Lucy Aldrich Osband was born in 1835 and joined the faculty of the Michigan State Normal School in 1882. She retired in 1895 and died in 1912.
More than 700 applicants attended the DMPS Educator Fair at the Iowa Events Center on Saturday, January 11. The district plans to fill approximately 200 positions for next school year. Thank you to everyone who attended, and for the great work that went into another successful career fair!
Dr. Karen Foster, assistant professor of English, received the Distinguished Educator of the Year Award. Foster is known as an outstanding teacher whose activities extend to the greater Dickinson community. Foster was chosen for her consistent and tireless contributions to the DSU community and her students. She has a reputation for setting high standards and going above and beyond to help her students succeed. Foster received her bachelor of arts at Augustana College, her master of arts from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion and her doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Techno Chaos worked with educators across Houston to exhibit 11 different educational robotics programs in one coordinated display (shown here in the foreground) at the Houston Mini Maker Faire. This enabled parents and students to see and engage with real projects, students and teachers to learn how they can leverage educational robotics to build critical skills for the future. Programming, design, 3D printing, Arduino, hacking and modding were all on display too, as well as more than 20 young inventors. A real festival for the creative mind!

On June 18-19 ICAN and ICAN Austria brought social change innovators, educators, and nuclear weapons experts from across the globe together in Vienna, for a unique civil society gathering ahead of the first Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Dozens of educators, energy managers and facility directors from across the U.S. recently visited the HVACR lab at College of DuPage for a tour of the College’s state-of-the-art HVACR training labs.

Because I'm a volunteer, the staff allowed me to enter the enclosure where they were presenting an education program -- this time about Doug, the African gray parrot. My plan was to photograph Doug in the foreground, with the educator and her audience in the background.
Things didn't work out as I planned! It seems that Doug loves to be photographed. So, no matter how subtle I tried to be, he turned his back to his admirers, for the sake of the camera's attention!

Educators, economists, workers, religious and community leaders and business owners and executives converged on the State House to show their support for a bill to increase the state minimum wage to $15 an hour. The #Fightfor15 is aimed at making sure workers can earn a living wage of $15 an hour, so they can make ends meet and feed their families.
I photographed local AIDS activist and educator Kat Griffith for the September issue of POZ Magazine for an article on HIV-positive women and violence. We shot this on a Friday night back in July and covered a couple of different locations up and around Metamora (where Kat lives now) before heading to downtown Peoria for a few more shots.
The shot they ran with for the magazine however was almost one of the first shots we took that evening - where Kat curled up in a chair on her mother's porch.

H4+ is a joint effort by UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women, WHO and the World Bank, governments and civil societies of 36 countries with high burdens of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity. In each country, H4+, Ministry of Health officials and partners team up to address the reproductive maternal, newborn and child health issues and help coordinate support for national maternal and newborn health policies and plans. In 20 of 36 countries, Canada, Sida, France and Johnson & Johnson provided key funding to support this collaborative work. The H4+ serves as the lead technical partners for the UN Secretary-General’s Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health and the subsequent Every Woman Every Child movement.
