As we made our way through the Nicola Valley, the shadows grew longer, and the colors got more intense. Time of day is the first component in the broth for capturing those wicked colors. When the sun gets lower in the sky, cool blue rays are slowly replaced with warm red rays. And, adding a polarizing filter to both remove stray white light, and saturate colors, is the second part.
The third element to successfully capturing those rich colors, is to do so after it rains, which had recently happened. This in turn clears the atmosphere of various particulates, sort of like cleaning the front element of your lens. Now with all three ingredients of my recipe in place, it is no wonder this is my favourite time to shoot a landscape.

Es un edificio monumental de 40 metros de altura y 11 plantas construido en un estilo ecléctico basado en la Escuela de Chicago, con elementos decorativos de estilo neobarroco y art decó. Fue pionero en el empleo de hormigón armado y la piedra artificial en la fachada y elementos decorativos.
I don’t know how we came across this rock exactly as my father used to collect interesting lumps of rock. We have granite from Cornwall which was going to be my first choice but the I remembered about this copper containing rock. There are circular holes in the rock so I assume that there must be a volcanic element to it tough I cannot be sure.

A nice spring sky reflected on one of the sides of the Darmstadtium congress center in Darmstadt, Germany. Darmstadtium is both the name of this wonderfully photogenic building and of the transuranic element 110, which was synthesized in a research center close to town.
Happened to notice this scene while driving along the edge of a large thunderstorm recently. Of course my camera was at home, but I did have a smartphone. I turned around quickly and happened to be near this farm. The old windmill was perfectly positioned for the photo. The sky was full of texture and deep tones. But it was the rainbow that caught my attention. The intensity of color and brightness near the horizon was breathtaking. The moment lasted just a minute or two. The rainbow faded away right before my eyes. The event reminded me of the need to react spontaneously when the need arises. And this can be difficult when driving. The natural human tendency is to just keep on going while you debate whether or not to turn back. Had I driven on for another mile before turning around, the moment would have been lost.

Ok, I promised no more Sunsets for a while and since I don't seem to go anywhere nowadays all I can do is point my lens in the opposite direction.

I was following this group of noisy greylag geese with my camera when they suddenly turned and flew in front of this beautiful piece of sky. Lucky shot and I love it.

The Colorado River, a small element in these views along the rim, a great element in the geology of this seventh wonder of the world.
Pied-billed Grebe surfaces as I'm trying to photograph a Snowy Egret. My settings were dialed in for the all-white Snowy and then the Grebe surfaced in the shadow. Serendipity!
