Abandoned farm, Sjónarhóll, on Reykjanes Penisula.

This cabin stands at the intersection of the Glenn and Richardson Highways in Glennallen. It started as a Visitors Center, and has also been used by Alaskan artists to display their works. Right now it simply waits to see who will bring it to life come spring.

It is a sturdy cabin - and I find the corner construction interesting. Most folks cut the logs off evenly. I find the random lengths delightful.

"the vast emptiness of space"

By Tomasz Wasik TLW Photography

The world seems to stand still at times like these. All seems dead, everything is gone, yet all you need, is a little push, to make everything go into a jazzy swing.

"Foggy and dreary,

Walking through these streets,

Empty and eerie,

Alone in these dreams,

As the reflections slowly fall,

Into my memory stream,

I wander through all the walls,

Between these empty streets."

I thought in my heart, "Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good." But that also proved to be meaningless.

I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly

I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and women singers, and a harem as well—the delights of the heart of man.

I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure.

This too is a grievous evil:

As a man comes, so he departs,

and what does he gain,

since he toils for the wind?

but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.

This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead.

Now all has been heard;

here is the conclusion of the matter:

Fear God and keep his commandments,

for this is the whole duty of man.

For God will bring every deed into judgment,

including every hidden thing,

whether it is good or evil.

A stunning pristine white beach, clear turquoise waters, sunny skies. The stunning white beach is typical of what can be found all along Scotland's north-western coastline. Seen on a glorious day in early October!

This view shows the main beach at Achmelvich (Gaelic: Achadh Mhealbhaich) in Sutherland. The name comes from the Gaelic "Achadh" - a plain or meadow and "mealvaich" - sandy dunes. It is a (very) small settlement at the far end of a single-track road with a Youth Hostel (seen on the right above), campground, caravan park, laundrette, shop and take-away.

Dogs are banned from the beach during the main tourist season and are also not permitted at the campground and caravan park.

The picnic tables at Bird's Hill Park were empty today as it was -20C outside.

Empty Play Field near sea wall. Green emptiness and space. Behind this basketball playing field and dyke you'll find the Wadden Sea. Was Hans Brinker playing here before he put his thumb in the dyke? Wide angle photo taken at Wadden island Texel, Holland. (org size 4900 x 3200)

I've been wanting to photograph an empty car park for weeks now, but everytime I go to one there is always someone around no matter what time it is. Yesterday I was out at Sydney Olympic Park and I thought I might try my luck in one of it's multi level carparks. Success!

"What shall we use to fill the empty spaces"

Why trucks, of course!

Off in the distance our NYS&W Alco #260 pulls at a cut of double stack container cars into what is left of the Maybrook Switching Terminal just to have them depart into the opposite direction once the "shuffle" is complete.

Once having 177 tracks totaling 71 miles and hosting six class one railroads, this is indeed a sad sight to behold. Although traffic through the "Railroad Gateway to the East" had dwindled through the 60's, the final nail in the coffin of this great railroad town was in May of 1974 when the Pann Central bridge over the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, NY mysteriously burned and essentially severing the gateway.

Today, Yellow/Roadway truck transportation take up much of what was once the yard and even some buildings built by the Central New England Railroad. I've heard that the maintenance shop is still called the "back shop" by the ones who work there. So this little village in northern Orange County still holds the title, although changed a bit, as the Transportation Gateway to the East", but it's all done by rubber tires. If you look close enough, you'll see that even Conrail had jumped the fence.

It portrays the state of spirit felt by many human beings. An empty on the inside, where nothing makes sense, making them not knowing where to go, or what to do. Leads them to a state where they do not know who they are anymore, where they stop believing in themselves. It’s like if they were a dry flower, already old, in a field burned by the sun, without life, which allows to be taken by the strong wind, without hesitate, without fighting, because they are not sure if that is their place. Perhaps with the hope to find themselves or an answer during the journey. This state of spirit let the human being without emotions, apathic, allowing life passing right in front of their eyes without trying to grab it. The strenght went with the wind, which tries to show them that they are alive, still. But, not even this shakes helps, because there is no more strenght in them to grab something, where even the simple act of screaming vanished. This beings let themselves being taken and like that every little piece of their being abandon them. In the end, perhaps, it is all fault of the wind.
