I caught a 5:30 AM flight from Seattle to Houston. I was feeling sorry for myself because I had to be at SeaTac at 4:30 for the 5:30 flight. That meant I had to leave Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island at 2:30 AM. Of course, that meant no sleep the night before.
It was eerie driving across Deception Pass at that hour - no cars and a wispy ground fog filling the valleys. I really started to enjoy the drive. It was so different in the dark and at that very early hour. Getting through Seattle was easy and that was a pleasant change.
The first gray light of dawn happened sometime while I was going through security. Another nice surprise - security was not a problem, no lines and pleasant exchanges.
I watched the dim gray light slowly brighten while I sat at the gate. I could see a light ground fog drifting over the airport as dawn intensified. The sky changed from black to deep ink blue.
We boarded and taxied to the end of the runway, again, without any delay. As the colors of the day started to appear, I could tell there was a high cirrus layer but it looked clear above the lacey ground fog.
With a roar, we were hurtling down the runway. By now, I could see lights blinking on in the homes - Seattle was waking up. We took off to the North and were soon banking to the right to turn back to the Southeast.
As we climbed, I could see the orange of the sun begin to near the rapidly dropping horizon. I looked to the right and Mount Rainier was quickly approaching as we accelerated to the Southeast. I grabbed my camera bag from under the seat and as soon as I pulled my camera out and looked through the viewfinder, the first direct rays from the sun flooded across western Washington and spot-lighted Rainier.
I was mesmerized. It somehow felt primitive, like I was witnessing the first light to ever fall on Rainier.
It is funny, I will always treasure and never forget that early morning that I was dreading. I doubt that I will ever learn...

The briefest of bright intervals highlights autumn tints starting to form on the riverbanks in this view of the River Tees, looking upstream from Demesnes Mill at Barnard Castle, Teesdale under a menacing dark sky.

This image captures a woman exuding elegance and sophistication against a dark, vertical-striped background. Her attire is a classic black dress with an off-the-shoulder neckline, complemented by her red lipstick, which adds a pop of color to the otherwise monochromatic setting.

The lingering light from a beautiful sunset in the Sierra foothills a couple of weeks ago. I MUCH prefer little m's shot of this tree and sunset, which included a lot more of this huge oak in the frame.
This photo was shot along the river side, a boat has just past and these are the wave splashing on the land and rocks.
Inside the Rundetårn (Round Tower) in Copenhagen, which I was climbing to get a nice overview image of the city from on high. This is a 17th-century tower built as an astronomical observatory in central Copenhagen. What you are seeing here is part of an "equestrian staircase" or corridor leading to the top, which has 7 1/2 turns. Frankly, it was a blast to climb. The top affords an awesome 360 degree view of the city!

Manakha is located in the Haraz mountains, 85 kms (a good 2-hour drive) from Sana'a. It is located at 2300 meters above sea. As far as you can see there's mountains, smaller ones, bigger ones, and about 90 percent of these mountains are covered with terraces for agriculture. Not all of them are used anymore, because lots of locals have moved to the capital and there's just not enough people left to work all the fields. On every hilltop or big rock a town was built, for protection against enemies in the past, incredible constructions, it is mind-boggling how they managed to build them all ... and then : the fields and hillsides are so green, it seems unreal, as if it was painted on.
This photo was taken during sunset and I was rather lucky to get some clouds as the sky in Yemen tends to be just blue and blue.

This image captures the facade of a historic building at night, illuminated by artificial lighting. The building features a yellow upper section and a white lower section, with multiple windows arranged in a grid pattern. The most striking element is the large shadow cast on the building's wall, likely from a nearby statue or structure, adding a dramatic and mysterious effect to the scene. The contrast between the lit and shadowed areas highlights the architectural details and textures of the building, making it an intriguing subject for photography.
I took this photo today at Concours Hippique in Wehl the Netherlands. There were lots of horses and people.
FR Le soleil éclate au-dessus des nuages comme une étoile suspendue. En dessous, l’enseigne du métro veille, humble et familière, gardienne des départs et des retrouvailles. À Paris, même les chemins souterrains commencent par un peu de ciel.
EN The sun bursts above the clouds like a suspended star. Below, the metro sign stands quietly, a familiar guardian of departures and reunions. In Paris, even underground journeys begin with a touch of sky.
Sometimes emotion doesn’t need motion, it lingers, still and steady, in the quiet gaze of a single moment. This portrait captures the calm defiance that lives behind the eyes, the kind that doesn’t shout or break, but holds its ground softly, like light against shadow.
Shot as part of my ongoing fine art portrait series, this image explores resilience, identity, and inner stillness through minimalism and tone. The texture of light, the grain of the skin, the shadow that breathes around the form, together they create not just a photograph, but a conversation between strength and silence.

As the sky starts to clear a patch of strong sunshine lights up a snow covered Stang against a dark sky background.
Evening descent from the mountains. The sun is already hiding behind the ridges, throwing the valley into shadow — but the majestic peak still basks in golden light. A fleeting, magical moment between day and night.
A striking woman with long, flowing brown hair stands as if caught mid‑motion, each strand fanning outward in stylized waves. Her deep V‑neck black attire gleams under soft light, framing her with both allure and strength. The neutral, textured backdrop draws the eye to her commanding presence, while the dramatic hair and glossy fabric create a portrait that feels both modern and timeless — a fusion of fashion, power, and artistry.
"She Stands Where the Air Remembers"
The air does not pass her by —
it bends,
curling into her hair like a lover’s hand,
lifting each strand into a crown of motion.
Her dress is night poured into shape,
black as the pause before a confession,
its sheen catching the light
like a secret she allows you to almost hear.
The backdrop is nothing,
and so it becomes everything —
a canvas for the gravity she carries,
for the way her presence
turns stillness into a kind of wind.
She does not pose.
She occupies.
Her gaze is not an invitation,
but a recognition —
as if she has seen you before,
in another life,
and remembers exactly who you were.
In this frame,
she is not a subject to be captured.
She is the force that holds the image together,
the reason the air moves,
the reason the light stays.

Member of the Nature’s Spirit
Good Stewards of Nature
In the background is the steam ship 'Sir Walter Scott' on which we were about to travel - and yes, it did rain!
In a chamber of deep green walls and velvet drapery, she emerges as both muse and monarch. Her satin gown, plunging and adorned with a jeweled brooch, gleams like a living emerald against the warmth of the lamp’s glow. Red hair cascades in waves, catching the light like fire braided with silk. The dangling earrings, the bold lips, the gaze that pierces through shadow—all conspire to create a portrait of timeless glamour. This is not merely fashion, but a ritual of presence: a sovereign enthroned in light and shadow, where elegance becomes myth.
“The Lady of Velvet Shadows”
She is not seated—
she is enthroned,
the lamp’s warm fire
a crown upon her hair of flame.
Her gown is a river of emerald night,
gathered at the heart
by a jewel that remembers
the weight of kingdoms.
The curtains lean closer,
the walls hold their breath,
even the roses in their vase
seem to bow toward her silence.
Her gaze is not invitation,
but decree—
a sovereign’s command
wrapped in the softness of satin.
And we, who linger in her light,
are pilgrims of her presence,
carrying away fragments of emerald and fire
to kindle our own shadows
with her remembered radiance.
In a chamber of velvet shadows and golden lamplight, she sits poised at her desk, a vision of aristocratic grace. Her strapless gown, crimson embroidered with intricate patterns, cascades into folds of satin where a blue accent gleams like twilight caught in fabric. Her hair, swept into an elegant updo, frames a face lit by quiet resolve and timeless beauty. Around her, the room whispers of history—green curtains, framed photographs, and a cityscape beyond the window. This is not merely a portrait, but a tableau of sovereignty and memory, where fashion, architecture, and presence converge into legend.
“The Lady of Crimson and Sapphire”
She leans upon the desk of memory,
her gown a river of fire
crossed by a single ribbon of twilight blue.
The lamp burns low,
but her presence is the brighter flame,
casting shadows that bow
to the sovereignty of her silence.
Photographs murmur on the desk,
ghosts of lineage and legacy,
while beyond the window
the city exhales its dusk.
She is not merely adorned—
she is enthroned,
her posture a decree,
her gaze a covenant.
In her stillness,
time itself bends,
and we, who behold her,
become pilgrims of her radiance,
carrying away fragments of crimson and sapphire
to kindle our own darkened rooms.
Hi flickr!
It's been awhile! The move went well, I'll post a few pictures in the comments of Garry and me I took sometime last week. I'm loving my life here so far...of course I could use a few more friends and a job but I know those things will come with time. For now I'm happy to have Garry and enjoy the simple things in life :)
I actually wasn't planning on doing a picture anytime soon...the apartment isn't that big and I still don't know the layout of the land very well here. But I signed into flickr this evening for the first time in awhile and saw a request from getty images and I also got an email from Brooke Shaden...both of which inspired me to think of SOMETHING.
And it just began with the make up and took off from there. I'm actually quite pleased with how this one turned out...which is rare lol especially when I do something so on the whim as this.
I'll probably be doing more sometime soon...perhaps something that features Garry and myself? We'll see...for now, enjoy our quarky silliness.
