This really is a no-brainer. My father stands under his sign in Chicago back in 2011. We should have stopped in to sample our grill's board of fare, but that would have been burning daylight. He enjoyed visiting Chicago while I lived out there 1997 through 2019.

On the morning of 3/28/2024 Dad passed away after a quick battle with cancer. He will be missed.

27th BCT Patch Ceremony by 401st_AFSB

Twenty-seven Soldiers from the 27th Brigade Combat Team, CENTCOM Materiel Recovery Element, currently working with the 401st AFSB received combat patches in a ceremony at the AFSBn-Bagram, 401st AFSB headquarters May 12. Soldiers who participate in combat operations are entitled to wear the combat patch of the unit they serve with or with another unit they previously served with in combat operations.

About the 401st:

The 401st Army field Support Brigade provides Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, and Marines, the tools and resources necessary to complete the mission. If they shoot, drive it, fly it, wear it, eat it or communicate with it, the 401st helps provide it. The brigade assists coalition partners with many of their logistical and sustainment needs. The brigade also handles the responsible disposition of equipment in Afghanistan to support evolving missions. We are the single link between Warfighters in the field, and working through Army Sustainment Command, we leverage Army Materiel Command’s worldwide Materiel Enterprise to develop, deliver, and sustain materiel to ensure a dominant joint force for the U.S. and our Allies.

Noch ist es nicht winterlich, doch die im strömenden Regen auf Einlass wartenden Fans kriegen am Dienstagabend bereits einen Vorgeschmack auf die garstige Jahreszeit. Element Of Crime weiss im gut gefüllten Volkshaus bald mit einem Exkurs über den Winter zu trösten. Sven Regener singt mit prosaischer Stimme, wie er seiner Liebe auf das «brüchige Eis deiner Jugend» auf einem Baggersee folgt, einzig darum, weil: «Seit ich dich kenne, mag ich es gerne, wenn der Winter kommt - dann wird's früher dunkel.» Dann bläst er den Worten verträumte Trompetenstösse hinterher.

Zuvor hat der Sänger und Texter der Berliner Gruppe augenzwinkernd erklärt, er mache gerne Witze, weil ja alles so traurig sei. Melancholisch zumindest klingt einmal mehr auch das letztjährige Album von Element Of Crime, «Mittelpunkt der Welt», das an diesem Abend im Zentrum steht. Regener, der vermutlich als Schriftsteller mittlerweile bekannter ist («Herr Lehmann»), besticht in diesen Liedern einmal mehr mit feinsinnigen Beschreibungen von zerbröckelnder Zweisamkeit. Stoisch stellt er einmal fest: «Du merkst, dass der Klang deiner Stimme mir keine Liebeslieder mehr singt.» Ein andermal blitzt Schalk auf: «Finger weg von meiner Paranoia, die war mir immer lieb und teuer, nie liess sie mich so kalt im Stich wie du.»

Neben solchem Witz und einiger Komik liegt es vor allem an der Musik, dass diese Lieder nicht deprimieren, sondern tröstlich wirken. Die vier Musiker spielen sympathisch unaufgeregt und mit offensichtlichem Spass, schaffen mit feinem Handwerk eine behagliche Grundlage für die Texte. Zunehmend kommen auch ältere Songs zum Zug, allerdings nicht die englischen aus der Anfangsphase der 1985 gegründeten Band - das Englisch beschränkt sich auf die letzte Zugabe: «Across The Universe» von den Beatles.

Höhepunkte im über zwei Stunden dauernden Konzert sind eine rockige Interpretation von «Immer unter Strom» und eine zarte Version von «Weisses Papier». Beglückende Wehmut unter den mit den Musikern gealterten Fans kommt auf, als gegen Schluss gesungen wird: «Wir taumeln durch die Strassen, so als wären wir jung und schön, Schlaf ist jetzt nur ein Irrtum, und die Musik tut nicht mehr weh.»
