When it gets a bit too warm outside for all that other stuff I've been mentioning (and trust me, around these parts, those overly warm days are coming soon!), stay inside and watch a movie or two. This particular Fred's seemed to have just a bit more of these electronic/entertainment items than many of the others I visited, which makes sense given the amount of vacation homes in this area.

Serious electronics, inside an abandoned manufacturing plant. This location no longer exists.
Night, totally dark space, 30 second exposure. Natural LED flashlight and lime-gelled strobe.
Far more interesting when viewed LARGE!
During a recent stay in Lancaster, I went for a walk up to Williamson park hoping to get some sweeping views of Lancaster town, with Morecombe bay in the distance. However I had only begun shooting when a rainstorm broke, my non-waterproofed Pentax Kr barely escaping with its electronics intact. Whilst sheltering on the veranda of the Ashton Memorial I had several attempts at taking a panorama of the view.

The recording and playback circuitry of a Revox G36 Mark III reel-to-reel tape deck, with all but one tube (valve) in a neat row, slider-ized.
Yet another view here that could very well have been from the old Southaven TM location. There were quite a few more electronics items in this store, as compared to the newer Southaven location.

In the beginning, the idea of paying for insurance to cover my photography gear was at the bottom of my priority list. After all, there are so many other pieces of equipment that I wanted to get my hands on. But through the years, my equipment list grew to an amount that is worth more than my car and the simple act of lugging that much gear around started to make me nervous. On an average shooting day, I would have two 5D Mark IIs, two 580EX IIs, 85mm f/1.2L, 35mm f/1.4L, 17-40mm f/4L, a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS and three pocket wizards (not to mention a Macbook Pro when I'm on the road), plus accessories. It's much more than a sack of electronics - thats my future career on the line. It would only take one brief moment for a thief to take it all away from me.
So i decided to get my equipment insured… Initially, I didn't really know where to go and I ended up on a photography website which offers a discount on insurance for any member of their website. Other than that, I couldn't find much information on photography insurance, so I had no choice but to sign up.
Signing up was easy. You login, send in your credit card information and a list of equipment and you would receive an email notification that you were "covered" by some obscure insurance company that you've never heard of. And even though I was "technically" insured, I still didn't have the confidence that I would be safe in case anything happened. It was that sense of uneasiness that got me.
About a year passed by and I finally decided that I was going to switch my automotive insurance over to State Farm because I wanted an insurance company that could cover both my car and my new motorcycle at the same time. Thats when I met my current insurance agent, ThuyVu. The thing that struck me about ThuyVu is that she wasn't anything like the other insurance agents I've dealt with in the past. For one thing, she is one of the top agents in the country.. and on the other hand, she is also an underground house DJ, a classically trained musician, a Tae Kwon Do black belt and does voice-over for video games. FINALLY, I had the chance to work with someone that understood art and how important photography is to me. It didn't feel l like I was talking to an Insurance Agent as much as it felt like I was talking to a friend. And best of all, she was able to explain my insurance policies with crystal clarity, and fully insure all of my photography gear too.
So if you are thinking about insuring your gear, I highly recommend ThuyVu. Not only did she beat the rates of her competitors, her service was leaps and bounds above them.
Check her out (and mention you found her n Flickr!)

Seasonal occupies the back left corner of the store, and electronics has been in the front left location for the vast majority of the store's lifetime, if not from day one. (Doubtful it'll be remaining there however). I seem to remember very early models of computers more front and center within a Target, but this could very well be a memory from the old Hickory Hill location. No doubt though that computer software was (and I belive a small selection still is) in that more central location, evidenced by this photo of a directory from a much earlier time.
And unfortunately, I've had to color correct the green neon slightly as well, though it's nowhere near as far off as the red neon. Still not 100% happy with this result, so hoping my next view of it looks even better.

WEEK 30 – Sam's Club Pre-Remodel, Set I
With all of those overview shots out of the way, we're backtracking slightly in order to explore the first department you see upon entering the store, electronics. It's immediately off to your left after you show your membership card to the greeter, in fact. This shot also affords us our first glimpse at the décor package this club has. In line with the current atmosphere for Sam's, this sign is straightforward indeed – it gets the job done, and lacks much additional extravagance – but I have to say, it looks both stylish and sturdy, especially for a store of this nature! I'm afraid that the remodel will skimp on 3D signs like this, and we'll be left with flimsy paperboard hanging signs in all the departments instead... :(

An overview of the electronics desk (still rocking P97 style!), which is the centerpiece of the section itself. You'll note that this store has electronics and entertainment, while nearby, still technically separated. The departments are separated in new stores as well, I suppose, but they're right beside each other rather than across an aisle and oriented in a different direction.

And here's another view of the Jackson TM electronics items. Actually this looks like it was just panned to the right a bit from the previous photo I uploaded of this section.
