Description: Educator and founder of the Palmer Memorial Institute in Sedalia, North Carolina, Charlotte Eugenia Hawkins Brown was active in the National Council of Negro Women, the N.C. Teachers Association, etc., and was the first black woman to serve on the national board of the YWCA. She lectured and wrote about black women, education, and race relations.

Clyde E. Foster was a member of the Music Department faculty and was listed as the supervisor of Public School Music. Listed as a member of the faculty from 1900 through 1937, Foster died in 1938.

All4Education, supported by Education Out Loud – GPE’s fund to support civil society – is ensuring more children with disabilities have access to quality education through advocacy efforts and gathering missing data for changemakers to acknowledge the challenge. According to data from 2021 more than 80% of children with disabilities are now attending school. This is an impressive achievement considering that in 2010 only 44% of children attended school.

Probably the 'best photo of the day' award goes to Rowan. He had already tried to use our 'Big Biscuit-cam' which didn't work, but on his second attempt using 'Farrow and Ball-cam' he got this stunning result.

It was proclaimed Read Across America Day in celebration of the birthday of Dr. Seuss. Kids young and old came to the library to enjoy the reading of Dr. Seuss books and the eating of birthday cake.

 

Plus all kids who came got a copy of The Cat in the Hat and a Cat-in-the-Hat-hat thanks to our event partner - the Guilford County Association of Educators!

 

Campers explore dunes, hike forest trails, wade through wetlands, fish, snorkel and sail on Lake Huron while educators and scientists teach them about the Great Lakes ecosystem.
