Most of us at 3Sixty attended his talk at the Arnolfini. The talk was about — 'We are all born with tremendous natural capacities, but that we lose touch with them as we spend more time in the world.'
The most dominant element of the lobby is the mural that spans the width of the entrance wall and rises with the stairwell to the second floor's ceiling.
It was painted by John F. Holmer, who wove both political and playful messages into it. Though depicting a festive fair and carnival scene at Old Coney Island, the people in the mural are strangely sober, almost submissive. Hunched backs, averted faces, and somber expressions populate the cavnvas.
In the original rendering, each man in the mural also sported a Hitler-esque moustache. Whatever social commentary the German-born Holmer intended was eliminated when the building's original owners demanded a change; the painted-over sections above the men's lips are, however, still visible.
