Recently I discovered that I like taking pictures of lights. This light fixture was in a dumpling restaurant that I went to. It's one of the most unusual ones I have seen.
In Xi'an we were treated to a dinner of nothing but dumplings - a northern Chinese dish because wheat is grown in the north.
Dumplings (饺子) are synonymous with the Chinese, and there are many ways of cooking this ultra-delicious food. It can be cooked in just water, hence the term "water dumplings", or pan fried over low to medium heat like the "pot-stickers" (锅贴) above. The fillings are typically pork, cabbage, chives and shrimps.
Just a few days after I had arrived back in NYC, I had a date with my Mom & Dad for some "dai-pai-dong" eatin' in Flushing. "Dai-pai-dong" means "street food carts" in Cantonese, but in Flushing many of these carts are sequestered in indoor malls.
My dad is a regular at this little stall in the Shi Hong Mall, Gui Zhen Small Dishes. I will probably be dreaming about their dumplings when I'm back in Korea...
That same day, the NY Times came out with an article about these food stalls in Flushing.
Miles choice for his birthday dinner with the family was to go to Din Tai Fung in Bellevue and eat dumplings and fried rice.

The Polish have their version of dumplings too! They were called "Silesian pastries" at the restaurant where we ate lunch. Once again... I think I would have been equally happy eating a whole plateful of dumplings only, with their soaked up sauce.... and in any case, I have never been a big fan of huge chunks of meat.
You seemed not to want straight-up Easter, partner. I hope I read that correctly because I definitely made a dumpling leaning spring rather than Easter. I have been loving sticking these little bear paw blocks on different pouches and hope you like the results because it's coming your way! Filled with goodies, of course.

Hand so fast, they are but a blur. Dumplings being made by the chef at Noodle Kingdom Restaurant, Box Hill. Excellent noodles, dumplings and steamed buns..
All girls tonight were working really hard, we tried to pose nicely for the last photo before start our dinner, but one seemed cant wait any longer...:PPP
Sadly, wonton wrapper dumplings really, really really don't steam well. Their skins are too thin, and the dough practically falls apart. Mucho aggravation. In the end, I carefully plopped them into an oiled pan, and made pot-stickers, which were far more structurally sound.
