Dramatic Light and a sinister dark sky as a heavy squall moves down the dale to Barnard Castle, Teesdale, during Storm Atiyah, 8 December 2019. Taken from the roadside opposite Egglestone Abbey, looking upstream over the River Tees towards Startforth

Few photos can convey not only the light and the sound, but also the physical sensation of a storm.

That night in Liguria, we felt it: a double strike right in front of us, the sea as a mirror, the sky’s electricity making our hair rise.

A moment of pure intensity, where lightning became both spectacle and warning.

“Sorceress and Dragon” conjures a vision of power and mystery beneath the full moon. A woman in flowing black stands amidst wildflowers and shadowed trees, her presence commanding yet graceful. At her side, a dragon of fire and flame emerges from the forest, its scales glowing with molten light, its eyes alive with ancient knowledge. Together, they embody the eternal bond between mortal will and elemental force—a covenant of magic, nature, and myth. The moon crowns the scene with silver radiance, casting the forest into a stage where sorcery and legend entwine.

She stands where the forest breaks,

moonlight threading her hair with silver,

black silk flowing like a river of night.

From the trees, fire answers—

a dragon born of ember and breath,

its scales a hymn of molten flame.

They do not face each other as strangers,

but as halves of a covenant:

her hand the spell,

its roar the echo,

their bond a circle older than stars.

The flowers bow in silence,

the forest holds its breath,

and the moon, eternal witness,

writes their names in light.

Sorceress and dragon—

not mistress and beast,

but one story,

told in fire and shadow,

sung in the language of eternity.

The sun breaks through a storm, creating a dramatic rainbow over Vik, a Norwegian town along Sognefjord, the largest fjord in Norway and the second longest in the world.

A striking low-key portrait featuring a confident subject illuminated by dramatic directional lighting against a deep black background. Dressed in a bold red halter dress, the scene uses strong contrast and shadow to create an atmospheric, cinematic mood. The lighting sculpts the face and form, emphasizing expression, texture, and elegance while allowing mystery to remain in the darker portions of the frame. The rich red tones stand out powerfully against the darkness, creating a visual balance between strength and sophistication. This portrait explores the interplay of light and shadow in studio photography, capturing a timeless and dramatic aesthetic.

Seated in a chamber of opulence, she commands the gaze with an emerald gown that cascades like living flame. Draped fabric and jeweled embellishments crown her form, while the cape-like shoulders evoke both regality and myth. The dim glow of the lamp, the green walls, and the red roses at her side create a tableau of contrast—luxury and intimacy, shadow and brilliance. Her bold makeup and crimson lips sharpen the drama, transforming the room into a stage where elegance becomes power, and presence becomes legend.

“Emerald Throne”

She does not sit—

she reigns,

the chair beneath her

a throne carved from shadow and velvet breath.

Her gown is a river of green fire,

draped and jeweled,

a garment that remembers

the forests of myth,

the crowns of forgotten queens.

The roses lean toward her,

as if summoned,

their crimson mouths

confessing devotion in silence.

The lamp burns low,

but her presence is the brighter flame—

a sovereign of dusk,

a keeper of thresholds,

a myth written in emerald and blood-red light.

And we, who behold her,

are not mere witnesses,

but pilgrims at her altar,

gathering the fragments of her radiance

to carry into our own darkened rooms.

On a night when it was so clouded over, there wasn't a chance for a sunset...was there?

And then a small window opened...the sun made a white hot brief appearance...and a few minutes

later, after the sun quickly disappeared, the skies began to develop a faint red appearance. As

I watched in disbelief, it grew brighter and more red...until it was a blazing road that glowed.

Incredible. Just when think there's no chance...something great happens. Patience pays off.

This idea is the ever so lovely Bailey Kopp's! Its for the cover of the paper —the package being mental health. Sadly that package is being pushed till the next issue. it was really upsetting because i have been wanting a mental health issue for years! But i guess its for the best: no one had their stuff done so i mean at least we will do it right and not half ass it to get it done tomorrow. Gosh the title page for it is freaking amazing. and thank you so so so much for letting me do this bailey! I loved it.

Feel free to give me any feedback/constructive criticism. its all appreciated!

A full-sized statue of the legendary Sir Chaplin has been on loan from the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and calmly sits in a foyer of the historic Bradbury Building in Downtown Los Angeles. This was the first time my son came across such a life-like sculpture, so he was both intrigued and spooked by the stoic figure:)

The beauty of having a black background is that if you have any distracting elements in the photo, you can just paint them out with black in Photoshop. Lit with one hand held SB600 in a snoot in front of the flowers at about 5 o'clock, triggered by the pop up flash on my D90 in commander mode.. I always use manual mode on the strobe for these flower pics and adjust the levels until I like the way it looks.

Other plants and flowers that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my strobe lit plant set. In the description, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157628079460544/...

This fine art black and white portrait explores the delicate tension between light and shadow, strength and fragility. The subject’s half-concealed expression and textured hand gesture create a raw, emotive portrait that leans into vulnerability while quietly radiating resilience.

The interplay of dramatic lighting and shadowplay draws the eye toward the subtle details — every freckle, crease, and imperfection telling its own story. By removing color, the photo emphasizes depth, mood, and authenticity, inviting viewers to pause and look closer.

This is not only a monochrome portrait but a piece of fine art photography meant to connect through emotion and storytelling.

There are moments when the body gives in before the spirit, when stillness becomes a language of its own. His eyes, sharp yet weary, hold a thousand untold stories—of resilience, of vulnerability, of the fragile pause between endurance and surrender. The floor cradles him, the world spins quietly above, and yet within those eyes burns an unyielding flame.

A fine art black and white child portrait that captures raw emotion through expressive eyes and soft tones. The photograph conveys both innocence and strength, inviting the viewer into a moment of stillness and reflection. This is a study in storytelling portrait photography, where light, detail, and emotion meet to create an intimate, human connection.

I aim for this image to speak beyond words – to spark curiosity, invite interpretation, and remind us of the depth within fleeting moments. Your thoughts and reflections are always valued.
