I drove in here today and have never seen it looking so empty. Normally on a Sunday afternoon you'd be hunting for a space here.

I volunteered to photograph the 13th annual EMPTY BOWLS event benefiting the foodbank of Santa Barbara county... for a donation you can pick a handmade ceramic bowl, choose a delicious soup and bread from a local restaurant or market and proceeds go to help feed those members of our community wrestling with hunger or food insecurity.
Nice to see so many people come out to support a great cause.
Central Park, usually teeming with people, was empty today because of the cold. I stopped in the middle of a street that's usually a challenge to cross, with all the runners, bikers, horses and walkers, and took this picture. I had plenty of time.
Seattle Central Library, 1st floor. Thinking of those who had been lost in a bombing halfway round the world and the empty places their families were looking at, too.

From a recent night shoot around MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art)
Unfortunately MIMA wasn't illuminated but at one end of the building is this little cafe
For me, the scene was a little wistful; this softly lit little cafe waiting through the night for its pupose to begin with the coming day. I tried to capture this mood by emphasing the soft lighting and accentuating the contrast of the green seating with the orange cast from the lights.
On three consecutive Saturdays in the summer, nearly seven miles of New York City’s streets are opened up for everyone to play, run, walk and bike.
This is for my friend Christopher's Empty Bowl Challenge!
Together, we can fill an empty bowl.
Many of us have spare change lying around the house.
So, I, Diana Chao, pledge to complete the Empty Bowl Challenge by taking and posting a picture with an empty bowl, filling that bowl with spare change, and contributing that amount or more to help a family experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia and around the world.
Every year, the Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network (PIHN) hosts an event called the Empty Bowl Dinner that raises awareness about family hunger and homelessness. Every guest leaves with an empty hand-made bowl as a reminder that every night hundreds of families go hungry in the City of Philadelphia.
Learn more and donate at philashelter.org/index.php/how-to-help/donate/
Every donation helps a family experiencing homelessness. #emptybowlchallenge #PIHN
Also, if you have any stories of how you have been affected by the Empty Bowl Dinner, share it too!

To me, I see the light skidding across the bowl a symbol of hope and imminent brightness. You can just take a regular selfie, but hey, why not make some art in the process of helping others out?

Absolutely charming Polish stoneware, all genuine Made in Poland crockery!
A little slice of Bohemia in the Windsor end of Chapel Street, with it's eclectic selection of cuisines. A great atmosphere, 3 pages of vodkas plus another of vodka cocktails, and hearty soups and stews, Borsch, Vodka & Tears is much more than a vodka bar.

At the top of the Komtar Tower (by far the tallest building on the island of Penang) is what appears to be the abandoned remains of a nightclub or theatre. Today it is advertised as a viewing area, where you can walk around empty rooms looking out of the dirty windows and admire the view.
This room appeared to be a former suite perhaps for performers or guests of honour. Strangely the chair had been left in the middle of the room facing the TV instead of fantastic view.

After I scanned some crackle textures I scanned the scanner itself empty, with nothing on it but dirt and fingerprints - just to have the texture. I enhanced it in Photoshop. My scanner isn't really that dirty.
I don't usually upload similars but I spent too much time on cutting out the text from this book to not upload this version too...
Look below for the version with jumbled text.

Window into the empty shell of a building facing onto Gouger Street. from a back window. The glass louvres are doubly protected on the outside with chicken wire. and on the inside with a rusted metal grid. There are long poles propping up the building walls on the inside.

The result of the "banking crisis". There is no money anymore for frivolities like this .... If they had asked me where my Poll Tax had priority then it wouldn't have been on tarting up the town hall. The kiddies paddling pool is empty, deserted, but the town hall is looking great! That's democracy for you....l
