Enchanting woman with flowing red hair in a captivating portrait set against a dark background. A striking woman with vibrant red, wavy hair gazes directly at the viewer, her expression conveying both strength and mystery in a darkened setting.
A striking low-key portrait featuring a confident subject illuminated by dramatic directional lighting against a deep black background. Dressed in a bold red halter dress, the scene uses strong contrast and shadow to create an atmospheric, cinematic mood. The lighting sculpts the face and form, emphasizing expression, texture, and elegance while allowing mystery to remain in the darker portions of the frame. The rich red tones stand out powerfully against the darkness, creating a visual balance between strength and sophistication. This portrait explores the interplay of light and shadow in studio photography, capturing a timeless and dramatic aesthetic.

In a break from my normal type of Imagery, I spent a few days out in London trying out some street photography.

And eventually it took over her entire life, consuming her. She became addicted to the sadness, because sadness was all she knew. And finally, she became her depression.
VIEW LARGE PLEASE. and I really hope this looks well and isnt too dark or contrasty on your screen =/
This idea is the ever so lovely Bailey Kopp's! Its for the cover of the paper —the package being mental health. Sadly that package is being pushed till the next issue. it was really upsetting because i have been wanting a mental health issue for years! But i guess its for the best: no one had their stuff done so i mean at least we will do it right and not half ass it to get it done tomorrow. Gosh the title page for it is freaking amazing. and thank you so so so much for letting me do this bailey! I loved it.
Feel free to give me any feedback/constructive criticism. its all appreciated!
A full-sized statue of the legendary Sir Chaplin has been on loan from the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and calmly sits in a foyer of the historic Bradbury Building in Downtown Los Angeles. This was the first time my son came across such a life-like sculpture, so he was both intrigued and spooked by the stoic figure:)
Prints for this are available on my website here.

The spectacular landscape of Upper Teesdale looking over to Widdybank Fell from across the valley at High Hurth Edge. The whitewashed Widdybank Farm is to the right of the picture and the menacing crag of Cronkley Scar juts into the left of it. A canal runs through old, industrial buildings in Birmingham, England.
At its working peak, the BCN contained about 160 miles (257 km) of canals; today just over 100 miles (160 km) are navigable, and the majority of traffic is from tourist and residential narrowboats.
Was it an accident or intentional? Will we ever know?
It's a humorous picture. I borrowed the golf club because golf isn't one of my favorite sports.

The beauty of having a black background is that if you have any distracting elements in the photo, you can just paint them out with black in Photoshop. Lit with one hand held SB600 in a snoot in front of the flowers at about 5 o'clock, triggered by the pop up flash on my D90 in commander mode.. I always use manual mode on the strobe for these flower pics and adjust the levels until I like the way it looks.
Other plants and flowers that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my strobe lit plant set. In the description, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/...

This fine art black and white portrait explores the delicate tension between light and shadow, strength and fragility. The subject’s half-concealed expression and textured hand gesture create a raw, emotive portrait that leans into vulnerability while quietly radiating resilience.
The interplay of dramatic lighting and shadowplay draws the eye toward the subtle details — every freckle, crease, and imperfection telling its own story. By removing color, the photo emphasizes depth, mood, and authenticity, inviting viewers to pause and look closer.
This is not only a monochrome portrait but a piece of fine art photography meant to connect through emotion and storytelling.

O Wonder.....
I loved the land, so I belong to her in this life.
But in the next life, I'll be yours.
I'll born again as your endless waves.

Arguably the best view in Teesdale, this is looking north from Harker Hill. Strong winter sunshine on the landscape with the east end of of Middle Side above Middleton centre left, and part of Snaisgill centre right. Staight ahead is the Hudes Hope valley with Club Gill farm at the head of it standing out nicely. A dark grey sky as the overnight mist and fog lifts creates a dramatically lit scene. Boxing Day 2024.
There are moments when the body gives in before the spirit, when stillness becomes a language of its own. His eyes, sharp yet weary, hold a thousand untold stories—of resilience, of vulnerability, of the fragile pause between endurance and surrender. The floor cradles him, the world spins quietly above, and yet within those eyes burns an unyielding flame.
A fine art black and white child portrait that captures raw emotion through expressive eyes and soft tones. The photograph conveys both innocence and strength, inviting the viewer into a moment of stillness and reflection. This is a study in storytelling portrait photography, where light, detail, and emotion meet to create an intimate, human connection.
I aim for this image to speak beyond words – to spark curiosity, invite interpretation, and remind us of the depth within fleeting moments. Your thoughts and reflections are always valued.
As a brief but torrential shower late in the afternoon moved away, this extraordinarily vivid rainbow appeared, with its double adding to the display. The reversal of colours in the secondary rainbow - a key feature of them, is clearly visible

The man’s outline is sharply defined against the vivid backdrop, his footprints trailing behind him in the damp sand. The dramatic lighting accentuates the texture of the waves, the edge of the waterline, and the rugged outline of distant dunes, creating a powerful, cinematic moment of solitary wanderlust at day’s end.

Portrait of Sangeeta in her dining room. Sometimes you don't need a full studio and strobes - this was done with a single bounce flash while sitting at the dining table.
This is an image I took when I was doing the still photography on a short film called WUSS on IMDB www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=6ET6ibK...
Every image tells a story, but some images define a story. This portrait was chosen as the official poster image for the short film WUSS, capturing the essence of its tone and emotion. The expression in his eyes, the subtle tension in his expression/posture, and the cinematic lighting all contribute to a visual that speaks before a single word is spoken.
This image is not just a still, it’s a moment, a feeling, a preview of a larger narrative. Can a single frame capture the weight of a film? This one tries.
This past weekend I was fortunate enough to attend a workshop put on by the Arizona Professional Photographer's Association at the Canyon Creek Ranch in Arizona. There were a series of workshops put on to teach us various techniques for lighting in different scenarios using all different methods of providing light. This workshop provided the models, the settings and the instructors to show us appropriate lighting for different scenarios.
This shot was from a lesson put on by one of the instructors, Bob Coates, who was demonstrating lighting using continuous LED lights and modifiers which were provided by Westcott Lighting. The model's name is Jerry Thomas. The advantages of LED lighting are that you see what you're getting in real time. The disadvantages are that the lights are not as strong as regular flashes, so you end up using higher iso's, but with today's camera sensors, higher ISO's are not so much of a problem as they used to be. In this shot a large softbox with a grid was positioned at camera left and above the model, but the participants could see what the lighting results were before taking the shot. I used NIK software's Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert my image to black and white.
Other images that I took during the day long workshop at Canyon Creek Ranch are in my Canyon Creek Ranch Album.
