empty sticky notes isolated over white

Our central train stations become more and more shopping malls with rail tracks somewhere in the underground. This is in Potsdam very early in the morning.

Yup, another big, empty room. "The rockingest songs, the emptiest venues" phrase was invented by Justin here in Baltimore.

I'd come very close to ending it all. Very close indeed. Not my life of course, but this whole exploring caper. For some reason, over a few hundred miles, and a few sites, I had turned into one of the worst explorers, not just in Britain, but world wide world. Site after site had seen a man, resembling a fat member of the Proclaimers, leaving, empty handed, camera still in the bag. Why waste the battery?

The catalogue of my ineptitude shocked me. Struggling to climb over a fence using a stile, difficulty in stepping through a hole in a fence that was big enough for a small family car to drive through, and, at one place a ghastly and horrific failure that resulted in approximately 9 sheets of Herras fencing crashing to the ground, creating a noise that much of Southern Britain would have heard.

The Cinderella Shoe Works, Worcester provided a faint glimmer of hope. Maybe this last shot, this final opportunity to redeem myself would do it. Catapult me back into the elite, restore the name Boxfrenzy back to the dizzying heights of explorers who do proper things. The view from the outside looked promising.

It was built in 1914 by JE Willis - his name carved on the grand frontage on Watery lane, Worcester. Worcester, renowned for its gloves and footwear was the place to get this sort of stuff from.

Would it be like this today? Would the factory be a wonderful time capsule to a bygone age, when Britain was Great, and the clank of machines, and the whir of drive belts provided the backdrop for a great industrial nation? Of course it wouldn't.

This was a dreadful blow. At this point I considered leaving instantly and taking up embroidery. This was not a good place. My kids would have been bored here. Surely there must be some tiny details, a reminder, a whisper from the past. I looked harder.

And saw some lino.

Oh dear. Should I take a close up of some peeling paint? Couple of light switches? Oh dear. Maybe stick to a couple of doors and windows before returning to the car, weeping.

I think that this is possibly the only place I have visited in the 250+ sites I have checked out that I have not found even one shoe. That kind of made it worse.
