Et41-102 with empty Fals-type wagons (they are commonly called "talbots" here) as a freight train from Warszawa Praga to probably one of several coal mines in Silesia is passing now Warszawa Główna Towarowa station. March 14, 2020.

Couple of facts. One, this locomotive has been modernized, what is indicated by air conditioner on the roof, new headlamps, and new glass in windows. And nowadays you can't spot unmodernized ET41 class locomotive in working condition. Two, the locomotive has a Czech/Slovak safety system installed, because together with this equippment the old full pantographs are replaced to new "half-pantos".

We spent an enjoyable day at Beamish, the living history museum in Durham, the North East of England.

This was our 2nd visit and we still haven't seen it all!

If you're interested in social history, I'd highly recommend you visit here; it's quite pricey but definitely worth it!

Not often that this bridge is empty of people. First time in all the years I have been to the gardens I have see it so

How fitting that this empty spray can lay at the feet of this photographer to find. Looks like this artist was very busy indeed.

Two veteran cream and green SD70MAC's, BNSF 9437 & 9531, roll westbound with coal empties, in a photo that just says western Nebraska, with hay rolls and the Sand Hills, as they close in on a crew change in Alliance.

CSX's Waterville Yard looks empty and barren compared to the Pan Am days. This is mainly due to the significant scrapping of old equipment that CSX has been doing over the past year. However, the old Russells have miraculously escaped the torch, for now.

Thank you to The Royal Cinema in Faversham for letting me in before opening time to take these! For the most part, I like the grain.

"What shall we use to fill the empty spaces"

Why trucks, of course!

Off in the distance our NYS&W Alco #260 pulls at a cut of double stack container cars into what is left of the Maybrook Switching Terminal just to have them depart into the opposite direction once the "shuffle" is complete.

Once having 177 tracks totaling 71 miles and hosting six class one railroads, this is indeed a sad sight to behold. Although traffic through the "Railroad Gateway to the East" had dwindled through the 60's, the final nail in the coffin of this great railroad town was in May of 1974 when the Pann Central bridge over the Hudson River at Poughkeepsie, NY mysteriously burned and essentially severing the gateway.

Today, Yellow/Roadway truck transportation take up much of what was once the yard and even some buildings built by the Central New England Railroad. I've heard that the maintenance shop is still called the "back shop" by the ones who work there. So this little village in northern Orange County still holds the title, although changed a bit, as the Transportation Gateway to the East", but it's all done by rubber tires. If you look close enough, you'll see that even Conrail had jumped the fence.

Not the most interesting photo but its an unusual sight of a completely empty corridor and people mover at Narita Airport. We landed very early. Japan

I got a chuckle out of running into this empty ethanol train coming back from Norfolk Southern. Often I see ethanol trains coming east with Union Pacific power led by a single Norfolk Southern cab-signal-equipped engine in the Harrisburg, PA area. East of North Platte, NE on the Kearney Subdivision, it was the exact opposite.

From the series Empty [#1.1-1.6]:

The artifacts of commerce lie fallow in an apparently empty major port city. The red/copper/green palette evokes a muddled American banknote. These cues prompt the viewer to examine our complicated relationship with commerce: its necessity, how it benefits humanity, and the need to make sure it is constrained by a substantive focus on human well-being.
