Headed down to DC tonight to see the mall at night. The golden Freedom Wall, and reflecting pool, stand in a somber quite. The wall has 4,048 gold stars, each representing 100 Americans who died in the 2nd WW War.
Spent the day in Harpers Ferry WV, which is a cool historic town in Jefferson County, West Virginia. I don't know if the girl was looking at her reflection in the window or trying to look in the dark room, but the light was fantastic.
While doing my taxes this afternoon, this stink bug yelled out natural diptych time.
Taxes done, day over. Next.
Walking back from the Hirshhorn Museum, This little "Bugeye" smiled at me.
A British classic, on the streets of DC... 3 quick hand held snaps for later tonemapping, and I smiled back at this little gem. I hope I did it justice.
This week it will be Passover, the festival of Freedom. In this shot is the Haggadah (book) which means a telling: a narrative. The Passover Haggadah is the narrative that is read aloud at the Passover Seder. It is the story of the slavery of the people of Israel in Egypt and then their flight from it.
Happy Passover
L and and I got to hang out together this afternoon, playing, swinging and shooting in this fine hour was cold but so full of light, full of joy. I posted a "Capturing the sun" shot on day 19/365 but this one is totally different.
Catching the afternoon light train, breaking the rule of thirds (well part of it) and enjoying a shot of espresso. Snap! day 174 is history.
Moon rising over the Atlantic off the shore of Chincoteague Island, This was hand held, and after the shot, I just had to get wet. Now at home, back in the real world missing the Big Blue... until soon.

It was about time my dive gear got wet. I wish it was from a dive, and not a photo shoot, but its wet non the less. Low light long exposure and keeping the watch as focal point, but letting the eye explore, and the mind make up a story. Tone mapped, bracketed, de saturated, and added a tungsten filter to reduce the warm light.
When all are asleep the toys come out to play. After shooting my girls, we had some fun with the light box. I kept the crop to give the feel of tiptoeing in a dark room.
I couldn't decide which way to have the photo, with the light on the left or right. Then again, its just a Barbie doll, does it really matter ?

Back when I was 18, on the eve of my military service my good friends got me this Zippo as a farewell gift, I carry it to this day. Its been over a decade since a cigarette graced my lips, and I don't miss it, but I miss them, those days, those crazy times
To Y.S.G.Y.Y.N.Y.E and G
you are with me always.
Here's to friendship,
Cheers.
The plan was for lunch topside, but first...Photo of the day, here at the Bethesda Metro Station. I just love this escalator (475 feet long)
Finding serenity in the art of photography, the set up, thinking of exposure and balance. Stacking the river stones time and time again to get it right, not noticing the fleeting time, and the mind is clear. Zen.
Waiting for the last minute to get a shot in, one would think I would know better by this point in the project. Ten more days to go, and I am hungry.
Tonight we took the girls to see the Winter Lights at Seneca Creek State Park. Winter Lights benefit local charities such as the Gaithersburg Community Volunteer Soup Kitchen, Friends of Seneca Creek State Park, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and more. As I have learned, its best to shoot winter lights at dusk, missing that magical time, I opted for light trails, and thats always fun.
Spent the day at the Newseum in DC with the family. The Pulitzer Prize Photographs Gallery is amazing, those iconic images that we have all seen and been moved by, all in one room.
Reaching to the sky also in memory of Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros, the two photojournalists killed in Libya yesterday.
Found myself without a shot...glass on floor, plopping strawberries into a wine glass and catching it with the 50mm Lens worked, I love this lens. The strawberry was good as well.
When all else fails, espresso saves the day, in more ways then one.
Late afternoon light filtered by rain caught my eye,as I was pulling an espresso shot...so I shot it.
