Percorrendo a história das cidades, percebe-se a enorme importância dos rios como elementos de organização do território, da macro à micro-escala geográficas. Os rios, mesmo os de mau navegar, eram estradas de água que levavam ao oceano e por aí uniam terras longínquas. No código genético das cidades e da urbanização, este efeito relacional é da maior importância:
sem trocas não existe sociedade, nem, muito menos, cidade, porto e Porto.
Manoel de Oliveira no seu “Douro, Faina Fluvial” (1931) documenta admiravelmente a intensidade desta cidade mercantil junto ao rio e que teve no séc. xix uma acelerada transformação: alfândega, pontes, armazéns, fábricas, cais, dragagens, eletricidade, gaz, elétrico, caminho-de-ferro…
Tudo isso acabou. O rio é agora um cenário, uma imagem poderosa, um ícone, um espetáculo. A função portuária transformou-se em emoção estética. Da nobilitação da zona histórica e monumental, aos novos projetos de raiz para terrenos desocupados ou edifícios industriais obsoletos, a “febre do Douro” acelera ao ritmo da filoxera na vinha no séc. xix. Entre o regozijo de quem vende e de quem compra, nota-se uma difícil compatibilização de valores assentes na defesa de valores paisagísticos, culturais e ambientais, por um lado, e, por outro, na aceleração das procuras e das ofertas de imobiliário mais ou menos genérico ou distinto.
Nem a Afurada escapa a esta poderosa turbinadora.

O maior festival de Hip Hop do Distrito Federal, Elemento em Movimento, fez muita história na 4° edição do evento, que acontece anualmente, e chegou a receber mais de 50 atrações e atividades culturais e de formação. Nascido e criado em Ceilândia, o Elemento em Movimento tem a temática desse ano "De Rolê na Quebrada" na ideia de somar todas quebradas do Distrito Federal num só encontro de Cultura de Rua.
O festival foi realizado nos dias 5 e 6 de Setembro, e contou com presenças e nomes da cultura de rua de diversas regiões do Brasil, conectando as forças na quebrada, com: Gutierrez, Rashid, Flora Mattos, Bnegão e Seletores de Frequência, Tribo de Jah, Rael da Rima, Rapadura Xique Chico e muito mais da cultura hip hop brasileira.

Le Cinquième Élément (The Fifth Element) est un film de science-fiction français coécrit et réalisé par Luc Besson, sorti en 1997.
Nommé aux César et aux Oscars, le film obtient trois César dont celui du meilleur réalisateur.
The Fifth Element (French: Le Cinquième Élément) is a 1997 English-language French science fiction action film directed and co-written by Luc Besson. It stars Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman and Milla Jovovich. Primarily set in the 23rd century, the film's central plot involves the survival of planet Earth, which becomes the responsibility of Korben Dallas (Willis), a taxicab driver and former special forces major, after a young woman (Jovovich) falls into his cab. To accomplish this, Dallas joins forces with her to recover four mystical stones essential for the defence of Earth against the impending attack of a malevolent cosmic entity.
Besson started writing the story that became The Fifth Element when he was 16 years old; he was 38 when the film opened in cinemas. Besson wanted to shoot the film in France, but suitable facilities could not be found; filming took place in London and Mauritania instead. Comics artists Jean "Moebius" Giraud and Jean-Claude Mézières, whose books provided inspiration for parts of the film, were hired for production design. Costume design was by Jean-Paul Gaultier.
The Fifth Element received mainly positive reviews, although it tended to polarise critics. The film won in categories at the British Academy Film Awards, the César Awards, the Cannes Film Festival, and the Lumières Awards, but also received nominations at the Golden Raspberry and Stinkers Bad Movie Awards. The Fifth Element was a financial success, earning more than $263 million at the box office on a $90 million budget. At the time of its release, it was the most expensive European film ever made and remained the highest-grossing French film at the international box office until the release of The Intouchables in 2011.

The Doctor Who radio serial "The Apocalypse Element" is one of my favorite Sixth Doctor serials. For fun, I decided to redesign the original cover art with a slightly more modern twist.
It was created entirely from scratch with the exception of using a few Doctor Who screenshots.

The head section of the platform took a bit of engineering. The toughest part was figuring out where the legs go, once you move the seats forward the Element floor was uneven.
This is also where the screw-in Sultan legs came in handy, as we can unscrew the bottom portion of the legs and store them until we are ready to assemble the full platform.
We positioned the legs where we thought we would need the most support. We ended up using 13 legs overall, which felt like overkill at the time, but the platform is so stable and firm, it was worth it.
