Phantom faces at the window Phantom shadows on the floor Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friends will meet no more `Songwriters: L. David Lewis / Kim Williams / Ed Hill

Although captured a bit before the pandemic, the picture is quite symbolic for the current situation.

A weathered soul, a silent sigh,

A house stands lone against the sky.

Where once a hearth held warmth and cheer,

Now emptiness and shadows peer.

The wind whispers tales untold,

Of laughter lost, of stories cold.

Each broken pane, a tear that's shed,

For dreams and days forever fled.

A storm brews high, a tempest near,

Yet fate's decree has long been here.

The house endures, a steadfast stand,

A monument to life's demand.

The clouds above, a heavy shroud,

Reflect the thoughts that linger 'round.

A haunting beauty, stark and bare,

A house of clouds, a soul laid bare.

Empty, like this room, like the reasons that brought me here, just now that I am on the edge of my personal event horizon, just now that time is so precious.

I really feel sorry for art gallery guards who have to spend their whole day in galleries mainly empty of visitors. I can't begin to imagine the boredom.

Welcome to the Empty Arms Motel in Somewhereville where , the TV has only one fuzzy channel, the microwave is broken, there are no hangers for your suit and the "Magic Motion Bed Vibrator" only works randomly usually without warning during the middle of the night. The amenities are hourly rates, plastic lined mattresses, no pesky valet parking or noisy swimming pool action, and none of those rude housekeeping maids expecting hefty tips. Book your stay now.

So many giant mills across the U.S. are stripped, abandoned and left empty... Detroit, Michigan

This is the arrival billboard outside of the Salt Lake City airport. I took this shot before picking up Jackson. Many of the flights on the board are shown as cancelled and most of the parking lots surrounding the airport were empty.

Found an empty workshop at lunchtime so wandered around with my Fuji

UP 5500, 7239, and 8064 lead an empty Richmond coal train along the Carquinez Strait east of Port Costa.

Coal empties roll through QN this evening as a WMATA Red LIne train soars overhead on its way into the Rhode Island Ave.-Brentwood Station. QN is up there with Greenbelt in "photos that are terribly lit 11 months of the year" so I wanted to get it today. Unlike Greenbelt, the sun never even really swings up to the nose at QN as the tracks run more east than west here. On the right is the connection to Washington Terminal, used by the Capitol Limited and MARC trains on their way into Union Station. Further to the right lies what was once Eckington Yard in the B&O days. The US Capitol dome pokes overhead in the background - it was once largely uncovered but new apartment developments near NoMa/Union Market sadly blocked the view starting last year.

Following an overnight ground frost, Bord na Móna LM270 (originally built by Hunslet, works no.7237, in 1971, but rebuilt in 2000 and 2017), struggles to gain traction as it works up the grade from Mountdillon with empties from Lanesborough power station for the Cloonkeel Bog. After passing its younger cousin, LM376 (Hunslet works no.9241 of 1984), it will set back on the line on the left, preceded by LM376, which will eventually act as a banking loco on the steep climb out of the loading point on the bog.

The white building in the background is a popular bakery in Glendale. For several months, this one-time service garage has served as a parking lot for the bakery. But, yesterday, when I took this photo, this lot was empty and the bakery closed. It is still closed as of this posting. The other service garage across the street is using this lot for their extra cars, as there isn't always room in their lot for them. (They do a lot of business.)

I don't know if there are plans to finally tear down this structure. The Public Works truck was there, just before I took this photo. But so far nothing else has happened.

It's amazing that when you live in a large city, there are areas that remain completely unknown to you, This is more noticeable, I feel when one lives in an unattractive city in particular. You avoid whole areas either because it takes forever to get out there, or because you have a bias against them. I feel like I know the West end much better then the East end for the more practical reasons of where I live vs, where I worked and went to school. I never attended a university campus I could walk to go to or even a job that I could casually walk to. You end up driving or riding the bus and seeing entire areas you have no connection to. This is very useful when you are a photographer. Or at least it was until you started seeing everything on social media.

This place was undeveloped in 2009 because it was considered a flood plain and not suitable for development. Today it is still an empty lot, suprisingly. Not at all surprised the city hasn't done something more useful with it, like making it a park, there is a whole community to the right with not many options.

A quiet place to reflect .....

Treat your love ones with loving care, for you will know their value, when you see their empty chair.

Nothing makes a room feel emptier than wanting someone in it.
