I have been wearing ponytail dreads for years that I made for myself, and always get compliments. So, I've decided to make them for others.
These Ponytail dreadlocks are perfect for the colorful & wild at heart who has to look "proper" at times. Made from hand-dyed felted wool, these multi-colored dreads are attached to a ponytail holder, making them removable from your hair. Wear them down with your ponytail, or wrap them around in a bun and secure with a hair stick. For a hair stick, you can use an actual hair stick, a chop stick, paintbrush, pencil, or double-pointed knitting needle.

I took out my baby dreads out temporarily (on June 14) because my senior pictures are in two weeks and they would still look really gnarly, but I'll put them right back in, probably the same day :)
This picture is of right after I took the rubber bands out, but before I combed and washed. There was some clumping, but most of the original backcombing had fallen out. We'll d better next time.
The whole process didn't take long, because of how immature the dreads were (less than two weeks). I think removing the rubber bands actually took longer than the combing.

It is all inside you
You who are you
what are you
where are you
when are you
Going to wake up
Maybe one day
Maybe Sunday
The supposed holy day
Okay okay
Religion can be a crutch
I don't like it so much
Being one with nature
Being one with the universe
who's first who's first
who's last
who will get to heaven fast
does it exist
or is it the summerlands
I know that's my place
I am such a disgrace
to all of those door to door jehovah witnesses
Get out of my buisnesses
Who are you
What are you
Does the book tell you
My son drew a design of the Earth Bending Symbol and knottysleeves interepreted it beautifully in this dread sleeve creation.
I am
The blossom
In the night
Getting into your senses
Making you dizzy
Making you sleepy
Making your world
Unbelievable

was messing around with my dreads trying to come-up with a medusa style up-do and this is what it looked like when I was all done.
I really hate taking self portraits. The process of taking 45 pictures of oneself just to get the right shot of my hair?.... ...can we say ego stroke, boys and girls? The ends are all wispy and I seem to have had little shrinkage since Handsome put them in. I love having dreads. You should too, if you haven't already. All the cool kids are doing it....
It started hailing as I went to take this photo, now it's sunny again... love springtime in the UK. I also look like I'm about to burst into tears which isn't the case, but it was the only half decent shot of the dreadlocks I had.
So a year of dreadlocks - do I have any regrets? No. The reason for locking it up in the first place was to learn to let go and accept myself for who I am regardless of how I look. Yes it's been frustrating from time to time constantly looking like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards, but I've been happier with my hair the way it is now than I have been in years. That to me is what's important.
Having the support and encouragement of my husband and kids, friends and online communities like Dreadlock Truth and the Dreadlocks forum on Ravelry mean it's been easier going than it might have been. It's much easier to shrug off comments of the naysayers (my Mum), and the compliments I've received have bolstered the gut feeling I originally had of this being the right thing to do.
I'll continue updating this, but I'll move on from once a week to once a month as the fluffy baby stage has largely subsided, and my hair has settled happily into it's loopy but more stable structure.
Cheers for watching this process - hopefully it's been helpful to anyone interested in the way fine, straight, caucasian hair takes to being back-combed and left to it's own devices.
