée avec l'Atelier d'Architecture du Sart Tilman, a réalisé la conception de ce pont routier avec une passerelle piétonne inférieure enjambant l'Ourthe et les voies de chemin de fer, accompagné d’espaces publics paysagers (places, parkings, promenades le long des berges). Le projet a débuté en 2014, mais a connu de nombreux recours, demandes de permis et modifications de tracé. La pose de l'étanchéité et du revêtement routier a permis au trafic automobile de reprendre son cours.
« Le souci d'inscrire avec justesse le nouvel ouvrage d'art dans son paysage est concrétisé dans chacun des aménagements prévus », explique-t-on chez AAST. Les grands arbres existants sont conservés au maximum et la flore en place renforcée. Une attention particulière est accordée au bien-être de la faune. Les déchets pierreux provenant du taillage de la colline sont récupérés afin d’aménager des milieux secs pour les reptiles. Les matériaux nobles rencontrés sont réintégrés dans le projet sous une forme nouvelle (briques, moellons, pavés). Les solutions sont une réelle innovation dans la conception et la réalisation par phases du pont et de sa passerelle. Le tablier en béton de très fine épaisseur a été agencé sur berge et poussé au-dessus de l'Ourthe par sections, sur des appuis provisoires fixés dans l'eau. La passerelle suspendue, les matériaux utilisés, l'éclairage public, sont exploités contextuellement de façon innovante. Le passage piéton sous les voies de chemin de fer est réalisé par poussage en se servant de la colline comme contre butée. »
At the request of the Public Service of Wallonia (DGO1), Ney & Partners, in temporary association with the Atelier d'Architecture du Sart Tilman, designed this road bridge with a lower pedestrian footbridge spanning the Ourthe and the tracks railroad, accompanied by landscaped public spaces (squares, car parks, promenades along the banks). The project began in 2014, but has experienced numerous appeals, permit applications and route changes. The installation of waterproofing and road surfacing has allowed automobile traffic to resume its course.
"The desire to correctly register the new work of art in its landscape is concretized in each of the planned developments", explains one at AAST. The large existing trees are preserved as much as possible and the flora in place reinforced. Particular attention is paid to the welfare of wildlife. Stone waste from the cutting of the hill is recovered in order to create dry environments for reptiles. The noble materials encountered are reintegrated into the project in a new form (bricks, rubble, cobblestones). The solutions are a real innovation in the design and phased construction of the bridge and its walkway. The very thin concrete deck was laid on the bank and pushed above the Ourthe in sections, on temporary supports fixed in the water. The suspended footbridge, the materials used, the public lighting, are contextually exploited in an innovative way. The pedestrian crossing under the railway tracks is carried out by pushing, using the hill as a counter stop. »

Le gisement d’étain de la région d’Abbaretz a fait l’objet d’exploitations très anciennes, dès l’époque gallo-romaine. Mais c’est au début du 20ème siècle que d’importants travaux de recherche ont débuté par la société nantaise des Minerais de l’Ouest (SNMO). L’exploitation principale a été réalisée à ciel ouvert sur le site du Bois Vert à l’ouest du bourg d’Abbaretz à partir de 1952. La mine à ciel ouvert a atteint des profondeurs allant de 40 à 70 m. Lors de l’exploitation, les matériaux extraits à la pelle mécanique étaient transportés par bandes transporteuses soit au nord de la route départementale directement lorsqu’il s’agit de roche de découverte ou de minerai trop pauvre en étai, soit dans l’usine de traitement du minerai. Dans l’usine, le minerai était concassé et broyé pour récupérer l’étain. Une fois ce dernier récupéré, les résidus de traitement étaient envoyés dans des grandes aires de décantation au nord de la route départementale. Cette activité a généré les terrils du Bois Vert visibles aujourd’hui : le terril conique composé de stériles d’exploitation (matériaux plus ou moins grossiers, moins chargés en métaux) et les terrils tabulaires en forme de plateaux composés de résidus de traitement (matériaux plus fins de type sable, plus chargés en métaux). L’étude menée récemment par le BRGM conclut à une concentration relativement importante en métaux dans les sols (arsenic notamment) présente dans les résidus des anciennes activités de traitement du minerai. Cette zone ayant donné lieu à une exploitation minière dans le passé contient naturellement des teneurs en métaux plus élevées que la moyenne de terres initialement chargées en métaux. Ce rapport indique qu’en dehors d’une promenade le long du chemin de randonnée et sur la montée au belvédère du terril conique, les autres usages ne sont pas compatibles avec le site.
The tin deposit in the Abbaretz region has been exploited for a very long time, since the Gallo-Roman period. But it was at the beginning of the 20th century that important research work began by the Nantes company of West Minerals (SNMO). During operation, the materials extracted with a mechanical shovel were transported by conveyor belts either to the north of the departmental road directly in the case of discovery rock or ore too poor in prop, or to the plant of ore processing. At the plant, the ore was crushed and ground to recover the tin. Once the latter was recovered, the treatment residues were sent to large settling areas north of the departmental road. This activity generated the Bois Vert slag heaps visible today: the conical slag heap made up of waste rock (more or less coarse materials, less loaded with metals) and the tabular slag heaps in the form of trays made up of treatment residues ( finer sand type, more loaded with metals). The recent study carried out by BRGM concludes that there is a relatively high concentration of metals in the soils (arsenic in particular) present in the residues of former ore processing activities. This area, which has been used for mining in the past, naturally contains higher metal contents than the average for soil initially loaded with metals. This report indicates that apart from a walk along the hiking trail and on the climb to the conical slag heap lookout, other uses are not compatible with the site.

TRI 111 111, Bruchsal (ligne Bruchsal - Mühlacker), 29 Novembre 2024.
Depuis Juin 2022, la société SWEG, jadis ABELLIO, qui exploite la relation RB17c entre Bruchsal et Bretten, fait appel à TRI pour la mise en place de rames de substitutions en semaine, pour pallier à un manque récurrent de matériel roulant. Avec le retour des rames automotrices d'ordinaire affectées à cette relation, ce service de substitution prendra fin avec le nouveau Service Horaire Annuel du 15 Décembre 2024. Pendant plus de deux ans, voitures DOSTOS et vénérables n-waggen se seront ici succédées, tractées par des machines modernes, ou, régulièrement, des Br111, louées par TRI auprès du pôle "DB Gebrauchtzug". Dans les derniers jours précédant le nouveau SA, c'est la 111 111 "Sally", repeinte quelques années plus tôt dans la livrée orange "S-Bahn", accompagnée de deux n-waggen aux couleurs de TRI, qui clôturera cet épisode des dernières rames tractées sur cette ligne. Devant un bon petit groupe de photographes, une de ces rotations est vue redémarrant de la station de Schlachthof à la sortie de l'agglomération de Bruchsal, le 29 Novembre 2024. En arrière-plan, on distingue les clochers de l'église baroque Peterskirche de Bruchsal.
I'm back after a few days away from Flickr. We visited a couple of wetlands in central Kansas hoping for some good migrating bird activity. While there were quite a few birds present, the weather wasn't very cooperative. Very windy conditions had the birds lying low, producing few photo ops.
An exception was a small group of Cattle Egrets foraging near the road in the Nature Conservancy's Chyenne Bottoms Preserve. Though windy, the weather was warm enough for snakes to be active, which this bird was happy to exploit for a meal.
Test with a used barrel of an old lens, with built in aperture and different simple lenses (exchangeable). Nothing to notice, but some are quite funny. So enjoy them and excuse the humble quality of them.
Les marais salants s'étendent de Trapani à Marsala quasiment (côté ouest de l'île) et couvrent une zone d'environ 970 hectares. Certains sont encore en exploitation, et la zone des marais est une réserve naturelle gérée par le WWF depuis 1995. Cette gestion par le WWF permet la restauration des moulins, qui souvent tombent en ruine. Mais cette gestion fait de cette zone aussi une très belle réserve animalière riche en oiseaux type échassiers, flamands, faucons pêcheurs... et toutes sortes d'oiseaux migrateurs.
La récupération du sel dans la région date des phéniciens, le sel était alors essentiel pour la conservation des aliments. Le port de Trapani a alors vu croître son importance au XIIème siécle avec l'exploitation du sel, considéré comme le meilleur d'Italie. Aujourd'hui encore ce sel est considéré comme un sel de luxe, très utilisé dans la haute gastronomie.
Contrairement au sel de Guérande légèrement gris, sauf pour la fleur de sel, le sel de Trapani et de la région est très blanc. Ce blanc est vraisemblablement du au fait qu'il fait plus chaud qu'en France, et donc que l'évaporation étant plus rapide, le sable n'a pas le temps de se déposer sur le sel.
The salt marshes extend from Trapani to Marsala almost (west side of the island) and cover an area of approximately 970 hectares. Some are still in operation, and the marsh area is a nature reserve managed by WWF since 1995. This management by WWF allows the restoration of mills, which often fall into disrepair. But this management also makes this area a very beautiful animal reserve rich in wading birds, Flemish birds, fishing hawks ... and all kinds of migratory birds.
The recovery of salt in the region dates from the Phoenicians, salt was then essential for the preservation of food. The port of Trapani then saw its importance grow in the 12th century with the exploitation of salt, considered to be the best in Italy. Even today this salt is considered to be a luxury salt, widely used in haute cuisine.
Unlike the slightly gray Guérande salt, except for the fleur de sel, the Trapani and regional salt is very white. This white is probably due to the fact that it is warmer than in France, and therefore that evaporation is faster, the sand does not have time to settle on the salt.

DON JUAN DE NARBONA 1732
It was declared a National Historic monument.
It was a property of Juan Narbona who exploited it like limekiln.
In the year 1738 there was constructed an oratory and a chapel that were the only ones between Montevideo and Town Soriano.
The Estancia de Narbona, (Narbona’s Farm), built by Don Juan de Narbona in 1732, is an archeological relic. Its Chapel and Oratory were the only ones that existed at those times between Montevideo and Villa Soriano. They were related to the Camacho family, and they are near the Camacho Bridge, surrounded by a beautiful park.

Le gisement d’étain de la région d’Abbaretz a fait l’objet d’exploitations très anciennes, dès l’époque gallo-romaine. Mais c’est au début du 20ème siècle que d’importants travaux de recherche ont débuté par la société nantaise des Minerais de l’Ouest (SNMO). L’exploitation principale a été réalisée à ciel ouvert sur le site du Bois Vert à l’ouest du bourg d’Abbaretz à partir de 1952. La mine à ciel ouvert a atteint des profondeurs allant de 40 à 70 m. Lors de l’exploitation, les matériaux extraits à la pelle mécanique étaient transportés par bandes transporteuses soit au nord de la route départementale directement lorsqu’il s’agit de roche de découverte ou de minerai trop pauvre en étai, soit dans l’usine de traitement du minerai. Dans l’usine, le minerai était concassé et broyé pour récupérer l’étain. Une fois ce dernier récupéré, les résidus de traitement étaient envoyés dans des grandes aires de décantation au nord de la route départementale. Cette activité a généré les terrils du Bois Vert visibles aujourd’hui : le terril conique composé de stériles d’exploitation (matériaux plus ou moins grossiers, moins chargés en métaux) et les terrils tabulaires en forme de plateaux composés de résidus de traitement (matériaux plus fins de type sable, plus chargés en métaux). L’étude menée récemment par le BRGM conclut à une concentration relativement importante en métaux dans les sols (arsenic notamment) présente dans les résidus des anciennes activités de traitement du minerai. Cette zone ayant donné lieu à une exploitation minière dans le passé contient naturellement des teneurs en métaux plus élevées que la moyenne de terres initialement chargées en métaux. Ce rapport indique qu’en dehors d’une promenade le long du chemin de randonnée et sur la montée au belvédère du terril conique, les autres usages ne sont pas compatibles avec le site.

Le cap Garonne surplombe la ville du Pradet . Depuis ce point de vue on peut observer le maquis varois avec la bruyère en fleur et la rade de Toulon. , La terre du chemin , à la teinte cuivrée rappelle que la mine , jadis exploitée du Cap Garonne était riche de ce minerai.. de nos jours, la mine est devenue un musée .

Le Colorado provençal est un site industriel, exploité de la fin du xviie siècle jusqu'en 1992, quand le dernier ocrier prit sa retraite. Le site est situé dans la commune de Rustrel dans le département de Vaucluse et la région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Les paysages insolites qu'il présente sont constitués de sable ocreux d'origine latéritique. Le Colorado provençal s'étend sur plus de 30 hectares, dans le massif du Luberon, à environ 10 km d’Apt. Des sentiers en terre parcourent des falaises érodées comprenant plus de 20 teintes d'ocre. Le site comprend le « cirque de Barriès », le « cirque de Bouvène », des bassins de décantation, des cheminées de fée, le « Sahara », le lit de la Dôa (petite rivière locale). Le chemin de grande randonnée GR 6 traverse le site. Les couleurs des ocres du Colorado provençal contrastent avec les tons de vert de la végétation. Il y a plusieurs millions d’années, la mer se retire en laissant derrière elle des bancs de sables enrichis d'une argile ayant pour particularité de contenir du fer, la glauconie. Le Roussillonnais Jean-Étienne Astier eut l'idée, à la fin du xviie siècle, de faire passer le sable dans des bassins de décantation pour en extraire l'ocre. Il le fit ensuite cuire pour en garder les propriétés colorantes. Six départements possédaient alors des gisements : le Vaucluse mais aussi le Cher, la Drôme, le Gard, la Dordogne et l'Yonne. L'arrivée du chemin de fer à Apt en 1877 permit l'exploitation intensive dans le Vaucluse. Créée en 1901, la Société des Ocres de France permit le développement du marché vers l'exportation. Les maxima de production furent atteints en 1929. L'arrivée des colorants synthétiques vint progressivement concurrencer les ocres naturelles.
Après un long déclin, l'exploitation des sites d'extraction s'arrête peu à peu. Seul le site de production de Gargas reste en activité. Devant la variété de couleurs et de paysages, une association se forme afin de sauvegarder le site et démarre alors une exploitation touristique. Cette association crée en 2009 l'Association du Colorado de Rustrel, avec pour partenaire la Mairie de Rustrel. Ensemble, elles gèrent le patrimoine exceptionnel du site.
The WiFi is a bit patchy down here in a distinctly balmy Fuerteventura, and I've no idea whether I'm going to manage to upload this successfully, but I thought I'd give it a try. So I'm currently leaning in the direction of the router in the resort reception and trusting my luck.
Of course this wasn't taken in the Canaries, although there are plenty of kite surfers patrolling the coast between Majanicho and El Cotillo on the northwest tip of the island. This was one from much closer to home a year ago, when the subject steered himself into the exact position I'd hoped for as his kite seemed to capture the burning globe in the sky and harness its power. Sometimes photography is difficult, but sometimes you just need to be in the right place at the right time to capture the moment.
Ironically, last night I was in the wrong place at the right time, but we'll come back to that when I can edit my shots at home.
Oh yes, and some of you might be waiting to hear about my exploits with the underwater camera. Well it would be better if if I could see the back of the screen when I'm nosing around the rocks in my swimming shorts. Maybe I'll try wearing my varifocals under my mask next time. It would also help if a young lady hadn't ventured into my lagoon stark naked as I fiddled about with my camera beneath the surface, but I did get there first. Suffice to say she didn't make it into the viewfinder - which of course I couldn't see anyway. Enough said.
Looking forward to catching up with your all when we're back and somewhere where the WiFi behaves.....

On the night of 26 November 2022, a demonstration took place in Middle Wulumuqi (Urumqi) Road, Shanghai in memory of the victims of the fire in Wulumuqi (Urumqi), Xinjiang, the casualties of which were caused by the building being locked up as a result of absurd anti-epidemic measures which made it impossible for residents to escape. The police ended up arresting many of the demonstrators and loading three police buses:

On the evening of the 27th, a large area of the neighbourhood where the demonstration took place last night was suddenly blocked off, allowing only people to leave and not enter, perhaps to prevent further demonstrations from gathering there.. A large number of people gathered at the intersections of the blocked-off neighbourhoods, which gradually festered into a new demonstration.
