Almost ready to test.
Input is 50V p-p AC from a wall wart. Output is ±1–24VDC (trimmer adjusted) regulated by a standard LM317/LM337 circuit.
Pins underneath meet the pair of rails on a standard breadboard.
Both regulator circuits were tested on the breadboard first, so I'm just looking for soldering and wiring errors. And I need to add the 2 x Cadj capacitors and one diode to feed the negative smoothing capacitor.
The Adafruit protoboard is only just big enough…
Here's the back of the circuit board. it appears that the "S1" device triggers or is triggered by the 3-watt power, which extends through the wall, around my apartment, and out by the door. Almost every apartment on the floor has a wire coming out above the door.
This is the PC board I designed tonight. I've not verified it yet, but it matches the schematic that I've been running on a breadboard. If I fab this, I'll have a 4x4 RGB display that can plug into the top of an Arduino board.
I'd probably want to add a couple more features to this; it could use a reset button, and it would be really nice to add another row of pins next to the Arduino pins. I've also used a jumper for the programming signals to the TLC5940 chips instead of hard coding them to make it easier to rework the circuit.
This is being tested using a 1kV anode voltage instead of the 8kV on the datasheet. The filament voltage is regulated at 1V with a 3.3Ω series resistor. Modulation voltage is 12V. Acceleration (55v) and Focus (31-55v) are approximately in proportion with the original ratios.

Testing a NaI(Tl) probe I got lying around for some time. Using documentation from the company that build these probes, Scionix, I was able to make a voltage divider and solder it to the tube socket. Later I will put it in a proper housing with BNC sockets and a mu metal shield against the Earths magnetic field, which can influence the performance of the probe by bending electrons in the photomultiplier.
Testing is done with a Cs-137 doped spark gap lying on the workbench.
I use my old Hameg 15 Mhz scope to view the pulses. It is fine for general electronics, but the steep pulses from the PMT are difficult for the scope to display properly. I need to get a better scope or just put a RC filter in line with the probe to lengthen the pulses.

Father of a friend bought this computer a few years ago; brought it to us because it would no longer work and wanted to see if we could restore it to life. Could not. In fact, a search of the web turned up all kinds of horror stories on this model - a very high-end machine with two (count 'em, two!) disk drives and a fingerprint detector security device. Basically a lemon of a design.
Ultimately the computer was beyond my desire - and that of the owner - to repair; sounded like a motherboard replacement is the typical repair path with this and even then you're at risk of a future failure. Fortunately the drives were just fine so we just pulled the useful info off of them for him.
I made a trip to the recycling facility. The car couldn't safely hold anymore stuff. It was a good day. The recycling effort by Allegheny County was noble in that it raised money for the humane society of Western PA.
